I created a petition 33 days ago, asking CCP to clarify exactly what an ISD moderator can see about characters who post on these forums. This is an important issue, as ISD moderators are volunteers who are also active participants in the EVE universe. I posed two question in the petition:

1) Can ISD members see the IP of characters who post, and thus form a connection between two or more players?
2) Can ISD members see the account of characters, and thus form a connection between two or more players?

Sadly, CCP is yet to answer this petition for that entire 33 day duration. While it is possible they are slow to respond, I have had 6 petitions across different characters answered within two weeks since I created this above petition. That includes two petitions already answered on the same character I created the above petition with.

Without a clear answer from CCP on this, I am now doing the next best thing: Taking to the community to find out exactly what an ISD can and cannot see about posters. Perhaps an ISD himself can drop in and give us the answer? That would be great.

If you're wondering why this matters, as stated ISD members have non-ISD characters that are active in the EVE universe. If they indeed can see our IP or accounts, they can gather very important intel about players, especially in regards to spies, espionage, cyno alts, and the like.

Cheers and thanks for reading.

One of the ISDs in a post in GD a couple of weeks ago (sorry don't have a link) said that the ISD cannot see alts that are associated with a poster, they can only see that poster themselves and no other information.

Also, why do you need to make so many petitions?

The reason for the delay in answering your petition may be that CCP has to prioritise the petitions they receive. You know, important petitions like a character being stuck gets answered as soon as possible. Petitions like yours get answered when there's a cold front blowing through the bowels of Hell.

Devs can probably see all that information and some of them play the game too.
If you're suggesting no-one playing the game should be able to see that info then you should ask CCP to remove the forums.

Edit - or stop all devs and isd from playing the game, I'm sure they'll be able to fix bugs and problems really fast that way. Roll

It would be pretty embarrassing for all those that use alts to boost their likes, among other things.

Lordy, the things some folk will do...

It is a game, not a popularity contest for god's sake.
Gamers will compete over any stupid thing.

I remember when Incarna first came out and people were making beauty sites, they ended up having to add all kinds of complexity to stop them being alt voted, script voted and bot voted.

Or the "how much ISK do you own" threads with all the Photoshopped screen caps?

Or a dozen more examples.

Hmmmm.....

This is definitely a new one (at least for me) in GD.

Kudos for that, OP.

Well, I can try. Unfortunately, I cannot give yes or no answers to either of the questions you asked, since that touches on NDA-protected information.

However, I can provide some assurance that there are strong controls in place to protect account information. In the same manner that ISD cannot put into effect bans, all actions that involve anything more than individual posts/threads/people require CCP oversight and involvement. This greatly minimizes the flow of sensitive information to ISD.

If someone in ISD does get sensitive information and uses it for personal gain in-game, they face expulsion from ISD and a permanent ban on all his/her accounts, per the contracts we all sign. This has thankfully never been the an issue, though, as far as I know. If you believe someone in ISD is abusing his/her powers, please either file a support ticket addressed to "Community" (our bosses), or send a mail off to internalaffairs@ccpgames.com.

As the question is answered and the thread is 90% non-constructive trolling (with no different future in sight), I am locking it.
