"zombie" cosmic signatures?

Is it common for exploration sites to show up in the system scanner, have an entry in the scan results window, but never get higher than 0%?

I had same problem few times. Site was going "yellow" but cannot be 100% scanned, or just stuck at 0%. I'm increasing probes AU range for that site, reseting result. Many times signature was not in original scanned place.

Signatures or cosmic anomalies will remain at 0% unless your probes pick up the anomaly when they run the scan.

If your probes are getting the anomaly at 100%, modules and rigs can help, but the biggest improvement is your scanning skills.

In the meantime, press and hold the 'alt' key, then clicking one of the arrows, move your probes closer together, hit scan and you should get the final %.

To get your probes back information, just press the 'Launch Pinpoint Formation' button in the scan window.

I've had this happen a few times, I think it has to do with scan deviation.

Basically, as you trickle down on scan range, the actual location of the site becomes more precise. If you skip a few ranges, sometimes the warpin point falls outside of scan range, even if the previous scan shown it at that location.

EVE is what happens when the rule of law does not apply and Darwinism is allowed to run freely.

This.

Lets just say you scan with 4au and you get 2 dots, you scan one of them with 1au and suddenly 0% but still have 2 dots because the last position is remembered and you scanned the wrong dot.

Do not shy away froim increasing the range if you get anything else than one dot.

Also , judging from the screenshot, ideally you want to have all the spheres inside the most dense part of the formation (as many probes picking stuff up as possible), not just vaguely matching one of the outermost probes range.

EDIT: also dunno about terminology, we have also "zombie" drone combat signatures that are cleared but dont despawn :)

My other half had been probing those signatures for half an hour, trying with a spread formation at 32 AU all the way down to precision formation at 8AU placed over each celestial. Apologies for not providing a better indication of just how much we'd scanned :)

Dunno, i have never used spread and most of the time i try to match the initial sphere with a pinpoint 4au or 8au (saved custom, helps).

Since the scanning is based around some form of triangulation (dont remember the number of probes required), how many probes can pick up the sig seems to be the most important thing, followed by signal strength of the sig.

If you find it again, drop me a mail, i would like to see that for myself :)

There does seem to be a bug, I experienced the same thing you are describing. I was only probing to pass the time while scanning ships so I didn't think much of it at the time. I could probe down 4 of the 5 sigs in the system with two cycles but could not narrow down the last one after 10+ tries. I was in high-sec so I don't think it had anything to do with my skills or fit as before that, I had never had come across a sig I could not scan down.

Edit: I just took a look at the image again, Deltole was the system where this happened to me as well.

2nd Edit: Confirmed it must be a bug, TPG-024 still there and I can not probe it down. Bug report filed.

I have encountered ghost DED sites in the last weeks where the the icon location is visible in space (green @100%), but you can't warp to it. Seems to me like sites that were cleared, but somehow did not get deleted. Maybe the same thing happend with you while you were scanning for the listed sig that is not actually there anymore.

I've been having issues with scanning recently too- multiple systems in high sec with 15+ sites (half you can warp to, half to scan down) and have not been able to scan down a single one, WITH + scan strength rigs and arrays. I don't get it. Ugh

I've had some of these trickier sites, and they usually turn out to be wormholes. It seems like some days are better than other. With same skills one day I scan site down in just three sweeps, the next day it will bounce like set of double D's on bumpy road...

I had several times a 100% pin but when warping to there nothing was there to find. So i thought i was just a timing issue, that site has despawned while i was warping to there. After i had that like 5 times i was more or less confused, as corp members told me they have same problems.

Then i found another one of these. When i had the sudden idea to try to warp to it another time from there where i ended up in empty space i could warp to the site - ending up again in empty space. Repeatedly doing that just let me warp from one point to another with always the same distance of exactly 4.96 AU, always ending in empty space. After like 10 mins i considered it as bugged and left. When i passed through the system on way back (we always bookmark all sites we find in our corp locations because we mapping all WHs in our constellation) the site was still there, and after warp i ended up in empty space like before. Next day it was gone.
