Died in a mission :l

Mission was The Blockade/Sansha.
What did I do wrong? I did the earlier waves fine. I had to warp out once because I forgot to fit my resist mods, but after that it was fine.. Until the final wave. I got absolutely wrecked.
So, other than fitting the wrong resist mods (1em/1therm instead of 2em) and not warping out once I was in armor.. Why did I die? I was orbiting drones at 2k, only 4-5 battleships, but I got absolutely destroyed.

The blockade is one of the hardest L4 missions if you pop the triggers correctly (incorrectly?). Also there are several webbing frigates and that fit is going to die in a fire to the NPC DPS if it gets webbed.

Also the waves spawn at rather long range, so your transversal isn't going to be that good if you stick near the "center" of the area orbiting your drones. And bad transvrersal means you need a beefy tank.

Ishtar works better if you armor tank it.

most npcs can't hit at that range, and even when they do get to ~50km they tend to have trouble hitting an AB cruiser at orbit speeds. Getting all the way to the final wave just fine and then getting popped does seem strange. OP did say there were only 4-5 bs. It is possible that the orbit was just bad for transversal. A good case for paying attention and manual piloting instead of clicking orbit and putting your head in a microwave.

Yeah I was thinking the same thing at first. But now that I think about it a few Sansha BS rats actually do most of their DPS with EM cruise missiles (Centus Beast Lord, Centus Dread Lord, Centus Mutant Lord) which will still hit even if you are orbiting something. My guess is the OP got unlucky on the last spawn a got several of the missile throwers and didn't have enough raw speed to sig tank them hitting his lowest resist.

The last wave in The Blockade contains BS that are tougher than any other wave, it's basically "the boss fight".

My usual tactic was to warp out and come back in at 100km. These days I fly with about 1000–1500 DPS, so sitting in one place and shooting everything that comes into range works just fine. Except for Guristas, which focus on long range missile spam.

Okay, thanks for the help.
I always alpha the frigates first, but I'll check my logs to see what caused the damage.

I suppose that is the other thing, I mainly used my ishtar vs guristas. 93% kinetic resists are a lot higher than 55% EM resists. although at cruiser sig and ab speed damage reduction should be significant too. I think I remember getting hit for 9 damage, so I would guess EM missiles would be hitting for about 60 each (assuming similar base damage, given blockade tends to have high level rats it could be more, although they are sansha so maybe less)? that very well could be trouble.

Hmm. I might move over to Caldari missions then. I have standings to do l4s for some of them.

I have a 100mn Ishtar I snipe with . using curators, wardens or bouncer IIs

so far every L4 mission has been cake. most of them even done afk.

1) warp at 0 .. burn away killing frigs with hobgobs
2) stop at 100-120km drop sentries
3) ????
4) profit

Also the fit I use is much cheaper and seems more effective.

Your fit is running a 100mn afterburner. That would make a huge difference when sig tanking missiles.

I imagine most people don't admit losing ships in missions, lol. I did lose a Hurricane FI in a L4 mission, mostly because I read the wrong mission report and flew a mission I probably would have passed on in a battlecruiser. Luckily the two pimp modules I had on the ship were in the wreck and I recovered them. I almost lost the same ship in some bonus room of an L3 mission, because they killed my drones and I couldn't get away from or kill the web/scram frigates (and had battleships hitting me with massive DPS from over 100km) but for some reason they broke off while I was in structure. Either they felt sorry for me or there is some limit to how my km they will chase you away from the original warp in point. Now I have secondary RLML and sparingly use drones. Completely different type of ship as you are flying though.

Most sanshas sniping hard. Use curators against them

I do that Sansha mission a lot, but sometimes I got a contractor in the final wave, high-dps, low tank, but maybe that was the reason.

While smaller ships can do harder missions.. doesn't mean they optimal... it does however mean you need to pay more attention. If you had been in a domi or any other bs you would not have lost your ship. If you use the methodology of using a BS to do BS heavy missions... you will have a far easier time.. unless of course you using a tengu in guristas mission Blink, but then a BS will still work better in most cases.

... What next ??
