Have to say I'm blown away by the generosity of the EVE Online community thus far. I did a quick count of my donations so far (41 donations for $2,315), and THIRTY FIVE of them have come from EVE Online players, two random people on Reddit, and one friend I used to play WoW with a decade ago. People I've mostly never met have put up over $1,800 towards this cause.

Thank you all so much. I'm really hoping to motivate more friends and family to pitch in, but either way I'm 100% confident we'll make the goal of $5,000. I'm not sure if it's sad or absolutely amazing that I'm relying so heavily on EVE players to get me there, but it's pretty humbling.

I wouldn't say that its either. Its just purely heartwarming, and people all around care for charitable causes. This is just tremendously encouraging, I'm happy that its made so much progress.

We did it! We've hit the $5,000 mark, ensuring that CCP will donate the full amount pledged.

As the event hasn't even happened yet, I've moved the goalposts up a bit to keep people donating. Either way, I'm thrilled to have hit my goal and am looking forward to tomorrow!

I'm not 100% sure I'll even know before I land where I'll be. As of now I have no idea. It will be guaranteed to be in lowsec :somewhere:

I see, I was hoping that there was some idea that you had that you knew where you'd be put. That way it'd be up to you how inclusive you made the event, allowing it to become open for attendance of a large number of people rather than just the local pirates and the power blocs that can force project quickly. Perhaps it would behoove you to talk to one of the Devs supporting the event so it can be more inclusive rather than a surprise gank for the locals.

I'm sure you're already doing this, but it would be nice for a number of people to be able to participate, especially those that aren't absolutely familiar with lowsec and well established entities.

I will say that I've suggested a system that's one jump from highsec and has multiple ways into it that are no more than 2 jumps from highsec, but no guarantees.

Alright, that will probably be best. Hopefully CCP agrees to that suggestion, that would be best for the event.

You know, this event confirms two things about Eve players:

-We got an awesome community, willing to rally together for a worthy cause

-Any excuse is good for blowing up ships Pirate

And BIG cheers for CCP for making such a major contribution to the donations, showing why they are still one of the best MMO companies around!

I'll be there tonight to report on the event! Hopefully I can arrive early in whatever system you appear in.

Well, the event was a blast! had my work cut out to write a battle report on it: Explode a Nyx for the Kids!

I did my best to reconstruct the evening of battle in Ostingele, if any glaring errors got in, let me know! Couldn't be present everywhere. Also links to pictures & such would be greatly appreciated, you will be credited for your images/links.

Some stats:

6 capitals went down : 1 Nyx, 1 Phoenix, 1 Revelation, 2 Archons and a Thanatos (first fix, the PL Thanatos was part of the event capitals)

The fight lasted a little over 3 hours with average to low TiDi (most of the time it was below 50% save a few spikes)

Local was very decent really, averaged around 900 during the event, during high activity it spiked to slightly over 1100 people. Despite this 'low count' over 3000 (!) ships went lost! This means there was some huge turnover, for every ship that went down, a new one jumped into the fray!

Also, for the conversion rates, I took a very conservative number: rated PLEX for 20$ and converted ingame to 800 million isk. This results in mind boggling numbers like 10.000 $ equaling 400 billion isk! And that's a low end estimate. Make the PLEX price closer to reality and the rewards in isk would jump up massively!
