Saying it again, I had two ideas on that:

A)
If on the 22nd all who chose this option would have some kind of redeemable Neurosurgery that could be turned in for like 3 months, the issue would be less controversial.
People with a timer could wait before redeeming and redeem right after taking their regular remap.
People without timer could redeem any time for +1 remaps.

People with a timer >3 months do acually get a benefit if they remap right away since their timer will be shortened by a good deal (and not only a few days).

This does, however, not prevent the strange effects we saw last year (some people received MORE than one free remap...)

B)
If everything is too messy with those remaps because the code does strange things and there is only one week of time:
Replace that option for those who love character development by a number of free skill points to distribute.
Easy. Has been done before. Affects everyone the same way. Ok, maybe new characters relatively get a stronger boost, but thats the same with the other gifts that also are "more" to a newbie.

I'd suggest something around 500k SP.
Why? All this remapping is about 14 distributable attribute points (the 17 basic points plus imps always stay the same no matter what you do with or without remaps)
In theory, the BEST you can do with those points is having them produce 12 skill points per minute (10 on primary attribute, 4 on secondary).
If you are training only skills that perfectly match your attributes anyway, a remap does not do you any good.
If you are training other skills, you gain something between 0 and 12 SP per minute.
Assume it would be 6 SP on average.
6 SP/min x 60 min x 24h x 90 days for a dedicated training on some odd skill category yields 777.600 SP.
That is a reasonable amount of skill points you would gain on average from a remap - if you think you would get more, reconsider you skill plans. You might have done something wrong in your past decisions.

Now, why 500k and not 777k?
Well... freely distributable SP are worth more than better attributes, because you can assign them to skills with DIFFERENT attribute sets. And you don't have to wait 3 months.
Plus: if you already train at optimal attributes WITHOUT any additional remaps - they still come on top.

If I would be presented with the choice of having a remap OR a number of SP, I would go for the free SP if they were 500k or more.

And whatever happens, it's gifts, they come for free and I absolutely like the idea of choosing one of these packages!
Big thank you, CCP.

Make a reasonable yet awesome suggestion? Except of course for the incoming cries of anguish of anyone who already picked something else.

The remap should be +1 to your current remaps and you get to keep your current timer.

I thought that was what it would be, seemed rather logical (though a bit unbalanced compared to the many "worthless" gifts)

It pretty much priceless. I was planning on remapping for 3 months so I can get my leadership skills done.

Thanks for the update.

Wow, you guys really put yourselves in a crappy position this time.

You let the first people pick it, and then pulled it. But left the ability to pick gifts open.

Now most of your subscribers will pick a gift without knowing a remap was an option. So if you do add it back, you screw all of them over.

Or you pull the remap, and screw over any who just used a remap because you told them they could have another one. A year with the wrong stats is a huge deal.

But if you reset the picks, and someone doesn't hear about it, they lose their gift completely because of your mistake. Alot of people are go on holiday around this time. They might not check and site or forums until its too late.

You really should have just left the remap up. It would have caused you much less pain.

The hole remap thing should be a good feature, as it allows us to maximise our avatar's learning potential. however the hole mechanic of it is inconvenient sometimes.
An avatar that never remaps will only have up to 3 remaps, even if never used any, without accumulating any other, even if they're supposed to get 1 a year.
Using one and making a remap mistake will be quite inconvenient if you realised you remapped for one thing and then realised you needed a different alignment to train 1 or 2 skills that you forgot, only leading to disappointment and displeasure.
people have like 1 year to enjoy the full use of a remap and sometimes they can't fill a plan to the full extension and have something different to train and are desperate for a new remap - maybe you should reconsider the hole concept of remaps refresh ...

on a side note, CCP has done a lot a lot of work to improve the game, in the last times, but there's still a lot of work to be done.
Since the "sticky windows" bug came some expansion/ patch ago, windows still come after the mouse pointer, out of they're place, even if ccp released some fixes, it haven't fixed it completely.
but that's just one of several odd bugs, like npc's webs acting differently from player webs, slowing down acceleration, and not only reducing speed.

now, seems i missed the chance of another remap as i only found now about this ... (hey ... here something you won't get !!!)

well, how about fixing a few more bugs ? or deploy the T2 salvage fix from T1 to T2 ? now that would be a nice present ... not needed to be now, but soon ...

Allow remap to stay in redeemable items indefinitely until people want to activate and use it?

Profit.

Thanks CCP Guard.

I hadn't chosen it yet.
I want it *badly* though, on all my accounts. just hope that either you bring it back for all, or remove it for all, preferably the first option :)

Just remove the timer altogether and issue a new remap to everyone each December. You would never have to wait more than 365 days for a remap and you won't penalize anyone whose current timer is active.

I'm still kind of surprised that Remaps are not reset across the game on Jan 1st every year. Gives no advantage/disadvantage to anyone. If you have no remaps in storage when Jan 1st swings around in a few weeks time, you get 2 remaps (1 cashing in your pending 1 and 1 for the roll over to the new system) and then every year on Jan 1st you get another one.

Yes it means people with no remaps get a 'free' one and those that have 1 pending or more get only 1, but I guess that's the price you pay to set up a new system.

All in all though, thanks for the heads up with whats going on. It is appreciated CCP Guard.

You have dangled this tantalizing fruit in my face, and I have accepted that it will be mine. If you take it away, Christmas will be ruined.

On a more positive note, thanks for the update. The many recent improvements to the game and in communication make this a minor irritation rather than reason for outrage.

But don't ruin Christmas.

This is pretty much exactly what I had decided to do when I learned about the remap. Finally give me an excuse to get the fleet boost skills up to fly Sleipnir. Can't come up with enough skills to drag a remap out to a year to justify doing it and don't want to waste the time skilling them with off stats when I have other things I want to do on a good remap.
