Hello everyone and thank you!

I've been struggling with my Maelstrom Fitting and im wondering...how the hell do i get up my dps?
i have 8 t1 scout artys with depleted ammo and i get about 299dps with em.

Am i doing something wrong or? think it's real low for a BS especially when all my gunnery skills are lvl5?

You're using **** ammo with a **** weapon system. Artillery isn't made for high sustainable dps.

So what is your suggestion of improvement?

Use EMP, Phased plasma or Fusion ammo and 2-3 gyros

ACs also work better than Arty in my experience. Here's what I've used a bit for running lvl 4s when I'm completely bored (it's not amazing, but it works just fine as a starting point). And I've tried switching out for Arty, but the lost ROF and tracking doesn't seem worth the range and alpha in missions.

With all 5s it pushes 720 DPS out to 3.7+39 with a 490/1250 tank vs Angels and 92k EHP.

Hi This is the fit I use for lvl 4's

Clears rooms in no time at all - all you have to earn is how to reduce your angular velocity and theis happy one volly BC's and below. Frequently hit frigs at 60+km.

[Maelstrom, Stormy - Arty]

8x 1400mm 'Scout' Artillery I (Phased Plasma L)

Large Shield Booster II
'Orion' Tracking CPU I
Shield Boost Amplifier II
2x Heat Dissipation Field II
Ballistic Deflection Field II

2x Capacitor Flux Coil II
3x Gyrostabilizer II

3x Large Capacitor Control Circuit I

5x Valkyrie II
5x Vespa II

Swap your hardners for mission specific resists and easily get a sustained tank of 450-600. more than enough for lvl 4's

And easily Cap stable for lazy running.

For some of the angles missions or other short range ones I use

[Maelstrom, Stormy - Auto]

8x 800mm Heavy 'Scout' Repeating Artillery I (Phased Plasma L)

100MN Afterburner II
Large Shield Booster II
Shield Boost Amplifier II
2x Heat Dissipation Field II
Ballistic Deflection Field II

3x Capacitor Flux Coil II
2x Gyrostabilizer II

3x Large Capacitor Control Circuit I

5x Valkyrie II
5x Vespa II

more dps more speed with same tank.

Arty or Auto's I feel is more of a personal preferance than anything else really. Try them both out and see which you prefer.

Oops Edit:

Forgot damage figures

Arty fit - 555dps with EMP
Auto fit - 621dps with EMP

That is the Way, the Tao.

Balance is everything.

Arty fit is for volley damage, u will have low dps due to the long rate of fire.

Use auto cannons for missions, the catch is you have to move around quite a bit.

x8 800mm repeating artillery II (meta 4 should work too)

x1 Large Shield Booster
x1 Shield Boost Amp
x3 Mission Specific Hardeners
x1 100mn AB

x3 Gyrostabs
x2 Tracking Enhancers

x5 Warriors
x5 Hammerheads

x2 CCCs
X1 Projectile Ambit Extention

Could do pretty much all lvl4s except the angel extravaganza bonus room with this fit at tech 2 level at a decent rate, start throwing some deadspace and faction stuff at it and your laughing. Plus they're all things you can stick on your mach once your maelstrom becomes obsolete.

Alot of people put cap mods in the lows, but more dps is a pretty good tank too.

Never tried using the XL booster but im sure that works well too. Also as has been said, Depleted uranium is not your best choice. Use fusion for Angels, phased plasma for guristas, serpentis & mercs, EMP for shansha and blood raider if your going down the AC route..

People above me are right on the usage of 800mm AC's for most missions (particularly Angels).

Some missions work better with Arties - like The Blockade and perhaps a few others - but for these I'd usually go 1200's over 1400's. The lower ROF and higher alpha of 1400's results in lower applied DPS over multiple targets, as you waste damage "overkilling" and then waiting to fire again, which in turn leads to cruisers/etc. getting too close to you, which then ends up in time spent missing and/or burning away because you can't track as well or fire as frequently.

"Overkilling" is also the reason why you shouldn't group all your guns on a mission boat. No sense firing 8 1400's at a frig now is there :)

This one time, I like, totally did some stuff.

no AB and 20km range seems smart to me.
also if he had all lv5 skill he wont be using t1 guns

Fit will depend on the ranges you will have to fight, which depends on the NPC type (some get close in, some stay at range) and ofcourse the mission itself. The idea that "lulz artie is wrong cuz it does no dps" is silly and should be discarded as such. I'll post 2 fits, one for situations at range and one for short range scenarios. Remember; the scenario depends on what you fight, if you run into guristas you'll do fine with artie, against Angels you'll want short range etc etc.

As I don't know your fitting skills just translate to T1/named where necessary. One can ofcourse always disagree on specific mods/fits but here's two that at least make a modicum of sense. You'll notice a difference in rigging which kinda means you'll want 2 Maels. Also, resists and ammo obviously depend on mission. If you mostly fight Minnie NPC and you have to make a choice on which one to use first, choose the AC one. It might be annoying to use in ranged missions but at least it can fight itself out of trouble, an artie fit is fairly useless in short range "oh scrap" situations.

i think 1200mm where a good choice back in the days when they had the same dps of 1400 (pre proj boost), now you should fit the 1400 and ofc keep weapons ungrouped, anyway those are 2 good fits

edit: and with the very slow reload of 1400 you can really use some faction ammo w/o spending much money

Personally not a fan of 1400s for missions. The rof is balls and so is the tracking. Would you vigorously keep them ungrouped and manually apply all 8 guns then yes you're right, you do overall better. But honestly, since grouping I'd really not be in the mood for doing that and would probably make 2 or 4 groups (4 already pushing it). Lazy, perhaps but meh 8 guns...
