From the patch notes:

The Oracle now has the correct type of wreck (which is not guaranteed to make it any more bearable to use one).

So CCP think the Oracle is unbearable to use? Shocked

That begs the questions:
1. Why do you think so?
2. Why did you design it that way if you think it sucks?
3. Why admit it? :-p

Oracle makes fine RDBMSs. The reason we went for MSSQLS has nothing to do with us finding Oracle to be unbearable.

The more you know!

With this Oracle BC, a question of balance and fairness comes to mind.

When will we have a cruiser named Postgres and shuttle called mysql? ;)

CCP Greyscale: As to starbases, we agree it's pretty terrible, but we don't want to delay the entire release just for this one factor.

The postgress cruiser would have to be Tech 4!

Why stop here with bad DB oriented jokes!

A query walks into a bar and joins two tables.
The waitress walks up to it and asks why he needs two tables.
"I like this view" the query responds.

The best thing about being a DB-Developer, aside from all the clever jokes available to us, is that friends and family never ask me to help them move houses because of my tendency to drop tables!

....sorry I'll stop. Oops

Because they will all come down to the core:

Rene Descartes was sitting at a bar. The bartender came over and asked if he would like another drink. He replied, "I think not." And vanished.

No, bad dev. No one thinks DB jokes are funny. DBs are evil and wrong and hateful things. An oracle joke, shame on you. Blink

It's funny how the ones among us who actually worked with Oracle have the opposite view: after developing ASP/.NET/etc for around 6 years with an Oracle backend there is no day i'm working a query in MSSQL without me facepalming and thinking "if this was Oracle I would be done already"

Now SQL 2008 had brought things close enough I would consider it over ... Oracle 8.1.7 Cool
