Dear EVE Community

For three and a half years and counting a bloody conflict rages in Syria. More than three million men, women and children have been forced to leave their homes. Reports of ethnic cleansing, torture, sexual violence and the use of chemical weapons have shocked the world. The refugees are often traumatised, have lost their homes, their family and friends. While there is nothing to compensate for their losses, it can be changed that also in their exiles their misery often continues.

PLEX can help.

Please voice your support so that together we can support those in need. Together we made it possible that in 2013 $185,175 USD came to aid those affected by the typhoon in the Philippines in 2013; 2011 $44,607 USD were raised by players for Japan. While the war in Syria is not a natural catastrophe and many might have become accustomed to hear saddening news from this part of the world, let us, the community of EVE, not forget and contribute. Together we can give the lives of the refugees some relief. Let us voice the support and present a strong argument to CCP to make this happen, so that by Christmas we can ship our presents.

Thank you for reading, and please show your support!

Odelya

(Please keep this thread on topic. It is not meant to discuss questions of “who started it” and condemning this or that party, it is about the refugees of the conflict in Syria, all of them.)

My char isn't old enough yet to be worth selling it. :/

I would agree provided the proceeds are given to a known, neutral aid group assisting with the refugees which I assume was the case in the prior ones. The scale of the disaster and the suffering is truly horrid.

Too ambiguously political.
Sorry.

Edit : i don't mean to offend you or diminish the cause you have.
i do not however feel this is an appropriate avenue for support (which i would otherwise whole heartedly give).

Now victims of war and next it will be PLEX for a guy who can't pay for his bus pass.
No PLEX for man-made problems.

I don't give a **** whether it's natural or political. It's a disaster of epic proportions.

Innocent people are suffering. The reason? Being born in the wrong place at the wrong time. It's not their fault they are in the grave situation they are in.

I wholeheartedly support Odelya in his/her endeavor to help support these poor people. It's good to see someone willing to open their heart and wallet to help those whose lives have been destroyed through no fault of their own.

Count on my PLEX support if you get this off the ground.

Yeah, I would love to help the true innocents in this mess, but sadly I dont believe there's any way to prevent the proceeds from going into the hands of those I consider to be the "bad guys."

Good luck to you, I hope Im wrong and some actual good can be done.

In the past CCP has given the donations to the Red Cross. You can find out more on their webpage:

Quote:
Three years since the start of the conflict, an estimated nine million Syrians urgently need humanitarian aid to survive.

Working closely with the Syrian Arab Red Crescent, the ICRC has provided food and other relief for over 445,000 people across Syria, but the scale of the crisis is greater than anything we have faced in the last 15 years. We must do more. Hostilities continue to cause shortages of water, food and medicine for tens of thousands of residents and Syrian refugees.

Your donation will help give the people of Syria the food, water, and health care they urgently need to survive.

The issue with this tends to go this way:

A deaster, you tend to have organizations like the red cross, work with the gov to get relief to the people, and help then rebuild with direct aid. Of course, at times, there is some corruption, but usually gov wants to work with organizations so as not to have there citizens get mad if they have no homes, and then said gov can spend less money on repairs.

in a war the gov/warloards/rebels tend to interfear. If the red cross brings food, it will be seiged and rationed out as a form of political control and manipulation. This is why they don't do drives for this stuff

This should be in the OOPE section.

Its a nice thought, however you could encourage people to give to their favorite organization that renders aide.

Same.

I had a small doubt over the previous Plex for Good campaigns when they were directed at nations who were actually in receipt of significant amounts of Aid in the first place, or are developed countries who can afford to provision for natural disasters. There was a more recent Plex for Good drive (apologies if I mix this up, was it Croatia?) where a couple of posters who lived in the affected areas remarked they appreciated the thought but were in fact receiving aid.

I'd much rather see a long term open donation plan to something like the Red Cross, or Doctors Without Borders, or whatever charity CCP/the playerbase pick. At least that way if players do decide to quit, there's a long term open charity drive they can donate their assets to. Charity events that Eve players can actually participate in with other people they know ingame - thinking sponsored activities such as skydives/treks etc - would be more meaningful to the community, rather than just chucking money at various problems for a bit of press.

The answer is in your own post.

Inb4l, this will end up in a political discussion and will get locked.

Totally disagree with this, this is caused by poltiics.

Might as well do plex for good for people in America who can't afford health care or people in the UK who've had their benefits cut or immigrants in France who live in shanty towns.

These are all political not natural disasters and to do a plex for good on any of those it would bring the game into a political stance.

So No!
