Most wanted PVP pilot skills?

I'm wanting to start a new pilot with a focus on pvp.

What race/weapons/ships (logi, t3, t2HACs, etc) is most wanted?

Short answer: "Depends" and "Everything."

Long Answer: Crawl before you walk, walk before you run.

As a budding PvP pilot you are going to want to start as a "hero tackler" or "Ewar meatshield" for more experienced groups of pilots.
You will die very often in these roles... but they are cheap, teach you about combat (what you will die quickly and slowly against, what you can hold and not hold, etc), and get you used to the "predator" mentality that PvPers exhibit.

All you need to fulfill these roles are a Tech 1 frigate, a Microwarpdrive, a Warp Disruptor/Scrambler (or ECM, Dampener, Tracking Disrutpror if you are doing the Ewar path), and a Damage Control.

As you get better, both character and player-wise, and become closer in sync with the people you fly with... you will find a niche that you are good at or prefer.

It depends where you fly and who you fly with.

Thanks for the info ShahFluffers! I'll look into that!

J'Poll, I don't fly with anyone atm. I'll be starting fresh with the NPC corp and no ties to a pvp corp atm. That's why I was wondering what race to focus my attention on.

Well, if you are solo...then it really doesn't matter as you can pick what ever you want.P

Some good tips so far, for race I'd definitely recommend Gallente. You'll most likely be starting out pvping in frigates and for me Gallente has the best line up.

3 great combat frigs in the incursus, atron and tristan and probably the most effective tech1 ewar frig, the maulus.

I had this experience recently, story time with the griffin is not fun!

Maulus is awesome as well. I need to remember to buy some more, there's a solo fit I want to mess around with.

Apart from the skills listed here, the main thing you need is a good attitude. Any group that doesn't want you in fleet because you're missing SP is a group to avoid.

Grrr.

It'll help if you have some idea what kind of PvP you want.

Some examples:
Highsec
  • Consentual fights (RvB)
  • Suicide ganking
  • Wardecs

Lowsec
  • FW for profit
  • FW for fun
  • FW for territory control
  • Moon control
  • Roams for fun
  • Piracy for profit

Null-sec
  • Territory control
  • Roams for fun
  • Piracy for profit

Worm-hole
  • Territory control
  • Roams for fun
  • Piracy for profit

And what fleet-size do you think you prefer? 2? 5? 10? 25? 50? 500+?
Do you want tight, scheduled corp/alliance-only fleets, more flexible ones or completely open pick-up fleets?

Good list. But 'Piracy for profit'?

Yea no.

Gallente/Hybrid is a very good place to start, because as has been mentioned - they have no weak ships in their roster.

And working on your general gunnery support skills will allow you to move into Amarr/Lazors and Minmatar/Projectiles very quickly.

Starting with Drones or Missiles limits the viable hulls you can use effectively as you start off.

Get out there sooner than later, even if it's solo and you die alot.

I'd put money on the experienced Eve player with a toon that has 5 million SP over someone brand new that bought a 100 million SP toon off the character bazaar. Game mechanics > Skillpoints.

I think people put too much on SP's. Sure it's a crutch, if you and your opponent are flying identical fits.

Skillswise, no matter what you do, the powergrid/CPU skills are always good, Navigation skills, shield, armor.

Try to stick to one ship if you can, like for example small hybrid turrets and Gallente Frigate and Gallente Destroyers. Work on all those little gunnery skills, get them all to 3 before getting them all to 4, etc. The first one I would rush would be getting T2 blasters and rails; but don't wait for that to be done.

The ISIS screen is a great way to visualize it too.

Undocking lvl 1 - that's most wanted pvp pilot skill. Everything else is just optional :)

Still good when you are with a group.

As one of my favorite FCs calls it....Overview Tanking.

If you have a fleet of 100 Pods with 5 more ships, that means there are likely 100 extra things on the enemy's overview that will clutter it up.

Though it usually works even better when you just grab a noob-ship, as people can have pods disabled but the noobship will be classed as a frigate and thus shows.

I've had fun with solo maulus pvp in fw. Tried it in fleet but not had a chance to test it's effectiveness in that environment. Even when flying with one other ship in a plex most think twice before warping in.

Tristan is awesome with decent drone skills which incidentally I'd recommend for maulus with it's ability to field four drones. Not done much with the incursus except get killed by a fire tail.

Just be careful with the maulus nit to hang around after a kill because someone will come for you in a counter - fit and you'll likely die.

Learn to die without complaint and with a focus on improvement. The skills will come but unless you develop the right attitude you are not going to get anywhere other than blobsville.
