Hurricane vs Stratios

I am curious if a Hurricane (or the fleet issue) can catch and kill a Stratios.

There a war target that is flying around solo in a Stratios killing my corpmates. I don't know if he would try to engage a battlecruiser without backup, but I was thinking of running missions in a PvP fit Hurricane hoping to give him a fight.

He will probably expect a mission fit ship.
Based on a fit from a killmail, he will probably try to use a long point (he had faction warp disrupt) and use cap warfare.

The major problem I see is being able to scram, web, and close in to optimal AC range against an faster ship, and without using all that expensive faction/deadspace stuff he has. Even if I use artillery and fight from range, I don't know how I can get close enough to scram.

Obviously the solution is to have a friend somewhere nearby to warp in with a quicker ship during the fight to tackle him, unfortunately I just joined this corp yesterday and they seem risk adverse, like most hisec corps, but I might find someone. Regardless, I am still forced to consider a totally solo option, especially considering this is EVE, I don't trust anyone to come to my rescue.

I'm also trying to work out a fit, I don't really see how to fit a PVP Hurricane with shields, and armour tank seems to be a little weak in everything I've tried or seen on battleclinic. Perhaps partly because my armour skills have been a bit neglected.

First off, you should realize he can read this just like the rest of us, also its pretty apparent that you are in the wrong corp.

You are correct, if he is the least bit competent you wont be able to catch him in the mission running scenario. The exception may be if you know he is hunting you, just wait at the warp in point and don't actually do the mission. This will give you control of the engagement, unless for some reason he has the foresight to warp in at distance.

Alternatively have one or some of the risk adverse get in brick tanked procurers (buy them for them if you have to) and start mining, that's all the trap you really need unless the guy really knows what he is doing. With the drones, they can actually help you.

Pretty sure you will be very hard pressed to catch a Stratios in any BC, they are just too slow.

If you get yourself some HG Snakes (and he does not) then it might be doable.

Figured it unlikely that any given person is regularly reading this forum thoroughly enough to find this thread.

Nothing particularly wrong with this corp, it does what a hisec corp does. But I also have PVP alt in RvB where I am learning that side of the game. This combination works for me at this time.

Pretty much like a figured then. The next best ship I could fight with is a Stabber FI. I figure it would catch the Stratios only to be killed.

the best thing is to spend your time figuring that he DOES read the forums... and post accordingly with that in mind. you can check the killboards and catch a good idea of his likely fit. being a cloaky, yes you are being hunted. yes there is going to be an unmarked following you around. do your homework. flying a big ship that you doubt your ability to fit is not the solution. you're just providing mail. if he likes cat'n mouse.. get a few buddies and cat'n mouse..

Fit a MJD. If he wants to kill you he will need to be in scram range to hold you down.

If the stratios is properly fit it will outlast you while the drones rip you apart.

you will need a fleet hurricane with 2x medium neuts and good buffer or active tank (asb)

I recommend the Cyclone instead.

Armour buffer the cane and fit 2xwebs and a scram. Use the mission gates to force him to land right on top of u. If he is indeed kite fit he will melt. Even if he is brawl fit u should win. Make sure u carry warriors and set them on his drones forcing him to recall/redeploy which will put a dent in his dps. U will need to clear out the first mission room pocket tho or the rats will whittle ur buffer down. Sure BC arnt as superior these days as they used to be but an armour cane is still a monster as a close range brawler. As mentioned a Fleet Issue will be even more capable as can bring more neuts, as an added bonus u are then also baiting him with the possibility of a faction bc kill. I'm assuming u can t2 fit the cane and have the bc skill to 5. If not then use something else u have the proper skills to fly. However your idea of tricking him into fighting u on your own terms is the ideal tactic. Just beware he may have his own tricks to like a neutral logi alt or 2.

If hes brawly, and remotly decently fit, he will kill a normal armor cane (fits for both ships should be quite similar). A fleet cane would be more appropiate.

If he's using cap warfare that puts him at 14km -16km.

At that range it should be fairly easy to overheat a MWD and scram him if you use a shield buffer fit nano-cane. The issue is he probably would do more DPS (about 800 compared to your 600) and could potentially have more tank (active with booster) than you - not to mention he is more likely to pick the engagement range to start with than you.

To win solo you'd more or less be reliant on him making an error. Definately worth a try though.

The Strength of the Stratios is its Drones, particularly heavy drones (Geckos), AC hurricanes can pop those quick fast and in a hurry and the stratios can only carry one flight of them at a time. Use an Active armor fit with MWD to be able to catch him, the Cain is not that much slower than the Stratios so timely use of overheating will get him into web/scram range also using SW drones to close should be enough, I would also reccomend NOS' not neuts once you get in close so you can keep the web/scrams going while he is neuting you (remember to stagger them), deciding whether to go dual web or one web with a cap booster is the hard decision, one web with a cap booster means it will be harder to keep him tackled (SW drones can help with this) but without the booster you will likely lose cap and therefore tackle.

I would use SW drones to to help catch him then once he is tackled pop his drones (if you pop them before tackling he will likely run) use nos's and boosters to counter his neuts use EMP ammo against his drones/shield (tracking/EM Hole) then switch to Hail for his armor, remember to recall SW drones to prevent him from killing with warriors or hobs (SW drones are VERY fragile and should only be out when neccesary). If he does not have a scram in addition to his long point you should be able to keep him in scram range just with SW drones and pulsing your MWD, you can use your web to kill his drones. If you get into trouble burn away from him and target his drones once they are dead he cant really hurt you. Also alway remember to overheat/pulse your AAR once his drones are dead you should be able to reload it safely for cap efficiency.

This is all assuming its just you VS him, most wardeckers in my experience do their best to blob so i would honestly reccomend not engaging solo, at least with anything you are not willing to lose.

Run a cane w/ 2 neuts, autos, web, scram and AB.

Take a mission that has a gate. Jump the gate and don't move when you come out of warp. Drop your drones and wait for him. If he takes the gate - you should be able to web/scram/neut him before he can get out of range. Sitting on the beacon w/ drones out should keep him uncloaked. Feel free to kick out a few cans of ammo while you wait for him to help keep him uncloaked.

With web and scram on him, hit approach, use AB as necessary. Neut and pound away with those auto cannons.

If you have him immobilized or find you can keep up with him - then go to work taking out his drones. This is especially a good idea if he drops gekos on you. They take up a lot of drone bay, so killing them really gimps his dps.

Once his drones are gone you can slowly kill him while smack talking him in local. Explain to him in a polite professional manner how and why you are better than him (both in eve space ships and RL). A slow death and a stout verbal schooling will not only put him in his place, but it will discourage him from ever bothering you in the future.

Griefers like the guy you are describing are actually more coward than bully and 1 swift kick in the nutz sends them on thier way.
