I am interested on peoples thoughts about using a Higgs Anchor on a Viator in Hi-Sec.

The session change timer at the gate is usually a quarter of the way through by the time I land and hit warp. By the time the session change timer has ended, I am travelling at about 18.000 km h.

Can you be targeted while the session change timer is active?

Even if you can be. Does the fact that my ship appears partially cloaked while I am travelling at over 2000 km h within 5 seconds of landing mean i can't be targeted?

You can't be targeted while in warp, you also can't be targeted with your cloak engaged, you can't activate your cloak while locked so as long as you are able to activate the cloak you are safe, ignore the animations, they don't matter.

The Session Change Timer does exactly what the name suggests, nothing more: it's the time (10 seconds) before you can either 1) jump through a stargate 2) jump with a jump dirve 3) dock in (or undock from) a station. It has no effect on anything else, such as other dudes targeting you.

Don't consider the cloaking effect: it's just graphics. You decloak the second you do anything after jumping through a stargate. After that, you're fully cloaked when your cloak is on and fully decloaked when it's off, regardless of the animation.

A Viator with a covops cloak and nothing else fitted is already 99% safe in highsec.

You just have to:
. Use insta-docks and insta-undocks at stations (makes you 100% safe while docking and undocking)
. Always activate cloak right after you hit 'warp', at every gate

The only 2 things that can give people a chance to kill you at a gate are:
1) You're unlucky and appear within 2.000m of something after jumping in - because you cannot cloak immediately
2) Somebody in a fast ship manages to uncloak you before you enter warp, by getting within 2.000m of you

To mitigate those two (rather small, tbh) risks, you have to be:
- Agile, so you get into warp faster and also maneuver better in the pre-warp phase
- Quick, so you can swiftly pull range from any object that is preventing you from cloaking

Higgs Anchor improves your agility, but greatly reduces your speed, so it's not a good idea.

Fit your Viator with a covops cloak, an mwd, an inertia stab or nanofiber, a warp stab (or two) just in case, and the rest of tank mods just in case. Use rigs for cargo (if you need it) or warp speed (if you're impatient like me - can shave minutes off of a long route).

Great advice from both of you, thanks for that. I'll definitely be going with Gully Alex Foyle's fit.

Personal preference: I like to put low friction nozzle joints in the rig slots and then mix and match the lows between nanofibers and cargo expanders. And since they all have the extra high slot now, throw a probe launcher on there. If need be, you can always try to scan down a wormhole in a last ditch effort to escape a system.
