Karkur's Little Things blog is always like Christmas, and just as highly anticipated. Opening it is as exciting as ripping the giftwrap off the presents, and unlike Christmas, it never disappoints!

Or you could do what she does and do a QOL item.

Can probably start with the siphon unit detection issue.

Some people don't understand the concept of a team. But it would be nice to fix the siphon detection issue :)

Added a Booster Timer that clearly shows you how much time you have left on your active boosters, their benefits, and side effects. This timer is displayed next to other timers such as Weapon and Limited Engagement timers.

Could the polarisation effect from jumping through the same wormhole get one of these handy cool down timers too? I'm a real fan of these since coming back to the game and they really help to keep a track of what is going on and at the moment the only notice you get that the time isn't up is when you try to jump.

edit: and whilst i think about it... can we have a radial similar to the "scanners" and "camera controls" added to the "cargo hold" button to the left of the capictor/hp rose doohicky (what do you call that thing btw?) so we can access ore hold, cargo hold, corp hanger etc. without r-click? (so cool having ore holds on miners these days!! been away for a while and it's nice to see some improvements :D)

Hoping that the Advanced Search has the element of By Volume in the drop down in addition to Name, Number of Jumps and Number of Items.

By having Volume in the columns it only sorts within the station and has minimal usefulness. By adding it to the drop down you can select the right ship, look at assets along the way and scoop up those regional buys.

Also, hoping that there is an 'expand all' on the Personal Asset list...it's quite tedious for a regional buyer to click every every every every every station to see what has accumulated in each one.

While we are at scanner tab, can we have an option to switch off deployed probes window in it? Taking window space and in most cases is unnecessary.

Also while we're at it, could you please set the default size of scanner probes to 8AU when launched?

This is great. No, really. All these additions in this devblog and all the others about Phoebe are great. It feels like the game is evolving.

Oh, and +1000 for the advanced search tooltip. I remember that the option is there, but somehow missed to look what it can do every time I search for stuff. Smile

The thing with the d-scan shortcut is a bit tricky, since it seems to be so trivial to add.
To be honest, I was about to add the shortcut at one point, but after talking to some people we decided not to go with it.
It's a bit expensive on the server, and we don't want people to spam it. And I'm not talking about people purposefully spamming to bring the node down or anything like that.
But if you have a shortcut, you can program your fancy keyboard to press it regularly, which we don't think is unlikely a bunch of people would do. So let's say you have done that, you are in a system where there is no one but you, and you would normally not be d-scanning regularly, but the keyboard is just doing its thing, and you keep scanning.
Now let's say you have dozens of people in a fleet. Normally you would not have everyone in the fleet doing d-scans every 3 seconds (or whatever), but since they have programmed their keyboard to do that, they are, which can make the hamsters cry.

So basically, we are taking the safe approach here, and don't want to risk server performance by adding the shortcut as the system stands now.
Hope that makes sense Smile

Understandable.

Have you perhaps considered some other method for improving quality of life with dscanning? I know for me personally that the necessity of constantly manually clicking that button while I'm in any situation where pvp is a possibility is one of the biggest negatives and something that regularly discourages me from flying solo. For me it ends up making pvp feel like more hassle than it's worth.

Some kind of passive mode would be nice, that works as long as you have the dscanner window open and mode selected. To balance it, I'd think that the passive mode would only list a general 'there's something in range' and that you'd have to manually hit the scan button to actually find out what that thing is (type of ship etc). I don't know if that's really feasible without itself causing server issues, though.

And I suppose some people would still think that a 'nerf' though, since it'd make it harder to get the jump on people.

Wait, wait, wait. I thought designing game mechanics around bots was against CCP policy. I thought the way you dealt with bot users was to ban them. What's going on here? Every time you make a game change and some troll says you did it to discourage botting, a Dev says "Game developers make changes to improve the game for players. Security takes care of the bots". Now, all of a sudden the Devs are changing (or not changing) the game due to bots?

If someone uses an automatic keystroke entry system, you ban them. You do not make the rest of us suffer because of what they might do.

We are not talking about designing game mechanics, we are talking about a UI change that could have much bigger consequences than you first might think. I'm not sure what our stance on fancy keyboard is to be honest.

Then maybe you should check it out. My understanding is: You can have a fancy keyboard, you can have fancy software, but if you USE them to control the game with automatically entered keystrokes (that is, a keystroke that is entered into the game even though the user is pressing nothing), its a bannable offense.

I understand the consequences to the server due to bot use is large. The sever use per user dropped significantly when CCP started dealing with the bots. But please don't stop improving game life for real users because someone else might bot.

I did not stop improving the game, I moved onto working on something else that was also really frequently requested but less risky.Smile
