They are around, but can't tell if it's more then the norm or not really, I do think it has an appeal to players with hearing impairment as sound isn't a crucial factor in this game, and practically everything is in text. My hope is that Eve will keep on this road and not fall prey to 'Only the voice/sound matters'. Note this does not mean screw sound, advancing sound is important for most players after all

My hearing's pretty bad, it's okay in day to day communications thanks to my hearing-aids, but for TS and such it fails horribly (also phones and such are a problem)
However listening is very exhaustive, hence I enjoy subtitles, makes me enjoy the movie/trailer/whatever without feeling tired afterwards.

Reminds me of when I did DJ stuff in Second Life, I would put youtube lyrics videos on the media player so some deaf friends could "listen" to the music with us. Was quite popular for awhile.

Turning on captions made that video hilarious for sure, right from the start
