Sounds to me like you're on the wrong end of the spectrum. Of course the game isn't gonna be fun when your a low SP character trying to take charge and constantly getting owned by the vets.

My advice? Find a corp or group of skilled capable pilots and get them to show you how to play. And when you get to the point where your the one dishing out the pain then its a whole new game.

I started a few years after my friend but we got in with a good crowd and I started roaming with a ****** rifter (while training for a wolf), we've been on some crazy adventures and survived situations we never should have. But thanks to their experience and skills it was possible, and from that I tried to learn to do the same.

Where's that big EVE flow chart listing all the possible trades? Look at that, find one you like, join a corp that performs that trade.

I find what keeps me coming back to eve is the people I play it with.

Eve is the dark haired, totally hot emo gothchild of the gaming community

That's about right. Find a good factional warfare corp that knows how to get kills. Once you learn how to make an income by taking others stuff the game gets better too.

But if you are going to leave; could I have your stuff please?

Foxstar, thank you for your reply but my problem is not making ISK I have plenty of that.

My references are to the game style employed thus far; gate camps mainly.

However, I have taken some great advice and I now intend to look towards relocating my three guys to the 'outer' zones, away from all the trade hubs and such. I also intend to give wormholes a try and seek new players who are similar mindset to myself - those who fancy challenges and not one shotting people when theres 30 of you and one of them...

So after 9 months on my THIRD attempt at playing Eve and some 7 mil SPs I decide to stop grinding my three subscriptions and get "out there".

I enrolled one guy into FW, the second and third guy joined a null sec corp.

FW = Agent finder.. check station, enemy militia hold.. next... repeat... finally found a station. Fly to said station for FW agent missions avoiding all the fleet gate camps. Jump to "node" kill NPC = fleet warp in = dead. Join FW clan, "roam" around finding someone who is in exact same boat as above. Run across fleet similar to your own in numbers = leg it / they leg it.

Null sec : Pandemic Legion clowns gate camping every gate out of high / low sec into null. Get past them. More gate camps with 3-4 bubbles. Get past them, spend ages scanning down target. Kill said target in under 10 seconds combat / target warps in mates = die. Everyone flies round in either stealth or interceptors to avoid said camps.

High sec : Mine = CODE gank you. Don't mine but fly a mission in a Faction ship = someone in a Catalyst ganks you.

Luckily, my two previous attempts taught me not to fly what I cannot afford to lose so no loss enraged me at all.

Of course, the other aspect is grinding missions etc but with six billion across 3 characters, not really much need to mine etc which leaves me with PVP but see above.

Hopefully I will get a legit reply amongst the trolls but who knows, I am more asking why I should keep my three subs active than I am moaning.. surely I am missing the fundamental reason to play this?

Many thanks.

you just got hooked up with the wrong bunch of folks

My main ninja harvests booster gas from every inch of null, and to tell you the truth the only part of null that really has anything going on is the providence/catch regions. down there the alliances have built a mini high sec zones.. placing stations in most systems, maintaining a well stocked and competitive markets, and staying on patrol for pirates and war enemies. They also had the only real Sov war going on for the last 6 months - - - everywhere else in null is empty systems with hardly used renter space while the powers that "control them" only show up in massive force whenever they need to defend something there. usually they're off gate camping, harassing pve players, or sticking their noses in provi's/hero's business because they arn't clever enough to think of something better to do. - alot of this may change after the next update with the limit of how far capital fleets can wonder around.

and for FW it's again just a bad corp, the guys my alt is with do take on fleets equeal to us, and even some that out number us by 2-3 if we think our fit's can work through them - sometimes we're right, sometimes we're not... the main point of frig FW is to lose some cheap ships while trying to build more in kill mails.... also look out for alliance sov pushes such as Burn Huola http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9v-sdKVBn4o - these can get as big of some of the null battles, but in more small independent fights, instead of one big battle and are a lot of fun.

First, youre way ahead of like 90% of the new players that join EVE. You came here asking questions and getting your feet wet in aspects of the game you can get into. So good job so far.

EVE's draw is the learning curve. No other game ive found is as complex and rewarding once you grasp the strategy and meta. What counters this or that. Also the ability to really customize your ship. The fitting alone has probably sucked more of my rime than pvp sometimes. Trying to make that perfect solo fit.

Solo work takes a lot of time to learn, and u will die quite often. Ive been playing since 07 and only in the past year have i really dove into solo pvp. If you want to speed up the learning curve watch some "eveiseasy" videos on youtube. They may help you understand the meta and give you examples on how to avoid blobs or how to engage them without dying. Sometimes it helps to see more skilled players play so you can see how its done. Gives you a good foundation for you to grow from.

Good luck. Fly safe

Eve is partly about experience. Without experience you don't really know whats what. Fighting in eve is about strategy and tactics. There are plenty of ways to avoid gatecamps plus you must understand that gatecamping is not always about killmails, it is a viable tactic and something that can be countered. Likewise, throwing numbers at your enemy is also a viable tactic and is also one that can be countered. Learning to be patient can get you a good fight too. A lot of fighting is outwitting your opponent.

First time in eve, I just explored and ventured into low sec with a velator and met some folks.

imo finding that first group of experienced players willing to help you out is both absolutely key to your enjoyment of the game and potentially very hard. It only happened to me by complete chance.

If the group you're in doesn't do stuff you like, try elsewhere.

EVE has a plethora of tools available to you to avoid all the trials and tribulations you're experiencing.

If you're tired of getting killed by gate camps take steps to scout your way through. Use your characters to support each other instead of spreading them out all over space. There are ships that can cloak, and ones that are immune to bubbles and even ones that can cloak AND are immune to bubbles.

You could try making some friends and sharing important intelligence with each other. Corps and alliances typically have intelligence channels where you can ask, hey whats happening in this system, does anyone have any eyes there.

Regarding pvp and getting better or even fights... research the corps you apply to or join, don't join the corps that are particularly risk averse. Seek out ones that like to take on greater odds/challenges. Better yet, help the corp you are in find the fights you're looking for. Spend time scouting around, learn the area you inhabit and who the other inhabitants are. Look at their kill boards, where do they get their action, what kind of odds do they face.

There's no question EVE can be a very daunting game, but the tools are out there. The most successful people in-game use and take advantage of those tools, like second nature. Some people thrive in such an open ended game, they plot and scheme and plan while others feel lost without linear steps or a clear path to follow. Ultimately EVE is what you make of it, very little in this game will be spelled out for you. The closest you may come to that is finding a corp with solid leadership that spells out those steps/action for you.

Simple solution.

1) Drop corp.
2) Join PL.
3) Be one of the assclowns camping high sec gates.

If you can't beat 'em, bro, join them.

As from the looks of how you post, you will quit...That ISK, can I have it. You can hand over the stuff to other people.

OT:

You are lacking motivation and just fall for all the whining around there. I've been in the exact same situations as you and haven't found any of the downsides you are looking for.

How, by knowing people you are playing with and doing it right.

I don't know which side of FW you joined, but who ever you were with it sounds like you were doing it wrong. Feel free to drop into Aideron Robotics, we will set you up and show you the potential of FW.

If you STILL don't like it, there are always other things.

If you don't want to have to work around things like 30 man gatecamps blowing up brand new characters just because, or don't like that people often refuse to fight without a distinct advantage, you may be looking for a more structured game than EVE.

As to the need to find people to play with to enjoy the game, I'm sure it helps, but I've been playing EVE on and off for years now, almost always solo. If any of the myriad activities the game offers actually interest you, you'll find yourself engrossed in something, friends or not.
