Hi all

3 month old player or there abouts looking to get into incursions as a logi pilot. I'm wondering which I should go for, shield or armor. Is either type of logi more popular than the other?

Cheers.

shields are far more common, the only armor group i will recommend to you is OIC, My armor fleet was on par with a lot of shield fleets but specific times mixed with our low member count and a war with another Inc group. For shields they are mixed between many groups, the most efficient ive found is TVP, ISN is very selective and there is a few racial groups like 1 for germans and 1 for russians

I don't mean to put you down, but you mean language groups, not "racial". And thanks for your reply, this is just the info I needed. Wonder what those acronyms stand for...

Great, I'll check those out. It looks like I'll go with shields, to begin with anyway. Once you've trained Logistics skill the other ones are maybe not that big of an issue.

I would strongly commend both "Warp To Me Incursions" (WTM) if you are a newer player looking to get into shield incursions, and would love to see you in "Helix Incursions" if you are intermediate + in your SP and player skills.

In order of general competence, Helix is roughly on par with ISN, though we do not have as large a player base and tend to bring newbros into fleet much more often to get them the isk to fly the sorts of ships we like.

WTM on the other hand is THE newbie friendliest community amongst the HQ capable communities. While they have fairly strict criteria about tank, this is because they expect most people in their normal fleets to be newer, and it is quite affordable in comparison with the hull itself. (i.e. they want a low grade passive deadspace on any battleship without shiny tank, and 100k ehp or darned close)

WTM is a good place to start with as a new pilot if you want to try out shield HQ.

Scimitars are more common as shield logis, however the HQ fleets do need Basilisks to.
For armor it is the Oneiros that is preferred in VGs(with the exception of mwd fleets) but Assault and HQ sites need Guardians to.

In VGs it is actually fairly even this days, I seen even days where GIP armor, OIC, IIC pub and TDF had combined more armor VG fleets up than there where shield VG fleets of channels(even with the IS boxers it is 50%/50% nowadays in VGs). For the most part it is however only VGs, only TDF can do AS and HQ fleets atm(OIC did run AS but we are to short on people for that atm).

If you want to give armor a try, there is a mailing list called "OIC - T1LCP" where you find our skill requirements for our T1 logistics Cruiser program(Execuror and Augoror) that works without a single level 5 skill(you might need a 20M 3% power grid implant without power grid management at 5). The ships can be loaned out in the focus as well when I am around(been a busy RL week for me so far).

To put shield is more common in context, between the 3-6 HQ fleets and various channels that do VG and AS you might have 300-350 or so shield pilots on grid at any given time between the Incursions. For armor it is mostly only the VG fleet of OIC and IiC pub, 1-2 VG fleets form GIP armor(if you can speak Russian) and 1-3 fleets in TDF for about probably like 60-100 pilots. However for armor the wait lists are smaller and for VG there is no performance difference, with the added benefit that most armor fleets can do the NCO site just as quick as the others, while it most shield fleets take like 1-3 minutes more for them compared to the NMC and OTA since they are mostly set up for the long range and alpha.

Edit: As for new player friendly in armor, GIP armor, OIC and IIC pub take proper fitted and sufficiently skilled T1 Logistics. GIP often uses T1 BS and I also seen BCs in her fleets, OIC even takes Cruisers, BCs and nearly all T1 BS for DPS. That doesn't mean that we don't have stuff like 2.3k DPS Vindicators or 1.538 DPS Nightmares on grid, it just means that with the higher EHP amount of 1600mm plates, cheaper armor mods and the slightly different fleet setup we can be a bit more flexible for new players than most shield fleets.

You can look up the full names of the channels here:

Most people refer to channels by acronyms, because it is easier to spell and write in chat.

Hi Jill and thanks for your response.

I've taken a peak at your OIC and I like the look of it. It so happens that I started as a Gallente and most of my skills are oriented around them, most notably Spaceship Command skills. I therefore prefer to keep training up Gallente ship skills before branching out, but I came to understand that if I wanted to get into logistics I might be much better off going shield (and training Caldari or Minmatar Cruiser to goddamn 5).

I like the look of your community and I find it especially intriguing that you take along logi pilots in T1 logistics cruisers. I would love to try it out, and I think I'll start working on Gallente Cruiser lvl 4 right away. I've been doing missions in a Navy Vexor anyway. Love my Navy Vexor.
