"Here are your black Caldari ships?"
- "Black. Fantastic!"
"Matte black it is."
- "Awesome. Wait, this isn't black?"
"It's a shade of black."
- "Sure, ok fine. Wait - now it's dark grey?"
"Yes, but there are still some black highlights."
- "No, it's now completely grey with some light grey."
"Pretty sure there's still some black in there. How about now?"
- "Now it's really grey. Light grey to be exact."

I am currently away, traveling through time and will be returning last week.

Other than that, it looks verry good

is it because the lighting still needs to be re-done on them that capital wrecks are inadvisable or is this a bug?

My... my... My Harpy... its BEAUTIFUL! Big smile

I seriously never thought an Ishukone ship ship could look so beautiful!

So imagine my great disappointment when I looked at my Lai Dai Bustard. Quite flat.

I like matte effect on caldari ships, and glossy on gallente, it adds to every race something unique (and to game itself). Pls dont change that, just fix some skins here and there

Lighting is looking much improved. I'm not fond of Amarr ships becoming white with gold trim though. I know it looks Christian-y, but it looks lame. Dull gold/yellow against metallic gold was better.

Caldari seems broken, they look flat and dull and no blue windows anymore :)

Did they paint the windows black perhaps? Lol

So I'll go ahead and say this because nobody seems to be commenting on gallente ships. As for the basic color scheme, it fits the newer models much better than the old ones. On the newer megathron, for instance, it looks like the ship has been painted entirely in two colors, with no range of shades on the steal parts of the ship. The blueish parts now appear more green, though I get the feeling this is the direction CCP wants to take the overall gallente look. Overall, the ship feels to shiny, and doesn't have enough range or detail in it's colors to accurately portray the size of the ship. Older models, like the thorax, look plain out bad. The thorax is ridiculously shiny, and seems to have been stripped of a great deal of detail, like most of the other ships in question. I would ultimately suggest that all ships be visually brought in line with how the incursus currently looks, albeit with more range to the steal sections of the ship and a drop in overall reflectivity. (and all chrome sections redone entirely. It looks like tin foil) Virtually all of the tech 2 gallente ships look ridiculous, the kronos beign the prime example. I'm not going to explain this, you should be able to figure out what's wrong on your own.

As for non gallente ships, some of the caldari ships look incredible, save for a few that also have had a great deal of detail stripped from their texture, and the select few CCP has felt the urge to coat in mud. These are mainly kaalakiota shipsm and some navy ships (so generally more advanced, high end ships_. My first issue with this is where the hell does mud come from in space. My second issue is that these are advanced, high end ships manufactured by specific reputable corporations, not by just some random shipyard. Why are they covered in dirt? It looks silly. The only ship this would make sense on is minning ships, and even that sounds like a stretch. The amarian ships seem to have a great deal of detail brought out in their gold plating, but a loss of detail over the rest of the ship. Minmatar ships look great though :)

tl;dr- most ships look less detailed now, ccp seems to have become obsessed with shiny things. I say fix, or leave as is on tranquility

The Amarrian ships look so good, I mean the T1 stock ships just look beautiful, they really are the golden fleet.

Caldari have a very matte look, almost like a composite material rather than metals of the other races.

The Gallente looks great, the vexor and kronos looking especially good.

Assuming the minmatar ships get the same level of improvement from this I cannot wait to see this hit TQ along with the new UI overhaul it makes eve look like it should.

With everything set to maximum graphically speaking I was basically talking incoherent gibberish about how good it all looked for 15 minutes on TS while looking through all the ships.

I haven't looked at every ship, but the mining barges look amazingly good. Though I do agree that on most ships there's a level of reflection that really shouldn't be there. These are ships, not mirrors. Nothing, except maybe the gold parts on Amarr ships, should reflect like that. Tone it waaaaaaaay down.

I actually liked how that worked on the Amarr Titan. It had mostly these matte areas but all the gold lines were reflective, which is as it should be.

The new lighting system has done wonders for the sense of scale on ships like the Machariel. Check it out in game, ignore the old looking textures and take a good look at it. The cabin windows now actually look like windows on many of the ships rather than blurry pixelated blobs of light. Obvious issues like the excessively shiny and aluminium looking gallente ships are obvious so I have no concerns regarding that. One thing I am hopeful for is that this will lead to higher resolution textures as this lighting system is incredibly unforgiving on these dated textures.

The Gallente T1 and Duvolle Labs T2 (Deimos/Astarte etc.) ships need to tone down on the shininess. It's just too much.

The Megatrhon looks very nice, as well as the Navy Ships.

Also, where are the unique extra wings and engines on the Enyo and Ishkur? I want them back.

Have to agree, the Incursus was incredibly shiny on undock, just doesn't look right at all.

CCP has no sense of humour.

I read messages of others people here with examples of ships
and for me the obvious one problem

Mask textures for many ships have Not redone!

If you see an example of a plastic ship.. - it is a sign

this is clear example - ship lacks texture or settings
it should look like this Image - instead of gray blank flat surface (plastic)

this is obviously a bug or not completed work!
please CCP - dont rush it - revise all ships - teach artists of PBS concept (it simple and fast)
otherwise it will be a bad looking update.. and also get bad taste

Nah - False alarm - I just looked over 100+ ships on SiSi - All looks good
- Amarr ships get nice swag Golden metal
- Gallente ships now have swag Chrome metal
- Caldari ships have nice slight difference of rough metals
- Minmatar not available in preview now..
better feel of rust \ dust \ dirt on every ship - nice rough feel of non-metal surfaces (example: amarr white Oracle)
better colors feeling under realistic light condition (colors not toxic \ toy-style)

of course CCP reuse old textures - but in general visual changes look very good
and most importantly looks constant in any condition (more realistic - and will be better lighting visual too)
good work CCP!

Ps. i see only few little problems like
some Gallente ships have "too much" reflections (smoothnnes)
and more important problem - some "metals" have white specular light but..
it should have some little color tint - which is common for metals and not for non-metals
whats why many Caldari ship still have "little plastic feel"
because they shine like non-metal surface (carbon \ stone \ rubber)

i guess CCP will fix many little things while work in progress
but overall looks awesome start - im sure will be even better in future (much better than people can imagine)

The PBR seems to be doing very nice things for the Gallente and Sansha ships in particular- nice to see the odd plastic'y sheen give way to something a bit more metallic. Plus everyone is loving the Golden Fleet being golden.

I do have a nagging suspicion that the Caldari ships are going to be hard to get right as a number of their hulls are a very old design indeed (the Rokh, Drake, etc.) and then you have some that are quite new and have gone is a different direction (Manticore, Moa, Blackbird). What works for one isn't necessarily going to work for the other and I suspect different shaders should be used to do the different generations justice.

I'lll go in between and say that the Revenant is going to shine like a star if it ever crosses your screen, might be a tad too much shine on it.
