That sickness comes because your inner ear tells that you're stationary but your visual cues say that you're moving about hence your brains end up getting mixed signals.
I'd assume that with enough exposure brains begin to separate visual stimulus from actual inner ear movement.

Correct, this is also the inverse of what Astronauts experience, their inner ear tells they're falling (free-fall) but visual says that you're not.

Repeated exposure however does help in fighting it, eventually your brain will adapt to it (albeit not always). Now at least you know what astronauts experience when they get confronted for the first time with free-fall in space.

So, do people who don't get sick from it have some kind of nerdy superpower? Because that's kind of awesome, if so.

So I played it twice at vegas, the first time the rift messed up, head tracking was not working, and I was pretty much stuck looking up the entire time. So that experience sucked. They corrected it though, but I figured i'd try the next day. So I played it again on sunday and finally got a taste, and loved it. My plans to buy a rift first day of relsease just pretty much solidified

OMG Comet Mining idea!!! Comet Mining!

I decided on buying one, within the first 5 seconds of putting it on.

But... Can you play it without the silly goggles? Because my imagination is good enough to be immersed without peripherals! It's true!

I'm too old fashioned to care about virtual reality. But I still want to pew pew ships! Plus I have a Templar Fighter with my name on it waiting for me once the game comes out and I would love to use it!

Ginger ale, or ginger extract, usually helps with game induced motion sickness.

It would severely nerf the whole game. The way you track for missiles is by following your target with your eyes and head.
Gun kills aren't easy to score, either. I don't know if there are plans to use the other control stick to look around, but for now it seems to require the Oculus.

Aside from the pricetag, which will obviously change over time, my main concerns are that it is too heavy, clunky, or odd feeling to wear for any extended period of time, and that it would feel uncomfortable after a while. Even my expensive headphones start to bug me after a while. I am glad to hear folks so committed after only a single try.. it must be amazing.

I only got to play once on Sunday but yeah it was freaking awesome. It was so weird because I had the XBOX controller, headphones, and rift in my lap. Decided to put the rift on first. Adjusted it on my head a bit and let my eyes calibrate. Started to look around the ship to check it out. Then I realized oh hey, I need headphones. So I looked down to my lap to grab them. I freaked out for a second when I realized there was nothing there. It was then equally odd trying to grab the headphones and place them on my head while not actually being able to see them.

I agree with Jarod about the game sucking without a rift. I could see how they COULD do it, but the biggest thing is why you would WANT to do it.

I expected the initial shot out of the launch tunnel to feel more real I guess. That part felt very much flat to me which is odd because I have read other reviews that said that part was awesome. However once I was in the vast expanse of space everything suddenly seemed to click. The rift and controls felt very natural and about 10 seconds into the actual fighting I had forgotten I was using a headset at all. The actual game right now seems pretty damn polished and if they released it as is for just straight PVP matches I would gladly pay for it. I can only seeing this get better. I don't normally like FPS or other shooting style games but I could see myself being very addicted to this game.

The rift hardware itself is pretty damn nice. When I first put the display on everything was really blurry. I don't know if my eyes needed time to adjust or it was my physical adjusting of the device that finally brought things into focus. I can really see this thing being the future of gaming. I am a hardcore race fan and I can't wait to play Forza with something like this!

Oh, gods..... Forza on the Oculus.

That's just even more of a reason to buy one. And, I'm glad to know I'm not just going fanboy-nuts-o on this, here. Or, at the very least, that if I am hallucinating awesomeness, I'm not the only one.

Was just thinking.... I want a compilation of gameplay footage from Valkyrie so I can throw together a video to Aces High by Iron Maiden. For some reason I just feel that song is incredibly appropriate. Maybe it's the subject matter... :)
