Returning Player : What to do?

Just thought I would take some advice before i enter the game. A brief background i started eve about 2004 did the whole alliance thing, IRON and G then moved into the whole Pirate thing, Priory, sniggerdly etc. moved into solo pirate stuff got owned a fair bit but it was fun. I was never anybody important flew under some big in game names at the time, I could lead a small gang ok but fleet stuff I was never really confident enough for that level of game play.

The above said I suspect i was starting to get bored with the game because the whole summer of rage came about. I jumped into Jita on my alt and shot at the iconic statue for a few hours and then without any further thought jumped out of game and deleted my main making a point not to return. A year or so later i picked up the game again (This character) did a little bit but realised enough time has not passed. Now a further 2 years later i think i could be up for another try. I suspect the best thing as this character has just 800k sp is to delete this character and start again as that will force me through the tutorial although eve used to be a game best learnt by the loss of a ship but clearly i will need to relearn the game both mechanics and more importantly the community.

So where to start the problem is even though this character was created two years ago it’s safe to say i have not played for 3 years, what sort of advice would you give someone like me (Other than can i have your stuff or if you give me 10 isk I will give you 20 back) What sort of new aspects to the game might appeal to someone like me, I am not asking to be spoon fed, i suspect the players know what current aspects of the game are worth investing time into and have workable mechanics and are not languishing on CCP's test bench might appeal to me. Ultimately I will take whatever ideas come and run with them.

Thanks In advance...

While there have been some major changes to some aspects of the game in the last 3 years ( reprocessing, industry and specific ship stats and PVP meta ) I don't think you are as out of touch as you fear.

That said, your opportunities are pretty boundless since you actually played before, solo PVP, fleets etc. Rusty mabye but not brand new to it.

What do you think you want to try this time around? Get back into combat or try something new?

If I was in your shoes I would probably hook up with a corp of younger guys doing what strikes you as fun this time around. Your prior experience would probably be invaluable to a young crew and I would personally hope that your previous exposure to PVP would actually lead to much better enjoyment of the game for the other new guys with someone in the group who isn't completely lost.

Mine, trade, fight, pirate, FW, build. It's really all dependant on what you where looking for when you got back :)

Welcome back to Eve btw.

Thanks L'ouris

I think PvP will be my general direction, it is something that i enjoyed most in the game. I like the idea of a new corp, i had not considered that they would need to be mature, but yes somehting like that could work as i would learn along side them. Eve used to be all about who you play with more than anything else a fresh new corp with new ideas could be a good move.

I will think on that whilst i get myself back into things

RvB would likely be a good place to look if you want to hop back into PVP.

Another good idea i had not considered, could be a good way to go, early in game with a perhaps a rifter (If they are still a viable early fighter)

There's a bunch of viable T1 frigates. Tormentor, Executioner, Incursus, Tristan, Condor, Merlin, Slasher and Rifter all come to mind as common choices from people I've talked to.

Depending on what you find fun, the rifter went from frigate easy mode to frigate hard mode.

All viable but that ship in particular is definitely on the other end of them spectrum from when you last played.

The somewhat recent frigate rebalance buffed up the other t1 frigs without doing much for the Rifter since it was already on top. It's actually one of the least popular frigates now. Breachers and Tristans are my personal favorites, but there's a niche for almost all the t1 frigs at the moment.

Definitely join a corp if pvp is your interest, even if you want to solo. Chatting with other players will help you catch back up, and as stated above some newer players could probably benefit from your experience. With low SP faction warfare might be a good fit for you, as they spend the vast majority of their time in frigates, so you could dive right in.

Also there's no need to start a new character to do the tutorial. You should be able to reset the tutorial at any time (escape menu), and there are several sets of "career agents" which offer the extended tutorial missions. You can search for them in the agent finder. (IIRC there are three agents sets per race which you CAN run, though the missions are the same so there is no reason to run more than one set unless you want the rewards or standing).

I miss my old Rifter. SO much.

Still that Falloff bonus could be interesting, with slightly better skills and some fitting voodoo I could get one to hit out to about 20km.

The rebalance is amazing in my eyes. So many more options than during my first foray into the game. We're almost spoiled for choice at this point. OP, check out the Incursus and Tristan (my favorites so far), the Slasher is also looking awesome to me at the moment, being able to slap a Tracking Disruptor in addition to full tackle is just mean.

If you're looking for 'casual' ship to ship PvP, definitely check out faction warfare areas, lot's of traffic, and usually doesn't take long to find a fight, whether it's solo or not is another story Lol. If you do decide to do this, I do recommend brining out a few replacements, makes it far easier and enjoyable to fight when you can just dock up and reship ASAP.

Welcome back, and I hope you find a niche for yourself again, cheers. o7

Grrr.

Yes, but if you enjoy some of the detailed mechanics of frigate dualing, the capabilities are still there in the new rifter, it's like a puzzle to me I haven't put the time into figuring out personally. The ship abilities say you can dodge and weave and adapt to your opponents weaknesses, I personally haven't cracked the code on he flying part yet though.

Definitely a good goal if that's a thing you enjoy however.

I had the pleasure of spending some time with Ombey in 0.0, he was the first pilot that i could remember anyway use a T2 fitted rifter for chaining the rats in 0.0 belts. basically for ratting in non secured systems the rifter was the best way to go quick to get away if local got hostile and could deal enough damage to take the rats down.

but as others have said it was always overpowered the goto ship for pvp..

That kind of story is exactly why I would be taking your 800k sP character with your vet background into newer corps btw Smile

Eve as a world has such a neat history that can really capture the right imaginations. The time could be ripe for a new group of characters to turn into the next tuskers etc. Just need to find that spark and group.

Aaah not another one of those....

What to do?

Simple, find something you have fun doing, do that.

It IS as simple as that.

And wow, is Summer of Rage already 3 years ago...I'm getting old.

As for PvP options, check my signature, it lists a couple of public roam channels.

If there are roams that match your schedule, just give them a try.

there is no reason to delete the toon and start over. 800K skill points may not be much but it's skill points that you have and are still useful. You can reset the tutorials in settings to make them show up again as if you never played the game.
