This is kind of a specific request but maybe I can get some new minds on it rather than just my own. I have a friend that is fairly new to eve, about 4 months old and has the obsession with big shiney things despite the lack of skills to use them well.

He got himself an oracle to help me dps in anomalies but I am having trouble with a good balance between dps and some buffer tank (cause new wave of anomalies loooove to target the newbie for some reason). Anyone have some good pulse/beam fits they could share? He prefers to use beams so he doesn't have to go anywhere to smack the rats around, but I think with the right mods he could make pulses do the same.

I'm assuming he doesn't have the skills for T2 large pulses. That's a shame, because T2 mega-pulse with Scorch crystals will give excellent damage out to 50km+ (depending on skills). Even using T1 guns, pulses would probably work better due to their better tracking for smaller targets. With low skills, the tracking difference is going to make a big difference in dps on cruiser-sized targets.

Get him a tracking computer with both a range and tracking script for one of his mid-slots. He can put cap rechargers in the other mid-slots to help free up low slots for tank.

For his low slots I'd use a medium repper, two specific hardeners depending on what you're fighting, and a couple heat sinks. If tank is still a big problem, you could swap one heat sink for a 1600mm plate (or the biggest he can squeeze on with skills).

Also, a rig for repair amount (Auxilliary Nano Pump I think) and some Trimarks will help his buffer tank immensely. Medium rigs are relatively cheap.

I've run the Oracle paired with a Talos in several L4s and the combo is amazingly good for the price.

Thats a solid idea except for the part where the armor reps eat up capacitor, so he wouldn't be able to run the rep and the guns effectively, that is the main reason I had him shield tanking for now. I may see if I can get him ccc rigs to offset the cap use of the rep and see how that goes. Thanks for the input.

Oh no problem, I am at work myself so I can't use EFT (stupid state computers and their restrictions on flash drives and downloads). I appreciate it.

As one of the people who fund your salary, please do not think it too rude of me when I say "What the **** are you doing, get back to work you big drain of public funds" Lol

I'm in a call center. Kind of easy to browse forums and talk to people asking generic questions so I don't feel like I'm waisting tax dollars :P

Sent, Azure.

I used to read a book a day when I did work like that.

I put a modest shield tank on my alt's Oracle (and by modest, I mean the mid slots are EM + Invuln + AB), remote rep that boat. Lasts long enough to warp out if needed. Otherwise just rely on the overwhelming firepower to blast through any NPCs.

That is pretty much what we are doing now. It works okay he just freaks out occasionally when most of the new wave targets him, but he warps out easily enough. Most of his panic involves the first time he tried to help me with anomalies in his noob maller, and the new wave spawned on top of him and two volleyed him. He has been paranoid ever since :P

It's a little known fact that propping up game playing is the real reason we have call centers. Next time you pod this guy, take a moment of silence to thank his employer for their fine contribution to the game.

Have him use beams. In his lows have him use 3 heat sinks and then 3 resists, fit a large RR in your highs so if he grabs aggro instead of you, you can support him.

Im running a tengu so not going to give up a launcher slot for it unless I rebuild it. I'll just have him warp out if he gets to much aggro that he can't passive shield tank it. I'll keep tweaking this till we get something comfy.

Can he use t2 beams? If so, he can just snipe from distance. By the time npc's get to their 40km range of him, you both can kill them off. Better than pulses and warping in and out anyway.

Not T2 beams yet, but he would have to be at pretty far range. Gurista rats like to fire torps/cruise/heavies that reach out and touch you at decent ranges and he certainly doesn't have a tiny sig radius to tank them :P

Reminds me of my old job as a Lifty/EMT at a ski area in the summer. On stormy days I'd finish my BotD by lunch, and on the busiest days I'd only finish on the ride down.
