Deleting it from your hard drive and never logging in again.

Although if you post on the forums about it then it enters the realms of both PvP and comedy

In the beginning there was nothing, which exploded.

This thread is just what the game needs, yet another boring, "I'm a space ship tough guy" versus, "you're a care bear wuss"

the direct consequences what Ive seen so far of ganking miners (in highsec) is that new players, which are just started in the game. Mining is most of the time their first stop to accumulate their first ISK.

when they are then getting multiple times ganked, its for them the main reason to stop playing.

I think the ever popular 'citation needed' is appropriate here.

I also have no figures to back up my disagreement, but one: me.

When I was a new pilot, I did mine for isk. I was also ganked. It happened so quick I didn't even really know what happened. I got my killmail and was very much in the 'watdashiz' mind frame.

But I didn't quit.

I came to the forums, and instead of raging, I read threads. I learned. I had known that EvE was a dangerous place, but now it was revealed to me just how dangerous, and in what forms that peril may take.

I learned about the infamous Mr. G Fappington (my ganker) and the New Order, and I was introduced to the miner-bumping blog.

And I still didn't quit.

I kept reading and enjoyed learning about this player made game play, and I thought it was spectacular. I think this type of culture is a wonderful part of the EvE Universe. It showed this capsuleer what else there is to do in New Eden beyond gathering minerals.

I didn't quit. I tanked my ships. I enjoy the game in all it's facets. I don't know how many other pilots this story can relate to, but I doubt very highly I am completely alone.

Antimatter, now with more Nirnroots.

No, there's a counter for that, so it at least has a tiny element of competition. I bet CCP tracks it, and whoever gets to a million before downtime gets the ability to have capitals in highsec or something.

Yes, but, given the average low bar of education standards, people are happy with the misconception that 'sociopath' is synonymous with 'bad person' because it gives them an insult they can use to substitute with other insults that might get them in trouble on the forums, and the associated negative connotations of the word are enough that they think they can get a reaction. Not unlike when angry kids call you gay, or autistic.

All I know is, when I play Borderlands 2, I play as Krieg cuz he's the guy I can most relate to.

anyone know the appeal of ganking miners?

just curious

Let me go back to the original question of the OP.
in short I will answer: Because it is satisfying to be able to change/affect your playing enviorment instead of forced to play in a linear style in which you are powerless to do anything but accept like most games....riding a roller coaster.

Now let me explain
I started EvE a long time ago on another toon. A wet behind the ears noob that eventually found a decent corp to call home and learn how to play. And back in that day most corps were decent because most required a full API and background checks to the CEO to get in....you had to know someone to get your foot in the door of a decent corp or you simply did not get in. And then you had no one to talk to because EvE was a diferent beast back then. That toon so long ago, he played as a hauler for the more experienced guys in hulks without an orca picking up cans of ore and transporting them back to base as fast as he could. He wanted to be an arms dealer...a builder of ships and weapons and eventually he got the chance to do that. Fast forward a couple of months...the corp ran into trouble with a griefer from its previous corp/alliance days and I learned quickly the mechanics of can flipping....my first 4 ships lost in EvE were a BC, Cru, Dst, Frg in that order in about 10 minutes versus a t2 Frg. We (the corp) began looking for another place to live and found one but the griefer followed, yet we had made friends with the local soon to be power in that region of space.
In that region of space though there was a problem....bots roamed the Ice belts in the region, and their owners used massive Orca operation fleets to strip every single ore belt in all 7 systems within 4 hrs of DT occuring. Every so often they left a rock here or there...but it destroyed any chance of the little guys or independet miners getting rocks....let alone the harm to those trying to do industry. So the soon to be power had come up with a plan...based on the information collected by those it spoke to. A document stating the law of the land was created and its enforcers soon went out, flipping cans, bumping orcas, provoking a response to do something about us. In this time I learned how the market worked, I learned how to be an effective
Industrial supplying the gank ships, war dec ships, modules, and ammo. Our own miners began to be able to get rocks ourselves as well as the little guys once again. The monopoly of orca fleets and their botters began to really despise us and i learned the bottle neck to my production was megacyte and zydrine. Well war came our way....one that lasted 7 months in total
before the other side sued for peace because they finally eventually had enough knowing they had failed to make us leave. In short...our reign of ganking, can flipping, intelligence networking, bumping....had completely oblitereated the monopolizing of the belts in that area. We destroyed those one way or another that would not conform to the changes we were implenting. Today that place is still a hotbed of ganking, nullsec rivalry(in highsec)......but if your careful and actively playing....there is a lot of ISK to be made there for the decent miner and the beginning Industrialist.

So....whats the appeal of ganking a miner? The appeal is resource control, getting others to realize they can influence their local enviorment as long as they do something to do so instead of being in a shell. It is the sastifying crunch of a player realizing that someone has been watching him and his activity....that he is important enough for someone to do that. Reaction after a can flip or gank.....that is the beginning of the litmus test.....do you belong in this game? Are you able to adapt and survive? Can you be worth more than you are right now individually or in a group? Do you have the mental and emotional Capacity to be a capsuleer?
Because being a Capsuleer means something....in one video you see where becoming one...the person is basically killed in making their first medical clone. At that point a Capsuleer has no mother or father...in a certain respect...he/she is a test tube baby. And from that point on is shoved into a univers where they are Demi-Gods, and all morals go out the window. All Capusleers are sociopaths...not by nature...but by exsistence.
The appeal of Ganking a Capsuleer? The knowledge you are seperating the wheat from the chaff. The wheat being those few who can raise to your level of game play and play the same game everyone else. The chaff being the ones that have been weighed, measured, and found wanting to not play the game as it is meant to be played. This is not WOW, STO, Barbie dress up, SIMS, HelloKitty online, or the smurfs. There is nothing you can do in this game that does not remotely affect someone or a group in one form or another. So get used to it. Those that can not....well they can keep QQ and they will still be prey.
Welcome to my universe...HTFU or STFU because even i will not relent to go after someone that keeps crying and refuses to not learn how to play. Welcome to EvE. Do you have what it takes to survive AND become something greater than yourself?
