Just had some not so fun experiences with the ingame browser causing it to crash whenever trying to use google docs.

Back and forth talk with GM's Gave me the info that the browser is not getting updated unless more people has an interest in it.

Therefore my idea is to get as many people on here interested in getting our awesome browser updated.

Here is some stuff I would love to work in the ingame browser.

Flash
Java
Google Docs (yay for accessing ones spreadsheets ingame instead of having to alt tab back and forth.

Anything else any of you guys would love to get implemented into the ingame browser?
Any of you want the browser to stay updated?

Just my thoughts.
Psyrelle.

God yes, even if its just messing around with Chrome a bit and shoving it in. Would is really take so much effort to maintain after the initial push?

Eve has an awesome community of third party developers, you wonder just what could be achieved with the modern internets in-game.

Flash will not - and should not - ever be enabled in the IGB. It's a horrible security hazard and it needs to be purged from the internet with fire. What the IGB needs is proper and up-to-date HTML5 support.

The same goes for Java. Heck, even Javascript should probably have a whitelist system, like NoScript in Firefox (which, by the way, is an addon you should use if you're not using it yet).

For all the odd stuff we know about EVE by now, the browser could be based on the lost code of the billboards or or core UI function.

The browser uses Awesomium, which is a variant of Chromium and -was- open-source but no longer is. A new, updated version will require licensing fees and will almost certainly be expensive given that it would be licensed for an MMO (meaning lots and lots of distributed copies).

Didn't they talk about removing the IGB as a whole during fanfest?

I hadn't heard that but it wouldn't surprise me at all if they gave it the Jukebox treatment rather than bothering to fix it.

Screw updating the IGB. There's no way CCP will be able to keep up with normal browsers so why try? Instead they should focus on getting CREST up and running so that you can track in game stuff via API's in out of game browsers!

They Don't need it to keep up with browsers just not be so horrible outdated that it does not work on many homepages.

I leave that here.

I don't want to leave EVE for that. If I have to leave EVE for looking something ingame-related up on the internet, I expose myself to risk I don't have control over. Oh, and playing in window mode is absolutely a no-go. Blink

A browser which adds a single plugin increases it's holes by at least 100%. Your docs are not crashing because you cannot watch youtube or cause JS to spam new windows.

The IGB is not getting updated, once CREST is up to par the IGB will be removed.

We have been over this before, DO NOT REMOVE wormhole mapping from ingame.
You tried this before and received a lot of negative feedback, but here you are forcing through the changes anyway

I tried arguing for a community driven project to update the IGB.....but CCP seems to be dead set on nuking the IGB from orbit to make sure it's dead.

CCP RedDawn: Ugly people are just playing life on HARD mode. Personally, I'm playing on an INFERNO difficulty.

CCP Goliath: I often believe that the best way to get something done is to shout at the person trying to help you. http://goo.gl/PKGDP

Question: How will CREST support the same use cases like the IGB? Like afore mentioned WH mapping?
