With the way I mine AFK is not an option. I park the barge in the belt and use my alt to Haul the ore to station. This method not only increases my ISK per hour, but forces me to stay active. ALso I check the corp and sec status of everyone in system to make note of who my be a potential ganker. If I suddenly see 2 or more Destroyers and up warp into the belt I haul ass and warp to either station or another BM I have in system. Avoiding be ganked even when every "wannabe" pirate in high sec has gankitis is really easy. Just don't mine afk. Have a tank fit, and don't be a damn idiot.

I try to be nice and mind my business just shooting lasers at rocks. There is just way too many asshats in New Eden for that to happen.
