Hey all

I know its a bit of a cop out in MMO's looking for low commitment, but I'd like to get into PvP of some sort... have heard about FW and took a look around Black rise last night but couldn't see much action, is FW always like this?

Also I've heard about RvB... is this an Anti Pirate thing? If so.. is it fun?

Also.. Piracy.. not adverse to the idea but how do Pirates support and themselves?

Any answers would be appreciated!

RvB is probably your best option for fun PVP with low commitment.

It's two alliances permanently at war with each other in highsec, meaning they can freely shoot eachother but still live in highsec (where it's much easier to buy stuff, for example).

Never tried it, but everybody says it's fun if you enjoy no-frills combat in cheap ships.

There's lots of pew pew to be had in FW as well, but I think a bit less 'always on' than RvB. Also, FW PVP Corps (same as Pirate Corps) on average take PVP a bit more seriously than RvB. Most groups are quite laid back, but at the same time they strive to get better at PVP, achieve goals (FW system control, POS/PoCo control or the ability to succesfully fight well-organized opponents) and frown on people being too derpy (losing ships in excessively silly ways).

Doesn't mean you have to be online 23/7 in a good FW or Pirate Corp, just means that PVP is less carefree 'let's just blow stuff up or die trying' than RvB. So it depends on what style you prefer.

Actually, regarding TIME commitment, I'm sure most corps will be happy to have you if you're a nice dude, even if you just log in once or twice a week, as long as you're not just doing stuff on your own 100% of the time.

Regarding ISK, FW is the best of the 3 options for easy ISK-making.

Thanks for the response there Gully

At present I'm only in frigates and destroyers(?) But plan on levelling up all of the skill for them before progressing beyond Cruisers as it strikes me that either you skill up properly rather than jumping into the biggest thing you can lay your hands on if you want to pvp (from what people have told me and what I have read).

So I guess if I joined RVB my only contribution would be perhaps a throw-away scout/EW type?

Frigs and Dessies are very common in the FW environment. Many low skilled players get their feet wet by fitting out many variations of frigates to become comfortable finding their niche. I would suggest joining a player owned corporation, learn from the regular fleets offered, and hone your skills. I have no experience in RvB, so I cannot offer anything constructive, but I do hear many new players join RvB for the same experience (minus low sec aspect). I prefer FW because low sec best sec.

good luck!

You should move to the area covered by this map, there are always ships in space here. FW is a great place for low-commitment EvE because you get paid in LP while you PvP so you don't need to spend much time on a dedicated PvE grind to stay solvent. FW also involves plenty of piracy because the warzone is low-sec and it's full of neutrals to shoot.

Feel free to shoot me a mail if you want to come live in the warzone proper, I'm all about the low-commitment PvP so if you want I can show you how to get your hangar set up in a way to enable that sort of play style.
