Is there a statistics graph or info for the number of players online over time for the Tranquility server??

Sandbox: An enclosed area filled with sand for children engaged in open-ended, unstructured, imaginative play. Also a place for cats to urinate and defecate...

Thanks for the info.......Know of any others? I guess CCP doesn't have this info available themselves.

A company, living from subscribers, doesn't have data about subscriber numbers themselve?

Chribba is pulling it from CCP's API and to make this graphs.

That graph gives accounts online, not players.

CCP has the information but they don't make it available.

Seeing as you cannot be online on the same account with two characters, isn't that the same? Account/Players?

Perhaps we should rather refer to the graphs as characters/pilots online at a given time.

Your graph doesn't show the "number of human beeings" online. Guess that's what's asked for.
5.000 humans with 6 accounts each or 30.000 humans with 1 account each.

Yes there is, as was pointed above. Server population has stuck at 2008 levels after dropping 25% compared to last year, but the good news are that it is holding there rather than keep shrinking. Bear

kind off.

The PCU count does not show server population, it just shows the average of how many of the server population are logging in on that day.

What we do not know because CCP no longer releases the information is how many subscribers there are and what the ratio of alts per account is.

They didn't in the past when it was skyrocketing... certainly won't now when they're laying the groundworks for F2P, hinting about permadeath-for-SP and other freak ideas.

I wonder how much of the present population of eve are long term players that had emotionally invested themselves in the game before 2008 which is roughly when I joined.

In other words has the game churned the newer players that have been attracted by all of the gimmicks of recent years, or if not what proportion of them have stuck around.

Eve does feel like it has a very old fan base in terms of player retention (not chronological age).

I guess what I am asking is, has ccps marketing efforts been a complete waste since 2008 as my perception is that they've tried to change the nature of the game but the players have resisted change or newer players have been co-opted into the player style and attitudes of the older player base in order to survive, whilst others have churned out of the system.

If people don't stick around I'm glad as this mmo isn't for everyone, the day that it is, it won't be worth playing.

The graphs on EVE-Offline are good but I wish you could re-size them, make a custom time frame or make them bigger.

Well, I'm a 2008 veteran who's been playing on and off, and my view is that EVE only appeals to a small minority of people who try it, and of those who feel the appeal, they tend to become long time payaers unless something goes wrong at the beginning.

My experience is that some people will do everything not-PvP for 2-3 years and then they will go away rather than dive into PvP. The last time those people where called to the game was in 2011, and now they are just going away, taking their subscriptions and their new PLEXes with them (less population consuming the same amount of resource for a higher price points to dwindling supply)

CCP's response has been going full speed ahead with PvP ("giving players opportunites" in CCP lingo) which is great for the people who stays for 10 years because they engaged into PvP, but in the process CCP is losing both noobs and PvErs, and CCP is likely to miss that people in the middle term.

It would be sensible to retain the people who pay the game, rather than the people who make CCP so proud, but alas!, CCP is not exactly a competent company, and even competent human beings are prone to cater to what is emotionally loaded rather than agree to unpleasant facts.

Go figure: adding a hundred new Level 4 missions would kick the PCU back to 36,000... but CCP would not feel very proud about it, would them? This game is not WoW! How dare people pay for PvE...! Bear

CCP just looks at the accounts logged in whether the account is paid directly or via plex.

Not to CCP's bottom line. From that point of view it's all the same, except that if you lose 1 person it hurts a lot more if they have 6 accounts. Of course, if you pick up one more hard core subscriber it helps a lot more (if they end up with 6 accounts) as well.

This is likely the reason why CCP is revamping how they play test in relation to how they need to rework the new player experience.

That has always been the weakest part of EVE, and is quite likely the largest single negative factor in new player retention.

While new content of any type (including PVE) is most welcome, from a new players perspective there is plenty to do in EVE. The problem is they have a hard time figuring out how exactly to go about doing it. I have little doubt that were the numbers to be shown, most people that leave EVE after trying it do so within the first few days.

I'm sure everyone can relate to getting a friend to try EVE and having them admit they gave it up after the first attempt or two, because the mechanics didn't make sense to them compared to other games that they enjoy... which can be frustrating to us as well when we KNOW the new guy would have been great at the game.

Fortunately CCP has finally decided the way to work the bugs out of the new player experience is to actually study the issue using people "gasp" that have never played EVE before.

What a concept. Big smile

Hopefully this will bear some fruit.
