What's the quickest path to PvP?

As the title suggests, this is what I want to do. What's the best starter (Gallente), ship should I be going for and how should I fit it?

Are there any corps out there that like to take complete new players on to teach the fine art of PvP?

pyfa/EFT is the best way to get a feel for what any given hull is capable of with any fit. Learn to use all the available in-game information. corpmates can fill you in on more esoteric **** like the end result of stacking penalties but basic survival stuff is just in how you independently learn to set up and use your overview, scanner, notifications box, local intel, F10 and third-party resources.

The other direction to go in is to join any of the 4 FW militias.

Most of the PvP is in T1 Frigs, and the isk is excellent.

Not to be flippant or anything. But flagging criminal at a trade hub with a new character in a t1 frig will net you some action.

It might not be fun, but it's doable.

Stuff:
1. You could make a 10-15 day train on an alt, and throw him in red vs blue - to get some experience flying a kiting atron, and some experience in fleet fights.
2. Brave newbies. They take people and fight.
3. There's some war-dec training corps (check crime and punishment). It that turns out to be your thing.
You could look at 'feyds (forget his last name)' blog - and do some ninja salvaging and then bait mission runners in an incursis.
4. Code, or other knock off corps: train an alt for a gank catalyst and go after miners... personally seems kind of boring. You'll learn concord mechanics pretty quick though (response times, pulling concord off gates, etc.).
5. *As mentioned above, join the default militia corps and start chatting in militia chat, find some people to fly with (or go it solo) and head into lowsec. Make some isk running plexes, fit more t1 frigs. Rinse repeat. After people get done yelling 'Spy' you'll get a go at decent conversation.
6. Start training some scanning skills and poke around in wormholes or chat up some wormhole corps. There are some pretty pvp centric corps. Or some corps that stage out of a wh with a lowsec/nullsec static. (not quick so maybe not a good call).
7. Flag criminal anywhere, and let someone see you.

There are a lot of corps (small, big, medium) where you can figure some stuff out and get guidance. In short, you'll find a lot of ways to fight - the tough part will be finding a fight you can win (knowing you can win the fight) and having patience.

Seriously, Eve's a game you can log into and not accomplish anything in 8 hours and be busy the whole time.

when i started pvp, i just jumped into a low-sec system and went for it....it helped alot....as now i have very little fear of low-sec and you get tons of fights.

now, with a 2006 toon, most wont engage unless they are well fortified. either way always update your clone!....it is very important....sp loss is no fun.....ive experienced first hand.

its easy to find pvp, you just have to look for it. just dont fly anything you cant afford to lose....or be like me and fly things you cant and enjoy the rush.Pirate

Fit out 50 Atrons, go to FW space and hang out in the complexes.

When they have all blown up, do it again.

This, but join FW so you can earn LP whilst you look for fights.

I agree with this, though I wouldn't fit all 50 atrons the same way. Fit for different situations: Fit a kitey rail, fit some ewar, fit melt your face blasters. Find your niche and go to town! The concept is to become comfortable with what you're flying; there are many different techniques out there, finding your own will be the fast track to success, which is having FUN with this game.

I used to recommend joining a FW corp that was decent at PVP, but after looking at the options for fixing my faction standings since retiring from FW, I no longer do.

I agree with this there is no better way to learn pvp than to do it yourself.
And you don't need to join FW to fight in the complexes.

The more u lose the more u learn. But never say its your sp that got you killed always try to search for your pilot errors and go convo the guy who killed you most player give you an advice what could have done better.

Also never be afraid of doin PvP loosing ships is part of the game. The best time to start PvP is now regardless of expierence and skillpoints.

Some basic training from more expierenced players can be helpful though.

Basics you should read up and train in frig-fights and Faction-Warfare complexes:
- Setting up your Overview
- How to D-Scan
- Transversal
- A good UI setup - Having Local and D-Scan always in your view
- Keyboard shortcuts help a lot
- Basic understanding how complexes work.
- Don't fight the Worm (its a ship :))

FW space is a tad quiet.

You'll have more luck finding a fight against the local pirates.

RvB is better IMO, if you just want to find a fight. Problem is FW makes money and RvB doesn't.

There are plenty more differences.

Prior to anything you need to establish a place of deployment. If you join Caldari avoid Tama gate and Nourv. If you join Gallente I heard you should avoid Villore. The most convenient lowsec entries are typically the worst.
Find a way to ship those 50 atrons as close to the fight as possible. Getting a new ship within the 60s of you dying is gonna save you a lot of frustration. People are typically very risk averse because PvP in EVE involves "getting a ship, flying 10jumps out, dying with 60 seconds and then going 10jumps back to get a new ship".

It's a sandbox game at its core and asset logistics are not trivial.

Ya, best way would be to get a dozen cheap ships to a lowsec border next to a warzone and then just dive in. If you want pvp-experience, you should also skip joining FW for now so you can fight against both sides.

I'd suggest cheap ships, like meta-fitted tristans or thrashers. Get 10 os those and you still only spent 30mil :D

^^ this....tristans and if you arent drone-centric yet, incursus', i would fit with blasters....regular tackle in mids....and an aar armor tank for the lows.

doubling the targets is definetly going to get you more fights...more fights....more figuring things out.

i will say though that i havent had first hand experience but some fly FW stabbed, so dont be surprised to see people warp out if the fight looks like it isnt going their way.

the quickest path is "set destination" to the nearest low-sec system and start hunting....just stay away from gates and stations.....the guns will eat you for breakfast.

always update your clone.

Ok, so plenty of options for me to consider. I think what I'll do is train up my PvP skills, earn some ISK doing some missions and find a low sec to jump in and at least try to get myself some kills. I know I'll fail miserably but at least I'll have some fun in doing it.

my $0.02: EVE PvP: For NEWBIES!

I can wholeheartedly recommend RvB as a great place for newbie PvP. You will die, a lot. You will get farmed by 100m SP 'toons, a lot. You will litter Otela/Josameto/Liekuri/Poinen with enough Atron wrecks to build a dread (hell, I sure did).

You will also learn, a lot. You will make many, many friends. You will have plenty of opportunity to splat others. You will have the opportunity to try your hand at being an FC and no-one will care or think less of you after you whelp the entire fleet.

RvB is pretty easy, although ISK making opportunities are limited and usually revolve around surviving the fight and looting the field. Log in, purchase a 5-pack of fitted Atrons via corp contract (~7m ISK iirc?) and just go nuts. That's some quality entertainment right there.
