High I have recently returned to EVE. I have a question about my Drake DPS.

I currently have 15.5 mill SP in missiles, with all support missiles skills to level V. I also have Caldari Battlecruisers level V.

I currently fit 2xBCU in the lows and use normal Heavy Missiles for the range (63km). But the thing is, I'm only getting 200DPS? Am I missing something here?

I get 300dps if I use Kinetic Missiles for obvious reasons and would get more for using assault missiles but the thing is not every mission calls for use of Kinetic damage and the range sucks with assault missiles.

I'm going by the DPS on the fitting screen in-game.

Drake only does kinetic. Also, you should have 3x BCUs, not just two.

If you need a missile BC that can do non-kinetic damage, look into the Cyclone.

Ah thankyou, I did not know this. I wondered why they only went to 64km, I used to be able to fire them 90km and upwards before.
So what do people fly these days? Are all Caldari ships less viable now?

try a navy drake. extra launcher and not limited to kinetic damage

While they nerfed HML, they buffed cruise missile launchers. Damage has been increased significantly. So while all the HML ships has been nerfed to the ground (including Tengus), BS missile ships have been improved dramatically. Raven, RNI, SNI, Golem, Rattlesnake, Typhoon and even the Armageddon now enjoys the buff to cruise missiles. BS class missile ships are in a good position now with regards to PVE applications. PVP, still the same as before.

Get a raven and try it out. Raven + MWD or MJD, 2 painters is good enough for any mission. (good enough but not the best...golem and the rattlesnake share the throne right now with regards to PVE missiles ships).

You smoking your socks. A HML tengu still works great and will with scourge fury shooting a guristas BS be only a few seconds behind in killing it. But it has selective use, ie only kinetic damage is good.

Bad advice. Rapid lights aren't bonused on the Drake.

It's a 10%/level bonus. 50% with BC 5. That's a fairly big chunk of damage and is hardly wasted.

As I said earlier in the thread, if you want to shoot something other than kinetic missiles, use a cyclone instead, as it will do more damage than a drake with non-kinetic types (and then has more drone bandwidth on top of that, leading to even more damage). Heck, even a Gnosis does more damage with non-kinetic missiles alone, and then it's got bonused drones on top of that.

I see that some people have suggested the Tengu, which is a very nice ship, but if your skills aren't up to it and you want to stick with the Drake then something like the following will do a job for you. No bling on a T1 hull, but that means this is only 65 Mil fully fitted. Swap resists to suit the mission obviously. Gives 577 DPS with full flight of Hob IIs - more than enough for any Lvl 3 mission:
