Having been out in null for a while I decided to bring my BS out to high sec in order to do a little ratting and collect some LP. This was literally just as a pastime to wait for invention jobs to complete etc, so was just doing level 3s

I think in about 7 missions I got a lousy 10m in loot and probably the same in bounties, I can get this in about 15 minutes in null, and with the nerfs in loot I ended up not bothering towards the end. Are all high sec missions this boring, are the level 4s any more challenging?

it was the most boring, lame experience I have had in game for a long time, I think i'd rather mine. Are there any missions worth doing out in high sec?

loot has barely been worth it for years. it just took the latest nerf to get most people to notice.

and no lv4s aren't any more of a challenge (outside of an initial learning curve). but its not like nullsec ratting is any challenge.

Burner missions are probably the most challenging of high-sec l4's nowadays, but even they are already receiving the whole "wiki" treatment by now, including the newest ones I'd imagine. Loot has been on a steady decline for a while and has been less than worthy of consideration where income is concerned; the only reason MTU's are not laughed at right now is simply because their autonomy and cheapness means it takes little to no effort to deploying them for a little extra financial kick. If you are looking for better income, I's stick with null rating if I were you. If you are looking for a challenge, high-sec l4's are the last place I would go for that.

"Tomahawks?"

"----in' A, right?"

"Trouble is, those things cost like a million and a half each."

"----, you pay me half that and I'll hump in some c4 and blow the ---- out of it my own damn self."

I think most people have that lame experience when doing high sec L3/L4 missions. I don't see any intention from the Devs to make the missions interesting/worth it/fun either. Instead they do nothing about it, but just make the loot even worse and add a burner mission variant that is completely offset to the rest of the missions. I always skip the burner missions cos It's all frigs missions, and non for BC or BS and I heard the loot drop is not that spectacular either.

Yes there are. The most interesting level 4 missions are in the HighSec-system of Poitot, you should take your best (most expensive) battleship and go visit. As someone who was in NullSec for a while, the HighSec-dangers of Poitot should be no problem for you.

Just set a course and blindly go in, have fun!

At the end of the day any PvE activity becomes tedious and boring after you learn the limited tricks it has to offer. The best you can do is find the one that suits your isk requirements and (in my case) limited attention span.

La 'I'm a scientist' Nariz would beg to differ with you.

He has scientifically demonstrated that whilst null-sec folk can only earn, in effect, pocket change, those who run missions in hi-sec can easily earn over 100m isk per hour.

Hit him up in-game and I am sure he will be kind enough to show you how to do it.

man he really got under your skin.

and with regards the op, you can make better isk flipping the bears running the missions than from the actual missions.

This is how you make isk doing lvl 3s.

Also, EVE missions don't scale well at all, this is mainly because lvl4 missions tend to have npc battleships where are 3s (and down) have smaller easier to kill (and less valuable) ships in them. Still, once you know what you are doing, high sec missions (3s as above and 4s for the right agent and when you have the right standings to bltiz and the skills to use the right ship) pay the same or better than any sustainable pve activity in null sec.

You can test this for yourself like I did, take a ship capable of doing both high sec lvl 4s and the good null sec anomalies in an upgraded system (Forsaken Hubs, Forsaken Rally points, Havens and sanctums) and spend an hour doing each (55 minutes in high, to leave you a window of 5 minutes to convert loyalty points into isk).

What you end up with is very close numbers after LP conversion even when you don't blitz or even use the Sisters of EVE agents. The anomalies will give you liquid isk, the high sec missions are subject to fluctuations in the market for LP store items. anomalies are also much less of a hassle, no docking up after each one, no having to change ammo types etc. Downside is in null people can come after you to kill you, interceptors and people popping out of wormholes is common (some people live in wormholes with null sec statics for the sole purpose of hunting ratters.

Incursions are better isk in the long run but there are wait times and sometimes you have to move clear across high sec.Unlike most pve, incursion isn't a 'solo' activity.

You can make just as good a 'living' in high sec as you can in null (because of the last 4-6 years of development that stripped null of much of it's individual isk making value). I know this because unlike many who post on these forums, I've tested it for myself. The best isk to be made now on an individual basis is found in low sec:

https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=323386

http://forum.eveuniversity.org/viewtopic.php?f=43&t=65348 (Faction Warfare mission running doesn't pay 600 mil/hr any more due to so many people doing it it kind of crashes the LP market, but you can STILL pull 250-300 mil an hour with nothing more than a few stealth bombers, you will die from time to time but it's still worth it, you can't make that kind of isk in null or high sec with just a frigate sized ship).

Thats all based on raw ISK earning. We all just sometimes sit docked for hours messing with different fits or just spend time with chatting and stuff. So the most efficient way to do missions is really relative when you think about that you also spend a lot of time in EVE messing around and not making any ISKs. One boat make ISKs a bit faster then the other, but in the end its really trivial and relative.

yep ... any level IV capable ship should earn a plex over two or three nights missioning without much trouble (depending on skills of course).

There is also workload to consider.

Assuming the generic "easy mode" isk generator - blitzing level IVs for SOE at lanngisi and converting the LP to probes to sell for ISK later at Ammar or Jita ignoring loot completely and leaving it for the ninjas - the sentry MJD Domi makes less ISK/hour on level IVs than my Rattlesnake but the Rattler is also very high maintenance to fly. The Domi makes slightly less but you can pretty much doze off at the keyboard, its almost as AFK as mining.

I am about to refit my Rattler with Geckos and RHML and see what it can manage blitzing IIIs. That will be interesting to compare ISK/hour,

Well, unless you also completely fit for warp speed, you will be spending roughly half your time (or even more) warping around. And the efficiency of Geckos in what basically is a trapshooting adventure for them boils down again on travel times, meaning they won't do any better than mediums when most of your lvl 3 rats are spread far from each other or the distance to the mission objective is huge ....
In summary I think there are far better options available for blitzing IIIs than the big fat Rattler ;)

Geckos are pretty awesome most of the time, but I'd probably go with sentries for a lot of mission work. even gecko travel time is a huge waste of time. and yes that warp speed thing, which is probably why I'd focus on an ishtar or mach for blitzing 3s.

I agree to you. It is lame, boring and lousy. When i have written that in General Discussions, that Eve has become boring, my posting was locked :)
