would like to see a fix for disconnection issues

Eve has always reacted poorly to connection issues. Sometimes it can cause huge losses, other times minor annoyances.
In my experience, when a connection is interrupted, usually you simply get 'socket closed', your ship warps off to safety (assuming you don't have a siege module active) and you simply restart the client.
But sometimes, and more often than I think is reasonable, eve reacts differently. The client will become unresponsive. Modules continue cycling, but charges are not being consumed, npcs are not dying, etc. When the connection is re-established, chat windows will start moving again, and damage reports start reporting, and it seems that eve pretends that everything is all fine and dandy, however it never fully recovers. turrets never stop to reload, the market never loads, and worst of all, the 'quit game' button NEVER works. the only option that I've found at this point is to open task manager, and force close eve.
There will always be network issues that occur from time to time in an online game, no matter how great your internet, computer, connection etc etc is. It is just the nature of the beast. But I would like these issues to be handles appropriately, especially when they are a guaranteed occurrence. and ESPECIALLY when people have so much time invested into assets (one of the greatest features of this game).
anyhow, just sharing my thoughts.

In other words pending requests shouldn't back and and crash/hang up the client is the complaint here.

Also Might we have an option to set our prefered timeout time? Maybe we wanna only give it 10 seconds before giving up instead of something like 30 seconds or whole minutes.

Hi Chip,

what makes you think it is a general issue with a general solution ?

Did you try a simple trick of playing eve using a different internet connection ?

From what i can tell (having little details and pulling info out of my backdoor) it looks like your internet connection is very unstable and you run into timeouts very often.

The problem isn't so much the game DCed (though we'd always like less of that) but more of how the game handles a potential DC mid-timeout with gun not reloading and market not loading after connection has since been re established.

i've played on and off since early 2011 and moved quite a few times in the last 4 years, so i've had various ISP to play over.
and honestly i haven't had too many connection issues recently. But this has been an issue often enough over those years.

I do think it has a general solution, as i've played a fair amount of online games, and this is the only one that seems to react so poorly to a hiccup in connection.

But no i'm not a network administrator, genius game programmer or in any other specialized line of education where i can throw out a problem solving string of code as a solution.
I just think there must be some way to force close the client when communication stops for an extended period of time, without using task manager.

Now i get the issue. It is the long waiting time when a disco happens but the client is still in 'waiting' mode. Had that happen a few times myself, almost exclusively when i was using a mobile broadband connection.

I had my ethernet cable pulled from the router and walked over and plugged it back in. Stayed connected. Other times I've been had the socket closed and nothing was wrong.

Packet loss in a complex client-server state-machine can be messy.

Unfortunately, the server cannot trust the client for anything other than requests - it can't trust your state information because of hacks.

So in the case of endless cycling modules (and probably various other things), I'm edumacatedly guessing what happens is this:

You request to turn on a module. (click)
Client sends request to server
Server responds, "yes, you may turn on" and records the action.
Your client receives the response and starts showing glowy green pulses and circles around the module.
You request to turn off module. (click)
Client sends request to server.
Server responds, "Ok, turning off - stop the glowy circly things" and records the action

Glowy circles continue to spin...

You request to turn off module again. (click)
Client sends request to server.
Server responds "Ya big dummy, it is already off - ignored!" and does nothing.

Server responds "Ya big dummy, it is already off - ignored!" and does nothing.
Glowy circles continue to spin...

etc etc...

Sure, it'd be nice if the server actually sent "ya big dummy, its already off - sure, go ahead and stop glowy cirlces if you think they're on" to your client instead of ignoring you.

Maybe there's another reason they didn't do it that way - maybe not. I'm betting whomever wrote that bit of code doesn't work there anymore and no one wants to touch it though :)

Yes. CCP should distribute Disconnection Tissues for your disconnection issues.
