Hey everyone.

We have removed the remap from the list of available holiday gifts, at least temporarily, while we look into some improvements we feel need to be made, and if we will be able to make them in time.

Why are we doing it?

Because we are not happy with the way it functions, essentially because it doesn't function as people sometimes think it does, and is therefore likely to mislead a good amount of those who choose it as their gift. We want you to be happy with your gift and not be mad during Christmas.

What does this mean for you guys?

1.Those who picked it already?
Nothing yet. We are just looking at our options of improving the gift before it is distributed on the 22nd. Until then, we don't want to enlarge the group of people who have chosen this gift.

2. Those who want it but haven't chosen it yet.
You won't be able to choose it unless we enable it again, but you have until the end of the 21st to choose your gift and we will keep you informed on the progress of our work well before that time. Please note that if you choose something else before we come to a conclusion on our end, your choice will be final.

3. Everyone else.
This won't affect you at all. Enjoy your gift.

Please accept our apologies for not making this decision BEFORE we put the list out there as we obviously should have. As promised, we will keep you informed on the progress and of course we are listening to your feedback.

No reason to not fix it and bring it back, or just bring it back, seeing as how you flat out just gave us one last year.

Though I have a question..

If you plan to put it back in to the gift list, will you announce it prior to the 21st?

I don't want to select a gift that ... in all reality, I'm not likely to use.

How exactly does the 'gift remap' differ from a normal remap?

from the sounds of it, you will still receive it.
if they modify it, it will be made available for everyone
if they can't modify it, those of you who were quick enough to select it will be the lucky few who receive it

thanks for the update.

When the first remaps came, people got surprised by the mechanic, yes. Also, since something as a remap was never available during the redeeming system before, the mechanic of this remap was important to evaluate and weigh the choice.

As a player with a lot of accounts, I would love the remap to be a tradeable item received once for every character on all my accounts. Of course. It would mean I'd drown in remaps for my mains till the end of days. But that is not fair, it's somewhere between wishful thinking, cognitive dissonance and something you need to see a doctor for.

I already chose remap on two accounts. On one I have a remap available, so I gain flexibility. On the other, the timer shortening would have come in handy. And I was actually thinking about maybe rolling a new character on one and give the remap to him to start him off with 3 (int/mem, mem/perc, per/willp, yay.).
The others, I was still pondering what else (but this isn't the topic).

The pure mathematical mechanic of the last remaps is fair. If you have 0, you get +1 for 1. If you have 1, you gain +1 for 2.
Because, if you currently have a remap, then you have not used it yet. So you gain flexibility for not skillplan-tailoring your attributes.
If you do not have a remap currently, then you have used it, and got the benefit from it. And now you get another one, like everybody else.

I won't complain if the end of your discussions is that one gets a remap without resetting the timer, since I like having the cake and eating it as much as the next guy. But that is essentially what it is.

So please, keep/reintroduce it as an option with the original mechanic. It may not be ideal for every character, but none of the options are. That is the point.

And to all the people constantly pointing to the character sale value of multiple respecs:
(a) you must have horribly skilled characters if you think noone will want them without the luxury of 4 remaps to fix them
(b) since you are obviously already planning your exit strategy from eve, stop ruining the game for the people that like it

Clear concise and helpful. Who is logged in on your account?

if ccp decides to go back on the remaps gift, my alt will be stuck with 27 points in Charisma for the next year

(have only 2-3 months worth of charisma skills to train, would never have done this remap if I hadn't selected the remap gift)

Anyways... what do we learn?

even when design issues show up so late in the development process that you can't fix them in time for this time (that would have been the learnings skill removal last year), fix them asap anyways or you 'll forget about them and they'll still be there next time (i.e. 2011 christmas gifts).

Hope the "Remap" as a gift will come back. Only think i would want. Rest of the gifts have no real benefit for me. If it won't come back i'm quit sure i won't take any of the gift. Sry to say this.
