OK I'll put my money where my mouth is and say that if the gift page looked like this when the remap had been pulled, a lot of people would not have chosen other gifts only to subsequently find that a remap was made available.

Basic point is, don't pull something in one location, and mention it in another. Devs are assuming that everyone is reading every dev and blog post on a daily basis - they're not, it's an unsafe presumption.

Atm I cant change the gift. I Hope the selection will be resetted, so its not so unfair if you pick your gift in the wrong time Sad

In this case, please file a petition and the GMs will help you out.

it would be good to have that kind of information somewhere more visible.
Maybe in the devblog or the initial post.

Bravo CCP!

Pilots may select the holiday gift of their choice = win.
"Bonus" remap functions outside of remap time = win.

CCP monitors player feedback and questions, and then responds with periodic updates on a regular basis and then addresses the issue? Holy Sheet! WIN!

Well done folks.... happy holidays to all of you at CCP.

The best gift for me? Seeing how everyone worked that well together! The community reporting some serious problems, the community team and developers quickly pulling together, checking possible solutions, a swift action to prevent further possible disappointments, quick communication and then of course more heavy developer magic, resulting in this fantastic turn around and great result. Seeing all this happen within such a short time and being part of it, this is wonderful.

Thank you.

This is a classic example the kind of player:dev co-operation that will make EVE more than the sum of its parts.

So I get an extra remap on each character on the account? If so, there is no question that this is the most valuable gift by far.

Can any dev/gm comment on this, please!

at least someone pays attention to me :(

Sorry, I just got in for the day. Smile

Yes, even if you chose to get remaps before the gift page was taken down, you will still get your bonus remap on the 22nd.

Devs,

The one concept that I believe remains unclear to many, including myself, is this:

What happens in the case of characters who have not expended their existing "Bonus" remaps, and how many of those remaining are considered "Bonus"? As the architecture did not previously differentiate between the two types, or even initiate any sort of timer to reclaim a "Normal" one if you had accumulated one or more bonus remaps, I believe people are curious as to how the new system relates.

CCP Pleognost wrote:

* You will be able to instantly remap by using a "bonus remap" - these are the same as the remaps that newbies receive when they create their characters. When switching to the new system, you will keep any bonus remaps you had previously, and these will never expire.

This is a great example to clarify. If this is true and the remaps on a new account are considered as "Bonus," where does the "Normal" one come into play? Will new accounts still have two bonus remaps, in addition to the "Normal" one that will initiate their remap timer (1+2)?

Similarly, in my own case... if I have one initial bonus remap remaining (I used my first bonus remap six months ago, and my second two months ago, but obviously I have no timer to reflect either of these)--and excluding the gift--will my existing count be considered 1+1 (1+2 with gift)? Or will I lose a bonus remap and have it taken down to 1+0 (1+1 with gift selection)?

Naturally, I am concerned that I may have to expend all 3 of what were considered gift/bonus remaps in order to begin my regular remap timer.

Having said that, thank you all so much for your painstaking and exhaustive efforts on our behalf. It is truly appreciated.

I'll try to clarify this as best I can.

New accounts will receive two bonus remaps, and they also start with a zeroed-out remap timer. This means they can effectively remap three times in the first year. The first remap will start their timer, but will not consume bonus remaps. Any further remaps between when the timer starts and when the timer elapses (in one year from the first remap) will consume bonus remaps.

In your case, it sounds like you have a timer that started about two months ago. (This is because the old system would reset the timer every time you remapped, regardless of whether you were doing a bonus remap.) So, when the new system goes live, you should see something similar to this screenshot in your character sheet's attributes list - but with a different timer, of course.

If you choose the neural remapping gift, the "bonus remaps available" counter should increase to 2, but the timer will not change.

Indeed.

Who the hell are those people posting with faked CCP sigs and what have they done with the real devs that we wanted to track down and, well, at least hit with a stick just some months ago.

I have started playing in 2010 and had 2 remaps available (which I now learn are considered bonus :)). After the last gift I had 3 maps available. So far I have used 2 of these and now have one remaining. My question is what is my timer right now? Is it basically 0 and starts once i use that last remap? Thats what I alway thought .... Since I always had remaps available I have never seen my timer and assumed it would start counting after the last of the 3 is used.

Under the current system, the timer re-starts each time you remap, regardless of whether it's a standard or bonus remap. Once the new code hits, you'll see your timer as well as the number of remaps remaining.

So, if you last remapped in June, even if it was a bonus remap, you'll next be able to use your timed remap in June 2012. Your timer right now is the time you last remapped, plus one year.

The new code will fix both the timer being reset every remap and the UI not showing you all the relevant information, as I've described earlier in this thread. Smile

Plegonost,

You have thoroughly clarified my question. Thanks!

I am glad to see that the new attitude over at CCP didn't stop with the release of Crucible. You guys rock. <3

...make skill point remaps available, and tradable.

ex; new player starts out as miner. player then gets taste for pvp, player has 5,000,000 SP in industry tree, would better suit them to have it in gunnery sp.

i know you can pass out sp, its done on sisi, so let players remap sp with a card, token etc, annually as well:-)

redefining one's skillpoints to better fit their needs / recover from skill mistakes. that is a cool idea, but highly... dangerous...

it would have to be striclty controlled. annually, at the most, with none of this ignoring-the-cooldown-timer stuff. that's fine for redefining how quickly one earns their future sp's; with this we're talking about rewriting history...

not so sure about being tradeable; if they are tradeable then they'd have to be player-made... an implant that allows the redifinition, but burns out and requires a recovery time when its done? able to be created only by the greatest industrialist minds in new eden? and unbelievably expensive to build as well?

there should be limits on how many sp's can be re-arranged. 10% of a character's total? an amount equal to how many sp's a toon earned since their last skillpoint redefinition? perhaps this could be defined by the grade of the implant (running with idea from above)

/me shivers at the imagined possibilities...
