Hey
So I have been out doing missions to get some ISK running. But I was wondering about the faction, I am currently running missions for Caldari, which makes other factions not very happy about me. I've read that if I go under -5.0 that they will start shooting at me.

Is my best bet to circle around and do missions for all of them?
Is it even possible to be friends with them all?

Its true if you go below -5 to any faction you no long can enter their space unless the navy will chase you.

To avoide this you can decline faction missions twas any of the empire factions, Gallente, Minmatar, Amarr, Caldari, Anmatar. If i rember right no other factions are in high sec, and its only those navies who will hunt you.

You can also train up Diplomacy so you can go -8 with any faction and still enter their space

But no matter what I will still get storyline missions which affects my standings so it will only prolong the process.

What happens if I do quests in caldari first, complete my first story, move to amar, do the same thing. etc until I have done it with all factions. Will the standing gain just cancel each other out so I am left in the same position as I started? or will I get a small overall increase?

Storyline missions provide (as of the last time I checked when I used to run storylines) approximately twice as much standings gain as loss. So if you 'trade' storylines, you will gain standing overall.

Edit: Also, Caldari and Amarr are allies. You'd want to run Gallente missions if you also run Caldari.

You will have to grind for a long time to really **** off another faction and putting just a couple hours in to diplomacy will clean that up quite a bit. I used to play the game, dodge faction missions to avoid the standing hits and such. Turned out it just wasn't worth my time. If your goal is to make everybody happy, it'll take a while, my goal ended up being to get standing high enough to stand up a POS for the corp I was in, now that has all fallen apart, I suppose I could go make friends with the other factions, oh wait, I'm in FW now :)

Oh so if I at some point join faction war I will just lose all my standing with the other factions?

If so I am worrying about nothing I guess xD

Every faction has an opposing faction, and the opposing faction has -5 standing. So you can do as many non-faction-kill storylines as you want and the lowest you will ever go is -5.0 standing. Training Diplomacy 1 level would then prevent you from being shot at.

HOWEVER, if you ever accept any faction kill missions, you will go below -5.0 eventually (rapidly if you accept more kill missions).

Destroying structures is far bigger of a standings hit than destroying ships.

I decline all kill missions, even if they are storylines, against Empire factions and friends (like Thukker & Mordus Legion). Mission briefings always have a faction icon if it is against that faction; no icon means it is against an unaffiliated faction that you can freely destroy without standing loss. I do Amarr and Caldari missions, and Sisters of EVE to keep Gallente and Minmatar from hating me. SoE is currently my highest corp standing.

my goal is -10 to gallente and minmatar. seriously its not like I ever even want to go to their space, and if I do I have alts.

and ffs look at tag prices, killing smelly minmatar and frog eating gallente is totally worth it!

At -5.00 down to -10.00 Faction standing, Navy NPC's will attack.

Yes it's possible to have positive standings with all Empire Factions.

Completing 16 regular missions and storyline for each of the main Empire Factions will work to help keep the standings equal.

To quickly repair negative Faction standings, check out the 'Plan'.

No, but when you are in Faction Warfare the enemy navies will fire on you regardless of your standing.
