Harvesting corpses

With Rhea coming along, I thought we should revive the idea.

Collect up the corpses then try to salvage implants (some are destroyed on death, some are "destroyed" with a failed salvage)
Obviously, there would need to be a skill line and tools for this.

I like the idea of a market where player's bodies are being traded to those with the skill. Necro-[somethings] digging around in people's heads. Implants appearing on the market again. Twisted

This would help those Null trade hubs that CCP keeps wanting. The staging station, where people hand in loot to the FC (for SRPs) would have replacement implants again. There would be a diminishing supply as they get destroyed twice over but some would survive.

Edit: Even better would be if the salvage implants had a few specs of organic matter on the graphics and a link back to the player they came from. Would you want the implants knowing they had been in someone else and who or would you want to get fresh ones? Pirate

Edit 2: Would a fleet hang around long enough with the reduced numbers to pick up the corpses or get out of there before a larger fleet comes along? Say the larger fleet does chase down the smaller one, the locals in the system with the original battle could come out to pick up what is left. Always the chance of some slave implants or such. Might be worth the risk if you are quick.

Edit 3: Maybe make corpses something that has to be smuggled into high-sec? Using particular ships, skills and implants?

Get random snippets of conversation in Local from the people that owned your implants from time to time, "voices in your head"

This is a genuinely good idea! Why would a corpse lose all the implants in its head? Why can't someone thaw it out and hack into the skull?

While it wouldn't be necessary to destroy randomly some of the implants when the pod goes kaboom, I think the success rate of hacking the head without skills needs to be zero. Training the new Surgery skill will improve this by 3% per level, with maximum skill givng a 15% chance of retrieving an implant. This is similar in concept to training reprocessing skills.

The actual operation can be performed in the reprocessing window, with the new surgery function available only in stations containing a med bay. Putting the corpse into the window will show the implants it contains, like minerals are displayed for ore. The player will also be able to see what chance there is of a successful extraction. Hit the reprocess button and the chance is rolled for each implant, with a successful roll depositing the implant into the player's hangar.

Using the reprocessing window allows the player's standing with that corporation to play also a part in the success of the operation. It will also require minimal new code to implement the feature.

As to there being a market for these corpses: don't allow anyone to see what implants a corpse contains prior to purchasing it. Even trade has its creeps; ask people in Jita.

I mentioned this in a previous thread about the same subject.
Let corpses be salvagable, which in return gives Implant parts, rather than full implants and give blueprints for the existing ones, or a brand new set (along with the LP Store ones staying).
This would create a new market, and maybe mix it up with the materials from data sites and/or covert facilities

One problem also seems to be implant layout in the market, I suggest:

Implants and Boosters
- Implants
- - Standard Implants
- - - Slot 1
- - - Slot 2
- - - Slot 3
etc
- - Slave Implants
etc
- Skill Hardwiring
- - Ship fitting
- - - Slot 6
- - - Slot 7
etc
- - Turrets & Bays
- - - Projectile
- - - - Slot 6
- - - - Slot 7
etc
- - - Hybrid
- - - - Slot 6
etc
etc
- Reclaimed Implants
- - Mirror of above
- - Reclaimed Hardwires

I like the general idea.

However, putting a link on them to the player they came from would make each one unique, preventing them from being repackaged and sold on the market. So no to that bit.

True. So the question is whether they would be contract only material or not have those features?

Because this is what happens when you float in space!

Your Corpse

And this, clearly, is why implants aren't salvageable.

When your capsule is breached your brain is turned to scrambled egg by a high powered laser to transfer your consciousness to a new clone. I'm pretty sure this would cause all sorts of damage to delicate nano-structures buried in said rapidly nuked brain...

Reading your consciousness from the brain would not be a destructive process due to the multitude of synaptic links in its structure. Destroy even a single cell and you destroy multiple associations, lobotomising effectively the capsuleer. It ain't a digital computer.

If it were me, I'd just toss it into the pile of corpses that I have saved up in Hek. Then (ironically, considering the topic), I would open a conversation with you and try to sell your corpse back to you so that you can salvage your implants. Which would be far less hilarious to see people fall for if they actually ARE able to salvage their implants. So I'm afraid that I have to say -1 to OP.

The chance of a successful salvage would be only 1 in 7 per implant. Imagine their desperation to get back that king's ransom of an implant. "... and how would Sir like to pay? Twisted"

I'm sure the lore states that your clone is euthanazed the moment the capsule is breached as the brain is destructively scanned for replication...

If you can salvage implants could I unplug them?

If you can salvage implants only from dead brains could I jumpclone and then unplug implants from that body?

-1 Because I don't see a good reason *personally* for the change when we still can't [Thing thats better for CCP to spend time fixing]

+0.5 because there should be *some* use for the pile of bodies in my hanger and if this was added I would totally use it anyway.

Glad you looked up the old one. The ISDs don't make it that clear(at least from what I've seen) that the way you reopen a topic is you petition it via the report function and state your reasons for why there.

Ahh... the classic Pod to Hell trick? After which you jump into your noob ship, undock, and find some $%^&$& has ninja'd your corpse.
