Clone Options - What are your ideas?

Hey, I was watching the EvE Vegas broadcast, and was intrigued by CCP FoxFour's idea that we may not have to upgrade clones for skillpoints anymore. He said CCP was actively looking for options for clones to make choices more inherent than the isk sink option we have now, where you have to update your clone every time you die, and it costs more the more skillpoints you have.

Here's what I came up with: to increase clone choices, why not give the option of purchasing a clone that has a 50% bonus to ONE skill, any skill the player chooses, but that costs more the higher rank and the more skillpoints a character has in that skill?

So like a +50% bonus to Gallente Frigate skill boosts (rank two, at 512k skillpoints total for level 5) would cost say, 50 isk per skillpoint times the rank (2) or, 512k * 50isk * 2 = 51.2million isk in purchase price?

I realize the ship skills could be over valuable, so maybe there would have to be a modifier. But like Rapid Firing level 5 clone would also cost 51.5 million skillpoints (rank 2, level 5, times 50 isk per skillpoint) and would give a base 1.5 times the native skill bonus.

I had considered having an Industry skill clone bonus, or an Invention, or Gunnery, or similar bonus instead on a clone, but these seemed too OverPowered, and if the bonus is too cheap or pervasive, all of rich characters would have a Buy-A-Win clone.

Good base idea, tying your clone to a boost in skills... but damn 50% is OP.

For all intents and purposes, it's an 11th implant slot for an implant that doesn't actually exist as an item itself.

I don't really have an opinion on this, just pointing that out.

I think I jumped the gun in posting to Features - there are a couple of ideas people have shared with me that I like equally well (or better) for making clones more choice oriented.

Like:

1. paying for implant slots (Thanks Mario) ... where the base clone has NO implant slots and you pay for the privilege

or 2. paying for attribute maps (Thanks Feronanthus) ... where you could pay to re-map your attributes with each new clone

......

Anybody else have ideas?

i would completely get rid of the idea of upgrading or improving your clone (beside implants) and focus on the pod instead.

instead of paying to keep your clone up2date you could pay for a better pod which would have extra warpspeed (cheap) or extra resistance to smartbombs (expensive) or ability to flush pod goo (removes drug effect including all penalties). The golden pod would be a golden pod, not an implant etc etc

This gives you a choice between various pod options and is still a little isk sink. (you lose sp when you forget to upgrade the clone is a horrible boring and unfun game mechanic)

implants are basically interfaces between you and the pod, drugs are something you put into the pod goo (if i remember the lore correctly). So to round it up you should see you implants if you open the fitting window for your pod - just as if it would be a ship - instead of having them in your char sheet. Naming your pod would name your jump clone (since it is the same thing if you think about it).

how to fix eve: 1) remove ECM 2) rename dampeners to ECM 3) add new anti-drone ewar for caldari 4) give offgrid boosters ongrid combat value

IdeaRapid Transfer Clone - Clone reduces Jump clone time by 7 hours. (So if your skill is maxed it's a 12 hr jump time).
Limitation - Can not jump INTO a implant equipped clone during the 7 hr rapid transfer period (i.e. you are still limited by skills)

Idea is to make it easier to use JC to get into PvP for people with less than stable schedules, by helping out the JC cool down timer. But NOT make it so overpowered that everyone just uses it as a way to have training clones while they sleep, and clean clones while they play. Idea prob needs some balance on timeliness - but just explaining the idea.

IdeaMarket Clone - Consciousness is transferred into a buffered mainframe on a station in X jumps from current location. Reduce time to make the jump and reduced time to jump back (say 12 hr jump cool down)
Limitation - Since your are in a mainframe not in a clone body. You can not undock or use CPTs Qtrs. Basically limited to regional market interface at that station.

IdeaPOS Clone - Similar to market clone. No body, your "stored" in a computer. Can use all POS structures (manufacturing, defenses, etc), can online and offline arrays. Again shorter jump time out and back. No Distance limitation since it's only works for POS.
Limitation - again no body, so you can't board a ship and leave.

For these clones, the cool down time would need balancing, I'm just tossing out numbers to explain the idea. I would also add some kind of JC fatigue though. "Blah blah rigors of jumping on your mind... blah blah... wait additional x hours" So one, two or both things happen.
1) When jumping from a special clone to a regular clone, you next JC timer is restricted by skills only not the bonus of the clone (so 24hrs - 19hrs depending on skill, no matter what type of clone you jump to).
2) Add additional time to cool down to JC again, possibly add skill to reduce this cool down, but NOT by 100%

For none JC clone changes:

I'd love a "Link Clone" where you can fit mind links but those mindlinks don't take implant slot. The clone has the same bonus as the link but no implant, so I can place other stuff there. Needs to be more expensive than just buying the link obviously.

Oh one other - Make a very expensive clone like 2 bil or something. That basically has Pirate Omega Implant bonus - but slot 6 still open. Needs to be MORE expensive than just buying the Omega implant (since you're getting the slot back with this clone).
