Punch em right in the face...if they don't get up and try to hit you back, then explaining Eve is a waste of time.

Once upon a time I used to go to sleep, until I discovered Eve Online.

At times I feel like Joaquin Phoenix in Her. EVE is intelligent, compelling, and often rather personal. But there is no way in real life to explain this relationship to someone without looking like you're a bit of a loon.

like the subject says.....

for me, some of my friends play those "other" mmo games (i used to)
they ask me about eve...
this is what i say...

EVE is the most dime dropping - back stabbing - buddy ****** - cut throat - PVP you will ever see... its awsome...

then i go along the lines of .... imagine that dungeon your in with your buddies and you die,.. now imagine that all the gear you are wearing is now GONE cause you died and your left nekkid at your bind point... the look of total shock and horror is priceless

trust no one
paranoia rules all
fly only what you can afford to loose
you will loose...many times

I just link the "Butterfly effect and Casualty" videos to my friends.

The stars are like the trees in the forest, alive and breathing. And they're watching over me.

Do then turn around and say that the game is nothing like those videos?

That's probably because we actually are a bit looney.

Make space glamorous! Is EVE dying or not? Ask the EVE-O Death-o-meter!

Déjà-vu... Shocked

Wasn't this thread already a few years old when I first posted in the forums?

Stupidity should be a bannable offense.

One simply doesn't. It needs to be experienced. So perhaps best explained with a Buddy Invite?

If I try to explain what I like about eve the most I mostly touch up on the topics of space comabt, a single shard, player run economy, actual loss when you lose your ship, and how there is no overall level and how xp accrues in real time.

There might be a couple other main points, but those are the things I love about EVE. That being said, most people aren't interested in it, so I don't really talk about it very often. I have 1 friend who I managed to convince to play, and he is still subscribed, but he only logs in to change his skills. I think the game os jsut to overwhelming for him, every instance of pvp I try to get him into is over before he even manages to get on grid.

One should never let a PLEX come between friends.

if your friend puts a plex where you can take it , he doesn't deserve it.

Unfortunately, I am too honest, and I know the people asking a bit too well. My usual response is something like, "you shattered your monitor over getting spawn camped in battlegrounds in WoW...you have absolutely no business playing Eve".

I invite them to go out somewhere and meet me there.

On their way there I have my real friends waiting to beat them up and take their stuff.

When they show up I tell them its their fault for trusting me.

Then I post a video of them getting beat up so other Eve vets can laugh.

Then buy another throw away character to do it again.

I usually say "You have heard of WoW yes? Well its WoW in space, except of running around and kill things with sticks then level up, you shoot crap with guns. No level system, real time training, and its open world." usually by that point there eyes have glazed over and that ends that.

None of my friends play mmos, so no good trying.

I could try and explain it to my mom (82). But she'd want to play and would delight in scamming me out of my stuff, awox me or do whatever one can do in EVE to another. It would be lots of fun but absolutely not casual anymore Lol.
