It is if you play full screen and/or dont have second monitor

Strictly speaking you‘re right. But what‘s the advantage of playing in full screen mode? I think I turned it off in my first EVE weeks or months and never turned it back on again.

Its not a matter of advantage. Its a matter of sudenly ccp saying you no longer have a choice of playing fullscreen.

I feel like you're sidestepping the getting data into the client issue though.

You are not reading my other posts.

Killing the browser still is a major Quality of Life decrease, even if you can do all eve-related stuff with CREST.

I do appreciate it quite a lot that i currently have the ability to open random-static-web-content while being ingame.
This forces people to leave the game even more once they do monotonic activities and puts people without at least 2 screens in a major disadvantage.

So please, do not remove the browser. May replace it with a terrible mobile browser or some stuff, but do not take it out completely. Rather, just kill your eve JavaScript stuff, give us a light browser to do access non-gameplay-related web content while being ingame and still make CREST as awesome as you want it to be.

I play full-screen because I don't want to be distracted by other stuff on my desktop. I don't see any notifications, any Skype/Mail blinking, I just see the game. And that is precisely what I want to see when I play. I don't want to see a windows frame or the buttons at the top, I don't want to see bars, I don't want to see notifications, I don't want to see $Messanger$ beg for my attention; I only want to see the game.

Alt tabbing, by the way is not an alternative as you leave the game and thus lose control. If I want to use Dotlan to find my route or check some stats, I want to do it ingame. If I use Google or EVE-Wiki to check on some DED's spawns and NPC distribution, I want to do it ingame. If I want to check market prices with eve-marketdata, I want to do it ingame.

I do not want to leave the game for stuff that can be done ingame.

Oh, and I do not want to see flash implemented. Gifs are already distracting enough.

Well, unless they wanna make CREST to be a tool to acces ressources like texts/pictures on the internet like ... a Browser. Would be kinda strange, but hey i could live with that.

Our horses are so high because we are giants. We don't point out how short your horses are ;-p

Seriously, please read his feedback and the other posts. What everyone wants can be accomplished with an overlay that has an browser that is kept up-to-date.

So a final post, as this topic has been talked about in a few threads (one nice threadnaught) before:

  • The IGB is not being removed anytime soon
  • It's also not getting any love
  • When we do remove it there will be a nice long conversation at that time
  • Browsers are a very complicated thing, they receive a lot of updates and change very fast, they are also a GIANT security threat to your machine.
  • There are plenty of options for once we remove the IGB still getting a browser in your client, such as the linked Overwolf overlay. Since those things just use your browser, there is no delay for getting updates.
  • We could spend our time keeping the IGB, but when things such as Overwolf and other overlays exist, our time is better spent on the spaceship game.
  • We wont remove the IGB until CREST can take over the gameplay functionality.
  • For those concerns for "no second monitor" or "playing fullscreen" please see overlays.

This will all come up again when we actually go to remove the IGB, so until then, fly safe guys.

Sounds great.

Just a question?

Is there an overlay that works on Mac OS X?

That is their reason for doing this so that it’s not their problem anymore. All they have to do is give access to the data and then never worry about it again.

may i recommend to get a "x always use external browser for links" option ASAP? The earlier you guys train players to rely on an external browser the better it will be for you when you remove the IGB

how to fix eve: 1) remove ECM 2) rename dampeners to ECM 3) add new anti-drone ewar for caldari 4) give offgrid boosters ongrid combat value

How exactly do they remove the choice? Is the game losing the "full screen" mode? Will the game crash if you have it full screen?

I know a lot of people are complaining about it, but personally I'm really looking forward to seeing all that CREST will be able to do. For instance one thing that I'm not sure has been mentioned, but is pretty important to me, is being able to show info on pilots from sites such as Eve Who. As long as CREST allows me to continue doing that, and also allows my browser to collect API information through CREST (such as which system I'm currently in, my character name etc) I'll be completely happy.

Trying to maintain a browser on top of making Eve better isn't going to work well for anyone. If you say we can get all the functionality and ditch the IGB, so be it. To the future!

First of all, dear god do NOT ever add Java or Flash to the IGB, just... no, stick to open standards. Those things are terrible to deal with.

As for the IGB. I would still really like to keep one in game, with just the basics. Pretty much what you see now, minus Google Docs crashing. I know this isn't your plan, but I'm voicing my opinion. If you guys only update it every 3 years, I'm fine with that. If you strip out most everything, that's ok too. It's really nice having a seamless application there though. I know where it is, I know when it has focus and when it doesn't. I can have it up constantly for maps and everything else. It just works well in game, and other people see that too.

I know, CREST is supposed to supply that same functionality, and I hope it does. The community will do wonderful things with it. I'd still like to keep my IGB for the basics though.

fine with me to remove the ingame browser.
IF
All these things, that players use it for currently can be used in an out-of-game-browser.

BUT
There is one thing that shouldnt be removed. Its the sharing of gif/jpg via link to amuse your fellow fleetmembers or local.

i dont want to buy another monitor.
