This is a very likely theory.

Loads of wormhole systems have static k-space connections. I reckon it will be the research hub for the new stargates, maybe including the first player-built one.

Would a gate work inside a WH?

If so would it connect to K-space or other areas of WH space?

I'm gonna go with "Thera" being an anagram of "heart".

Lore reminder: the current New Eden is what was left after the EVE Gate closed 23,000 years ago.

So either the Earth itesef has gone down the drain or just is 23,000 years more advanced than New Eden.

Balance that... Lol

So a wormhole that has landmarks in it alongside a static connection to K space.

Thera sounds alot like Terra.

Are we going home?

Well I can already predict three things that will happen in Thera in order to get people to come in here.

1) The unannounced system effect (could be a bunch of things, I'm guessing it will be a disabled cloaking device (which is suicide for 90% of the scouts in game, most likely it'll be a change to how booster ships work (ongrid boosting and no offgrid boosting)

2) The NPC stations will charge a docking fee

3) The taxes for putting up buy and sell orders will be 0 here (with accounting and broker 5), regardless of standings.

I'm guessing that's what is going to happen.

Yaay!!!!

If there are multiple stations any taxes will likely depend on your standings with that faction

The only way i can see this new wormhole trade hub working is if the wormhole had a unique wormhole effect that disables weapons otherwise it will be a ghost town full of pirates. the only issue with that is the vast majority of eve players me included will most likely reject a system that is 100% safe though i could be swayed to it if the system had zero value (no belts, missions combat sites ect and the stations had no research / manufacturing (basicly no upside to the system at all for risk adverse game play)

Definitely gonna at least try and leave a JC there.

Cool idea, can't wait to see how the players make it. Thera is just an empty canvas right now..

Thera could also be a reference to Thera as alluded to by CCP Terminus on reddit.

Quote:
Somehow I'm guessing this quote from the livescience article (http://www.livescience.com/4846-eruption-thera-changed-world.html) is the rough idea CCP_Terminus is going for here:

"Thera didn't just blow a massive hole into the island of Santorini – it set the entire ancient Mediterranean onto a different course, like a train that switched tracks to head off in a brand new direction."

For more detail (or TL;DR of the article) - the volcanic explosion of Thera lead to the end of the Minoan civilization and the rise of the Greeks in the Mediterranean.

So the founding (or existance?) of Thera is supposed to lead to the downfall of the Empires, which dovetails nicely with the whole capsuleer empires w/ stargates stuff that we're headed towards. Nice use of slightly obscure history CCP.

Thera was the name of the current island of santorini in the mediterranian, it was a major centre of power, culture and trade.
Some believe it was the source of the legends of atlantis,
The island exploded in one of the greatest cataclysmic events in human recorded history, causing the collapse of multiple civilisations, and resetting power in the mediterranian for ever.

The world as we know it would be a very different place if that had never happened.
Possibly the greatest catastrophy for humanity ever.
Your opinion may differ.

CCP may be choosing the new name in reference to this.

Or rearranging letters.Shocked

I know my vote is on them using the good stuff.CoolCoolBig smile

Remember that the CCP name guru likes layers, multiple layers that make sense at multiple stages.

'Thera' obviously references the Thera Eruption, which destroyed Minoan civilization and brought about the rise of the Greek States. Odds are this is indeed ancient in that the Thera Eruption likely didn't happen in our time, but to ancient civilizations-- which is to say it could be referencing the seeming collapse of a coherent Sleeper empire, the collapse of Terran-centered civilization in New Eden, or even the collapse of Terran civilization depending on what happened there, and where the EVE Gate was relative to Earth.

The other layer is of course the Thera/Earth/Heart anagram. It's a small one, but it does inform the other reading.

We'll have to see what Thera looks like once we're in it. If it happens to have eight (nine? ;) ) planets, the third of which is Terran, etc, etc, then we may just happen to be looking at Sol.
