historically, asymmetry has been one thing. but current opinions can be something totally different. or the same.

Pestilen, your ire is misdirected. The issues are ones that are endemic to computing. not EVE art teams' skill or work ethic.

I agree with asymmetry of onboard systems, like telemetry and sensors... antennae and cameras.

a good example of tasteful asymmetry is the nose of the Apache. The Aeon, especially next to the Nyx... i dunno. but changes like the scorpion and the condor are reassuring..

hoping the blackbird is nice and sexy too.

the pontoons on the wings of the moa were a little off-putting.

What about unpopular opinions?

I don't judge people by their race, religion, color, size, age, gender, or ethnicity. I judge them by their grammar, spelling, syntax, punctuation, clarity of expression, and logical consistency.

I've often thought when they release a new model for an existing ship it should apply only to new builds onwards. That way old models would gain value and collectibility. When they remodel your ford car your old one doesn't automatically upgrade, and old models become sought after classics. I know 'databases etc yadda' .....would be cool though?

and it would be a performance nightmare if we would do that

I am calling shennannigans here. If your rendering engine sucks that bad, maybe it needs some work.

Your scene polygon count can't possibly be very high. Textures? No.

Having a few more *potential* models and textures to load into the rendering pipeline for a given gate/jump doesn't change hardly anything. It would only increase video card and/or cpu load if both models were present on the screen. If this isn't true for your engine, fix the root of the issue.

Polycount isn't a issue these days.
Drawcalls are and textures are a ***** in this matter.

ping pong we have a winner but its not only that, it`s maintaining every asset what would eat our time too

I would believe this *IF* other products on the market were not displaying 10X the graphics complexity right now.

Millennium Falcon is asymmetrical, and it looks awesome. The Basilisk and old Moa... not so much. I was hoping for the Moa/Gila to retain a little bit of it's asymmetrical junkyness though. So I could still feel like I'm flying a bit of an old heap, like the Millennium Falcon. It turned out rather sleek. And too bird-like. EVE already has way too many ships that resemble birds too much. bok bok

There is also symmetry along a different axis, like the catalyst or B-Wing. I wouldn't mind seeing more of that.

Overall I think asymmetry can be very attractive, but it is also harder to pull off compared to symmetrical designs. Asymmetrical designs in EVE either go too funky with it like the Basilisk, or are too restrained with it. You can hardly notice the asymmetry on the Vexor for example, so it kind of looks like a mistake, they might as well make it totally symmetrical.

Millennium Falcon is only slightly asymmetrical, and mainly for the cockpit, like steering wheels on the left side (which is the right side).

MFW the Millennium Falcon is euro spec.

Bunnyvirus, do you lot use the foundry suite of things... Nuke, Mari, etc.

I've started an introductory Maya course, among other art courses. This is you know, the best I got right now for space ships, posting for your amusement. I made pew pew noises and imagined it was an updated cormorant.

it's not great, but swords were last week, and primitives was just a couple weeks before that. I have a habit of using Tri's and I'm sure I've missed an Ngon or two.

Subdivide it / add edge loops or crease edges and will look ok.

crease edges... is that like replacing edges with a surface (thin face)? edges strike me as harsh, and something tells me edges are a bit sloppy.

and subdividing, is that just for more control over the forms?

I'll keep an eye out for those terms, I'm about to attempt a sentinel from The Matrix as my 5 week project. the prof showed us how to repeat geometry along a curve, both with the extrude tool and also using animation snapshots. I'm excited.

I'm totally in love with 3D at the moment, actually. professionals in the field are pretty much my heroes right now.

Seriously, what is with the constant and open bashing of CCP around here? You ask a legitimate question which a lot of us have been wondering, only to follow it up by some sort of insult or lack of faith or whatever you want to call it. Not very nice in any case.

Try being nice and understanding instead of acting like a spoiled little brat. As a gaming community we are blessed with an involved developer like CCP. But only very few people seem to actually appreciate this. Cut them some slack, it's not like they are withholding this content for the sake of being evil...

that's an easy one. some people see negativity over certain things, and assume it means that's the popular thing to do.

edit: ok, ok, honesty time. it could also be the fact that devs are not exempt from being forum PVP'd.

really wish they would take the opportunity to come back with something witty, like Falcon does. They're in power after all.

but not snarky like greyscale's dev feedback.
