Do bubbles set 50km past a gate drag you into them. I just got ganked in 0.0 as when i tried to warp to gate from my bookmark 100km away. It warped me 50km past them into a corps bubble. Or is this normal?

It's normal. This is exactly what bubbles are for.

Drag bubbles on gates are a favourite campers tool in Null. If there are hostiles in system and you don't have a BM above or below the gate, don't warp directly to the gate. Warp to a planet or belts then on to the gate to (hopefully) avoid the bubble(s).

Any bubble up to 100km around your destination point will drag you if it stands on your direction.

Any bubble on the same grid which is correctly aligned will drag you, regardless of distance.

Eg - You can have a drag bubble 500km behind the gate, if that's on the same grid as the gate and correctly aligned then it will drag the target 500km behind the gate.

This is the first I've heard/read about this. Is there a link that explains how these bubbles work in great detail? Or did you pretty much just cover it?

Essentially, when you initiate your warp to command, your ship calculates where you are going to land.

A bubble will stop you early or pull you further as long as it is in line with your original exit point.

Also, if a bubble goes up after you have initiated warp, the bubble will not interfere with your original destination.
edit: unless the bubble is placed on top of you, then it will scramble your warp core :P

Now, a nifty thing is lets say you are 100km above a bubble, and you try to warp to a can 200km below it. It wont let you, because your warp drive will calculate the exit position @ 100km away (the edge of the bubble) and give you an error, since you need to be 150km away from your warp point.

on another note, is there an advantage for a drag bubble over one placed before the gate?

For one thing, it is easier to visually line up the bubble with the gate and the expected warp start point as both the start and gate are in front of you as you are placing the drag bubble. If there is another advantage, I am not aware.

So to build on this question. How is inline calculated? Is it based on the center of the bubble? Or any spot in the bubble? In general how far off from being inline do I have to be?

May as well throw this question up here as it pertains to bubbles as well...

A T3 cruiser with the Interdiction Nullifier subsystem. I know they can warp out from within a bubble, but are they affected by drag bubbles like any other ship?

Its the edge of the bubble - if any part of the sphere is in-line then it'll drag/pull.

For example there are systems where if you anchor a small T1 bubble (5km bubble radius) you will drag/pull from one gate. Put a large T2 bubble (40km bubble radius) in exactly the same spot and it drags/pulls from multiple gates/celestials.

Its actually easier to place a stop bubble (bubble in front of gate) than a drag bubble.

For a stop bubble you simply warp to the gate where you want to place the bubble @ 100km then anchor it. Job done.

When a hostile land in a drag bubble (behind the gate), they will have to realign back towards the gate in order to get out - providing you with a few extra seconds to obtain tackle. In some instances when using screen bubbles (in front of the gate) certain circumstances will allow for the victim to burn through the bubble and get out of web/scram range and make it to the gate - generally fail on the regarding the campers setup.

If you want to quickly deploy a screen bubble warp to zero on the ingate and then warp back to the outgate at range. Choose 'Look at' the out gate and check whether your ship is in line with the in gate (your ship will appear as a square in space) before anchoring the bubble.

Note: Consider placing jettisoned cans on the edge of the bubble towards the ingate. These will help decloak incoming cloakers landing in your bubble. Furthermore using a small t1 bubble will frequently decloak covert ops ships due to them being dragged too close to the bubbles centre.
