Solved my connection issues...

I just wanted to post this information to anyone having connections issues:

I've been in the "it must be CCP's fault" camp for some time. I was getting no fewer than 8-10 disconnects per day. To the naked eye everything would be ok, but of course targets were no longer taking damage, and ammo was no longer counting down. The worst part about it would be the clients could not be closed even with task manager, it usually required the character be re-logged in to trigger the "connection lost" prompt. I checked my connection, over 50 meg download and 14 meg upload. Out of desperation, I decided to install an old D-link Gaming router I had laying around, one that didn't offer wifi. I have had no drops since. Its been almost a week. I don't even see the hiccups I used to see.

Router I was using was a belkin N750 DB replaced with a D-Link DGL 4100.

EDIT: 1 month of disconnection free gameplay... a full month. 3 clients simultaneously running. NOT ONE.

Day after patch day... 3 socket closed disconnects (and counting).

You look like a friendly sort of fella. I think I'll take your word for this. Unless...you got those jowls from eating house pets.

We must accommodate the idiocracy.

Wait.. what is this??!?!?! Is this.. someone who looked beyond the hurf blurf of the normal 'closed socket' whiners and found.. that.. it wasn't CCP's fault?!?!?!?! Is this actually General Discussion?!?!?!

What the hell is happening!??!?!?!

My world has been turned upside down! Although now that up is down ..I guess that made the world right again, but still! What the actual **** is happening in this thread??!?!?! I cant handle this...

Someone do something! Throw a freakin pie, cut a loud fart, make out with a dolphin, do SOMETHING to make this STOP!!!! Next thing you know Highsec will be holding hands with nullsec, Horses will be eating each other, and somewhere a lone dove will fly across the screen in Tidi while Chribba dual wielding mining lasers jumps at a clown made of veldspar and fires wildly while screaming in Elvish "Don't touch my watermelons!!!!!!!!"

Since the cessation of their usefulness is imminent, may I appropriate your belongings?

I still get weird random server disconnects when I leave the game running. It occurs apparently even when the client doesn't need updating which is odd. The modem I have is just a standard Cisco cable modem going directly into my computer and the line coming from the wall into the modem is high quality. I really have no idea where my issues are coming from unless there is a timeout with the EVE client that is supposed to kick you after awhile.

Wired in.

And still not a single disconnect...I run two clients almost exclusively ...sometimes three on same comp. Amazing.

Connections are funny things.

Where I am at, I need a wireless connection. I was getting socket closed at specific time periods throughout the evening.

1pm when most people are at work? Completely fine. 6pm? Well, let's just say it would have been better for me to walk to data over to CCP.

My solution? I hooked up an old old old old... OLD... wireless router to my current router and used it as an access point. Turns out, the wireless capabilities of my old tech surpass that of the new stuff I have. Go figure.

So yeah OP, many times it isn't CCP's fault...

...

Sometimes it is.

I posted this November 10th. Today is December 2nd. 22 days and I have not had ONE single disconnect since switching to my old D-link gaming router.

If you are having connection issues, you owe it to yourself to try a gaming router (they prioritize gaming data over all others).

It's about $40 more expensive and has "GAMING" written on the box. After you find one of those, search for the version which doesn't have that text and save money.

Because obviously it's impossible for a router to prioritize one type of traffic over another...

1) Buy just about any TP-Link brand router

2) Flash with DD-WRT firmware

3) Use the money you saved to buy several PLEX.

My laptop still gets socket closed but the desktop is fine and before you say anything I've changed ips, wireless and wire, mi ed whole states and been in other countries. Socket closed only happen at inconsistent times and days
