When is it calculated if/how well you hit?

Ok, here's a question I had the other day that I don't think I've ever seen answered. When does the game calculate if you hit your target and how well you hit them? This isn't so much of an issue for turrets, but I was thinking more in terms of missiles. Are they calculated when you launch them or when they hit?

The main example I can think of, and what brought it to mind, is using a TP but (because of a previous cycle) turning it on while the missiles are halfway to their destination.

This isn't a huge deal one way or another, but I was curious if anyone had any hard info about how it works.

Not having any facts but rather pure deduction; Because many things can influence that missile (target rushing out of range, smart bombs, defenders etc etc) I'm going to assume that all the damage calcs are done on actual impact.

It's calculated when they hit, this also goes for bombs etc. Otherwise would be just... stupid.

So, yes, you actually want to TP the target right before the missile hits.

Ok, thanks. That's what I wanted to make sure of. I was fairly sure it'd be on impact, instead of on launch, but I thought it'd be worth asking.

well think about that: drake blob shoots 1k missiles at the primary, it would be just stupid to let the server calculate the dmg before the missiles even hit, half of them might only reach the target when it has gone down already.

but as i think about it... i might just have found the solution to all lag problems, you just dont know how ccp programs their stuff :D

I proven it with practice.

Even last second TP can save your precious volley. So it's never late to paint laser lock on them.

Calculations are somewhere in between impact and your perception of impact. They are done when you receive text damage notification. In major FPS online shooters, server data and shooter/victim client data may be off. It is handled differently, shot aversion and delayed death - are two extremes.
