I'm glad to see this question come up. Basically it gets asked a lot but threads are very quickly locked because it has been talked to death, years ago. However I think years have gone by, Eve is evolving, and it's important that people who want this (like me) keep asking the question.

I think the answer lies in the decisions of the past as well as the current and future environment. Basically, after the Captains Quarters were introduced and the various debacles followed, CCP shifted from a process of innovating the game (adding whole areas such as WH space and entirely new types of ships and gameplay as well as the CQ) to one of modest innovation and massive refinement. Basically, people wanted CCP to quit introducing new stuff and fix stuff that was broke. CCP has been doing that for years now, and will continue to do so for about another year. Further, and I know CCP doesn't like us to mention other games, but it's undeniable that some pretty stiff competition will be showing up in 2015-2017. This competition does not have an aversion to avatar based play. So those who say the door to the CQ will never open, I say you are wrong. Here's what I think will happen.

This year and most of 2015 will show absolutely no attention to avatar play at all. We will continue to get modest innovations (blighted weapons, T3 destroyers) and heavy concentration on repair, update, and balance (ship changes, graphics and UI improvements, sov fixes, corp/alliance fixes) ultimately preparing the game for the player-built star gates which will be the sign of what I call 'Eve 2.0.' Eve 2.0 proper will be an Eve where players can open new areas of space through a range of different types of stargates, some may be permanent routes to WH space, some being gates from one part of New Eden to another, some being gates to new systems or constellations randomly generated to provide various safe zones and points of conflict for people wanting to access them, and some gates will lead to new constellations and regions designed by CCP that will include unique types of PvE content. I think the player built gate thing is going to be a really big deal and will change Eve. But that's just Eve. Just about when Eve 2.0 hits one other game will have had a bit of time to get off the ground and another will just be hitting the market. Eve may have a rocky period for a bit before and right at Eve 2.0 as our players try out other games. However, Eve 2.0 is not going to be just Eve.

In 2015 and 2016 Project Legion and Eve Valkyrie will hit the market. Particularly with Legion there CCP has said that there will be non-combat 'hangout' areas for players to interact. These CCP games will come out and take on a life of their own, but certainly what CCP has that the competition doesn't have is a well-developed universe with an established game that already has a history of ambitious expansion and interaction ala DUST (didn't quite work but was a grand learning experience). Certainly Legion and Valkyrie will evolve towards integrating with Eve. Fanfest already mentioned plans to move to an integrated sign in where you can log in on the launcher and select an Eve character or Valkyrie or Legion character. Many seemed to understand that the day would come where you could log in to your Eve character and play Legion or Valkyrie. Certainly the games will integrate and technology from the other games will be ported to Eve, and avatar play will be reborn.

Sorry for the wall of text. The short answer is, the door to the CQ will open in 2017, after you've been playing Legion and Valkyrie for a while.

That's my prediction.

Did not read all replies.

ATM the answer is... later. CQ/WiS is on perminate sleep.

Future vision implies this may change. As the 1-3-4 might change it (1 log in, 3 games, 4 levels of consciousness) but for now as Hilmar said:

Eve is a ships in space game, so we are going to focus on that, ships in space.

I'd love to see more WiS stuff added, and maybe we will, I kinda have the urge to play space Barbie. And well SC and ED just don't appeal to me. Eve fan boi till I die.

I agree with this. CCP right now is focused on core game play, and improving that game play. ED will be out sometime next year, SC will be out in 2016.. or the far side of never, whichever comes second. Valk with luck will hit next year, legion if it gets green lite (come ON ccp green light it already!) will hit the end of 2015 maybe 2016, after they get there feet under them, ccp will integrate. Unless they suddenly change their minds and integrate form day one. Then I think WiS will be relooked at and a 4th title will be added to new eden. If ccp can make it past the small storm of competition that's coming, I think New Eden (as it will no longer just be eve) will be on VERY good footing.

The good news is that Eve players tend to remember the names and passwords of their unsubbed accounts. Eve players tend to come back. And if you think these new games are going to hit the market without bugs and limitations, you're crazy. I think the space gamer player base will do some messing around with other games, and a lot of us will be playing more than one of them, though maybe with fewer Eve accounts to keep our monthly budgets constant. However, while the daily logins may dip quite a bit for a while I think Eve will come out on top. At no point have any of the other games stated an interest in creating an environment where players are free to be psychopaths. Eve will always be unique. Eve will have a decade head start in balance and gameplay. And I really do think that the 'multiple integrated games, one comprehensive universe' model that Eve will evolve into will offer a superior product to any competition. Therefore I think unused accounts will get resubbed in the long run. I just hope the storm doesn't hurt too bad. Our devs need their annual bonuses to stay happy.

I disagree on one point. If done correctly, a 'New Eden' game (Eve, dust/legion, valk, 4th game) could be a game changer.

And by the looks of it, ED and SC will be F2P so it would be very simple to play both or all three with no issues.

And I see eve dropping in some subs for maybe a few months, till people who have ran the same landing sequence 30000 times gets bored and comes back home. They ALWAYS come back to eve. even if its for one more spurt to go 'yea this still sucks' the come back.

I'm pretty sure WiS got the kibosh.

Even if it didn't, I'd need to not look like a zombie in CQ before I'd be interested in it.

As long as any in-station interaction between avatars is exactly like playing Rust.. im all for it.

I agree with that WIS should mean that stations aren't necessarily safe anymore.

As for the other games I'm not leaving to play them. SC is a carebear paradise in the making. ED looks good but I'm getting too old to be good at twitch based dog fighting.

It is a fact though that CCP are scared of the avatar based competition. Don't we all remember those terrible trailers we had in the run up to X afterbirth... hardly a space ship in sight.

I was disgusted by the fact that we had the world's premier sci fi mmo competing head to head with an offline game by shunting out ****** cinematic trailers that for the first time ever did not depict real in game footage. Remember when we pod view suddenly become cockpit view?

it disgusted me.

Just wait for Starland Citizens: Dangerous Elites! The final death of EVE! You will be able to do emotes on a planet, in a space station, and on a spaceship.

I know this is a troll post but part of what you said is true - EVE is just pew pew. DUST is just pew pew. Legion will just be pew pew. Might as well play Battlefield, cause it's pew pew but without the time sink, grind and other annoyances, sub fee, or UI bukkake of CCP games.

People may be laughing and raging about space barbies, but those examples you gave do prove theyre is money is the concpt of what CCP had with the WiS project. Aparently a spacegame with avatars is now a few years later not as unfeesible as some l33tsies made it out to be and i know a few of thos who were opposed to Wis who now have heavily invested in the "pretty picture space ship webshop with a hangar game at a later date"

But i guess scamming is allowed and they were just doubling CP's isk :/

Fine.... go pew pew yer reposed ******* off....pew pew....

Even kicking my arms around a station slipping on the blood might be more interesting than selecting orbit, activate weapon, activate yawn, watch mono coloured red rainbow dance.

LISTEN TO AURA, EVEN SHE IS BORED.

It's not even pew worthy and yet we pew. That is dedication.
Eve Dogfights Utube video says it all.
Yes Valkyrie when integrated with the game and Dust when integrated with the game could be neato. Waiting for when I can play it on my antiquated lap top.

And yes a large universe of space baubles is no small feat, but if you can't touch the baubles .... can't land on them or explore them...just dock, purchase, undock....

(climbs the highest soapbox and shouts)
If the pew is not pew and there is little else but pew mine or make do we only play this game only because our avatar pic's somehow all come out looking like glossy alt culture fashion mag cover shots.

Not to froth uncool perpetual newbie questions upon y'all...... line break...... line break....... with dubious grammar to boot pronounced in a Canadian accent but hey Cool Reposie ,,,, you did.....ummm.....line break.....take the time to answer......
so is that like..... denial?

It's just in CCP's interest to add interest..... pretty sure the avatar inter action in Eve will reflect the relative maturity of the game compared to others..... minus the kinda reactive forum feedback trying to out sardonic one another.....

I know this is not a new request or question but perpetually glancing off EVE, afraid that it really will suck me in forever as it always starts to do, I still do not know the answer why it hasn't happened yet?

My question?
When will I be able to walk my character out of a Capsuleers Quarters and into a station and sit down with other capsuleers or otherwise interact, character avatar to character avatar.

It seems such an obvious maturation of the game adding new depth and thus attracting a greater fan base

Eve has fallen behind toony upstarts like Star Trek Online which, on that free game, I can walk around planets and stations remarkably beautifully rendered and explore or socialize or if need be, fight.

The Emotes interface allows my character about 100 preset actions from blowing a kiss to flipping a coin to saluting.

I can interact with my environment....its pretty cool.....but its still Trek.....it's not Eve with it's swishing avatar glory....seriously look how your Avatar walks in a station guys..... that's called a camel walk in Modelling ramp class not that I would know..... "Blue Magnum"!

For all it's swishy glory, EVE is still my game of choice...... but there is only so much interest in pounding another Gurista or in licking another wormhole..... sooner or later..... we all want dinner first.

Part of what makes EVE great is it allows us another life...... making that other life more believable and seeable would only heighten the attraction to EVE and bring in more more players revenue streams as Capsuleers adorn their lives and living rooms with items

Like I said, I know this is not knew but I can't seem to find the thread for it.

If someone could amend this - appreciated.

And hey while I am here,

The Star Trek Online game has done a very good job of providing incentives to purchase in game improvements that do not really amount to pay to win.

Since eve is my prefered game..... because coolness is always prefered...... just saying CCP..... take a look and start copying from all those that copied you.

......

And finally a repeat of my Space Bauble rant.

When will planets have gravity....when will I be able to burn up a ship in the atmosphere or even just land on one and walk about. Why are planets just space baubles.

If DUST514 is supposed to be that .....a) I don't have a console and B) its as limited in its scope as EVE original is... pew pew no shopping for new shoes

Considering the relative maturity of this game and the players who make up this community..... it seems bizzare that we are confined to quarters.

I am
as always

A great EVE fan...

CCP if you would like to fly me up to Iceland I will be glad to lead the avatar and planetary interaction development team.
UK will also do.

The low and null sec luddites don't want it so CCP won't do it...yet.
