Login Screen Choice

I'm sure i posted this before at some point, but here goes...

Across all expansions, EVE's login screen has always retained pretty much the same functionality, only the theme has changed. For the nostalgic ones under us, why not let us choose which login screen we want to see? I'd want to go back to the Dominion one, or god forbid, the early beta login screen (<3 Stellar Shadows).

It doesn't have to be an exact replica of the entire screen. The current functionality and design is fine. All the choice would affect is what is rendered in the 3d area and what color theme the screen has, this way all past login screens should easily be supported since nothing else is changed and all the assets should still exist somewhere. The alternates could also be offered, like the some of the Sisi login screens that were scrapped for their release (Dominion and Tyrannis come to mind).

That said, it would be awesome to have some of the past login screens updated with the Dominion planets/stars and Crucible nebulas, Like Empyrean Age or maybe even this silly old one.

If you do things right, people won't be sure you've done anything at all...

I thought they were going to get some kind of launcher. So this login screen is probably being removed in upcoming expansions.

The login screen *is* the launcher ;p

Always has been.

Re-read the devblogs. They're working on an out of game launcher, that'll let you get patches and everything before launching the game (I assume this will also ask for the username/password info).

One of the bitter points of a good bittervet is the realisation that all those SP don't really do much, and that the newbie is having much more fun with what little he has. - Tippia

If we want to be technical, no, it's not. The launcher is eve.exe (which shows the splash screen) which launches ExeFile.exe which current login screen is a part of.

With my pedantic ****weed gene satisfied, I can say I'd like to see old logins again as well, even though my nostalgia doesn't reach as far as yours (Revelations II, what was with the numbering anyway?).

+1. We don't need no stinkin' launcher either, I prefer seeing my internet spaceships right away, at least it gives me something nice to look at after I change my password and forget what it is P

In PvP there are no winners, only losers. The trick is to be less of a loser than the guy you're shooting at.

I did miss that then, my bad.

Still, a completely new seperate launcher would be pointless, it would be a better idea to implement the features into the current launcher/login screen.

We are in agreement here, in case my original post was too vague on this.

Also, using this as an excuse for a shameless bump P

They are rolling all the features into the "current" launcher -- they're just making it better than a boring splash screen.

Rev II was so named because the prior expansion was "Revelations".

Expansion history:
Castor
Exodus
Exodus: Cold War (generally referred to as "Cold War")
Exodus: Red Moon Rising (Generally referred to as "RMR")
Revelations <-- I started in the last few weeks of this
Revelations II
Trinity
Empyrean Age
Quantum Rise
Apocrypha
Dominion
Tyrannis
Incursion
Incarna (We should really try sweeping this one under the rug)
Crucible

You're missing Medusa and Gemini (Second Genesis) before Castor. No expansions but they did have their own login screens :)

Edit: I think there were one or 2 versions before Medusa, that last one is the version i started beta with.
