EVE New Citizens Q&A

I applied to join E-Uni and my application was rejected, before I even got an interview. They have a policy of not explaining the why, so I was left with a big question. I believe I followed all the instructions and I am generally an inquisitive and positive player. It was suggested to me that my player name may have been the reason. Then in the E-Uni chat room I was in, people kinda piled on that. So my question is this: Is my character name going to be a problem for me?

Let me just say first off, I'm a 32yr old manager and I'm not a child. I'm not 16 and I'm not a FPS player on voice who's constantly yelling things about people being gay, stupid, l2p etc. I realize my name is cheeky, but seriously, I didn't realize how "serious" this game is. I got a response to that of "welcome to the real world". My name comes from a cute thing my gf says instead of cursing sometimes, "butt salad". Okay, I get it; it's kind of childish. In almost any other MMO or game for that matter, i couldn't imagine that a name like mine would ever be questioned, and I have seen MUCH worse in the this game. I've never seen anyone get booted froma guild or group in Guild Wars 2 for a name like mine. I'm not an expert though, and this isn't GW2. When people started piling on that my name could be offensive to some and might cause problems for me, I was stunned. I was told corps might not accept me, or FCs in fleet chat might be annoyed at my name. But, that was just one chat room at one time. So, I'm reaching out to you guys.

I also briefly looked into name changing, but that probably isn't going to happen. It's been suggested that CCP doesn't do that unless the name is reported as offensive. I could report it myself, but then it was suggested I might get a name like "Minmatar Citizen 720480257304423". It was also suggested that I just create a new character, but I don't want to start over. I'm 17 days in and that's 17 days straight of training and such, and I realize that isn't very long in the grand scheme of this game, but idk, I don't really want to start from scratch at this point.

TLDR: Do you think my name is going to cause problems for me, given the serious nature of this game?

Same here. When I started the game it was on a Friday after work, and I just wanted to get into the game and see if I even liked it. I didn't spend too much time on my character's look (though it's def grown on me) and the name I just poached from one of my GW2 characters. I wasn't trying to be 12 or anything, just get into the game and see what it was all about. With RPG-ish games, I'll often skip character creation to get right into the game, see how it runs, see what it looks like and how it plays, and then go back and spend hours and hours making my character. 18 days later, I'm still playing and totally forgot to reroll.

No word from CCP yet on the name change, and given the reaction here I def want to change it, or reroll I guess. I don't want people making assumptions about me early on w/o a track record, and I don't really care about the name at all.

That's not entirely true.

You ever play Xbox Live? 14 year olds name themselves all kinds of things when their account isn't throwawar or "alt-able" at ALL.

It's a culture mismatch, one I think that condemns the culture of Eve players more than "casuals" or the much larger population out there who go against this "grain" and name themselves Jitaman or Flyboy or whatever else.

Not everyone wants to name themselves after NPC characters for some pseudo-roleplay.
