So I participate in a wide variety of activities in Eve and I have noticed something interesting.

When I scam players out of hundreds of millions(or even billions) of isk, they respond fairly well. Insults are rare and generally fairly tame.

However, when I gank mining barges, the owners frequently to ballistic. I have gotten death threats against myself and my family, wishes I get cancer, homophobia, racism etc. the worst hate I have recieved was over a 30m isk retriever.

I can't understand the difference. Why do I get such an extreme reaction for comparatively minor losses?

Edit: here is a good example of what I am talking about. Keep in mind this is an empty pod.

I, too, take my own limited personal experiences and try to generate stereotypes about groups of people.

Obviously the severity of a reaction depends on how highly the client valued their ex-stuffs, not how highly you value them.

Miners (of the type you are talking about) are progress-questing, and thus any setback at all is basically game-breaking.

The average "carebear" (not to be confused with Carebears... you know.... the ones that actually are benevolent people, like Chribs) is an angry basement-dwelling incel neckbeard misogynist #Gamergate jerk that can't separate reality from fiction.
They're convinced that because you kill pixel-spaceships in a video game, that you're a murdering sociopath, IRL. Never you mind the fact that pirates in EVE are actually some of the most easygoing and polite people you'll ever meet in an MMO.

That moment when you realize the crazy lady with all the cats was right...

i think it has more to do with where the blame is placed in their minds. the victims of scams ultimately realize it is their fault it happened for being stupid or not reading.

gank victims feel they were just minding their own business and someone comes along and effs with them. makes it easy to externalize the fault and give it a face.

probably fairly simple reasoning.

That was pretty standard for a reaction. I have seen far worse stuff. Also that blog is painful to read.

I would also think it has to do with wealth. People getting scammed often have a lot of isk left. Many miners are close to bankruptcy because of the poor returns from non ISBoxer mining, and you may be forcing them to quit the game.

I have seen much the same as the OP has.

Get scammed out of a plex? "Well, gg, I know better next time."

Lose a piddling Retriever? "I'm gonna find you, and skull**** your whole family!"

The only thing I can think of is that many miners suffer from a mental problem.

"Verily, I have often laughed at the weaklings who thought themselves good because they had no claws."

One of ours, ten of theirs.

Best Meltdown Ever.

OP is trolling.

Thread should be locked for complete lack of original content and ranting asap.

This is a really good point. However, most miners aren't really "playing" the game (which is really punctuated by the fact that they got ganked in the first place!) and probably would have quit of boredom at some point anyway.

Thats because you did not engage brain or are trolling, however the difference is simple, most people who are scammed are taking a punt, they know the old adage that if it is too good to be true then it isn't true, but they go for it, so when they get caught they blame themselves for their own stupidity.

The miner however is not taking a punt as far as he is concerned, so therefore he sees the gank as unfair, he was not bothering anyone, therefore he is rather upset, he cannot blame himself for it, even though some should as they fit no tank and don't use Skiff's. Another factors is that they have a sense of fair play and feel that they don't deserve this, they also believe that hisec space should be policed better and do not like the fact that the deterrence of blowing up the ganking ship has no deterrence impact at all. Finally a fair number of the ganking players seem to be rather up themselves, so in a nutshell that is why they react rather badly.

But don't worry too much, there are less and less of these people playing Eve for you to get all upset over for their harsh words!

When the going gets tough the Gankers get their CSM rep to change mechanics in their favour.

Yes, it's an obvious bait thread and you're a very smart and thoughtful guy for pointing that out to the rest of us. Thank you for your service to GD.

If you don't believe me, you can check my post history. I pulled a multi billion isk scam on the market forums several months ago. The scammed players took it very well, which is par for course on a wide variety of scams I have pulled.

That's not just a good thing, it's a GREAT thing.

The less people there are who doxx, spew death threats, and sling vile sexual insults when a normal game interaction takes place, the better. Such people have no place in this community, not now, not ever.

They can take their mental illness elsewhere.
