Thanks - greatly appreciated. I can't say that I'm a huge fan of the "weathering" on Caldari ships now or the completely matte finish. Compare the current in-game Widow with the new PBR version. Blecch! Kaalakiota are supposed to be black and red, and these are more of a dark grey/rust/red.

I know these are preliminary, but if this is the amount of rust/weathering on the Caldari ships - can you imagine the Minmatar?

I am currently away, traveling through time and will be returning last week.

I don't like the current ingame kaalakiota skins, they aren't black and red. This is black and red:

The old 2010 nighthawk.

The PBR'd kaalakiota skins are largely improved in terms of blackness. As I said, nighthawk and widow are a bit too weathered (mainly the nighthawk).

They vary. The Widow is perfect but the Nighthawk seems to have a lot of grey in it. Ideally, the new PBR rendering should look at least as good as these (semi-gloss, not matte).

See I don't like any of those. Black ships should not be shiny. They should be black, because being shiny defeats the purpose of being black.

this is what i mean

Flat black with crimson metallic (semi-gloss) stripes then? I was simply trying to illustrate that given a choice of the existing in-game Kaalakiota ships as opposed to the new pending PBR versions - there's no comparison. I'm also not entirely sure the Kaalakiota ships were intended to be entirely black - Ive always seen them as dark grey and black with some light grey highlights (and the aforementioned crimson stripes).

I finally got the SISI update working, so I'll upload some comparisons later.

The Caldari Navy skins are so much better now with bigger, less contrasted shapes in their camouflage pattern. The ones on TQ are a jumbled mess that totally kill the form of the ship.

Caldari Kaalakiota Ship Comparison
Comparison between Phoebe and Rhea (PBR), using the same graphics settings.

Kaalakiota (current)
Kaalakiota (pending)

The "weathering" on the panel edges is really changing the colour scheme on Caldari ships. It's also changed from a semi-gloss (some reflection) to completely matte finish. These would be my suggestions:

1. Change the finish on the Caldari ships back to a semi-gloss/metallic. While this looks fine on some Caldari hulls, it ends up looking quite washed out for most of them (compare before and after Rattlesnakes for the most vivid example).
2. If the intended goal was to have more of a 'wear and tear' look on the Caldari ships, might I suggest changing the 'wear' colour from the current brown to an outright black or dark grey. The 'wear' portion would actually look great in a matte/worn finish

Rule 1. When making models of things never use pure black or white because they do not look correct, 99% or less of each, and I prefer as to many 90% at most.

Rule 2. Pure Metalics on models do not work, they are too shiney and too glossy, and obsurce all detail due to over reflectiveness - your current TQ version of the imperial issue ships [Apocalyse and Armageddon] are a correct level of metalics, the current SISI version are too shiney and look like someone smeared testors gloss coat all over it.

Rule 3. Dull finish is best for anyting that is suppost to be large or gigantic, this is why you do not see shine on things that even up close are glossy, take Modern naval vessels - they are glossy up close, a semi-gloss coat to be specific, but you see them at any distance and they seem flat and not shiney at all - this is because of how light works off of very large objects, so shiney EVE ships being gigantic simply make them look tiny and model like, and much fo the gloss leads to loss of detail and a plastic look as well.

Also, the light effects are coming in from all angles - destroying any contrast on the models detail, all of this has been lost from the current TQ version when you compare them to currect SISI objects, and not meaning the color, but the way the light is makeing all the bump maps flat and featureless.

Also the lighting on them is to harsh and too bright - it makes all the colors and shine too much, there is a large number of "white" lines on edges that look crappy - because unlike atoms in RL, pixels are way to course at any resolution to make it no jagged at some point in the viewing angles, and ultimately most GPU will not do well with this making the majority of people seeing less than optimal details.

On that note, I would suggest that the lighting in general be given both a brightness and a contrast control sliders for EVE as most games have.

I like the new Amarr and Gallente ships, actually.

Hey there, capsuleers. Thanks for the continuing feedback. Our efforts on this feature continue apace.

We're taking comments into consideration as the work progresses, so please keep giving us constructive input here!

Also, if you persevere in resisting the urge to bug report missing hulls (Minnies, etc), I might mentally nod in your approximate direction with something resembling respectful acknowledgement and gratitude.
