[Amendment 12/13]: In light of recent events including the Sleepers and (possibly) the Jove, I have written an alternate storyline to part two of the plan. Take a look here:
https://docs.google.com/document/d/1Rlyf-N4nR2YQObWHieUp5NVZpgW-JZpfS25t55Wg-t4/edit?usp=sharing

Hello again, CCP (and anyone else who is interested)!

I've been working on this idea for a few months now. It developed from a small thought I entertained into a full-blown concept- and though I have no way to predict how this will be taken by you all, I feel like it is an important thing that, if brought into EVE, could breathe new life into one of the original tenants of New Eden's narrative.

Project Galileo

For simplicity's sake, the plan has been split into three sections:

Agents and Missions
( https://docs.google.com/document/d/1OO7JxbJNlRW5dQdevAzuDnuBz6r5oGfsnx2Yfm1AdJg/edit?usp=sharing )
  • This is the 'setup' part of the plan, along with a couple of extraneous ideas that may or may not work parallel to it.

  • Epic Arc 'Grey Soul'
    ( https://docs.google.com/document/d/1AiAsyQkcqLz7ZyxATfxslfwBwnql27-AhTg_JIGVtuw/edit?usp=sharing )
  • This part is extremely important- and I think some of you might really like its story- it's got EOM, Sansha's Nation, Sleeper Drones, and, of course, ancient Jovian tech- in addition, it has a special mechanic involving a unique implant, along with its own specific rewards (and another side idea that could be very interesting to see).

  • Genolution 'Galilean' JD-67
    ( https://docs.google.com/document/d/1CSB3KT4-FXHFMfoWKTWyp6PTLdwe3oS8nPUE8T4qStA/edit?usp=sharing )
  • This is the crux of the hybridization (Galileo) plan- it includes the mechanics, a special implant, a new icon, and lore to back it all up- it's much more than just a technical explanation- you may like reading it! (also, here's a direct link to its icon)

  • Each of the above are links to public documents detailing each of the parts in detail; if I were to post it all at once here, I doubt anyone would take the time to read it (the other option would be to make multiple posts, one for each part, but I don't think I should do that). They aren't just boring text documents, either- I put a good amount of work into them to make them engaging, something you want to read.

    (also, there are pictures~♪ Smile)

    And along with all of this, I've written a significant amount of background into the plan- don't worry, it doesn't conflict with anything- and it's all included in part three.

    This would mean a lot for the story of New Eden; we haven't had any sort of progression for the Jovians for years at this point- and though it feels like most of CCP is turning from the backstory progression to a more 'emergent gameplay' theme, where only capsuleers create content, I can't help but feel that it would be wasteful, if not disrespectful to some of the game's original ideas, to turn away from this completely.

    Please take the time to look through and consider this: the Jovians have been put on the back burner for a long time, and I feel that something like this could help to breathe new life into them.

    Thank you for reading- especially you CCP'ers- I wonder how this will turn out Smile

    EDIT: I had to add the links as their URLs- for some reason, they wouldn't work with the normal integration the forums use.

    EDIT 2:Some people have pointed out that the 'lore' section isn't as immediately noticeable as I would like it to be, so here it is:

    I posted it to the Fiction sub yesterday- but if you like that I recommend that you comment on it in this post- thanks for all the attention, everyone!Smile

    Any proposal that adds more PvE content will always get a +1 from me, especially when it pertains to Agents and Missions..

    CCP definitely needs to look into this.

    I like the addition of new stories and context to eve universe, and I +1 this for all the effort you've put in. But many people feel strongly about Jovians, because some see it as a good thing there is a part of this 'mystical' faction in New Eden which is, and will always be out of reach for the capsulers. I'm sitting on the fence on this one, as I do like the proposition of new stories and pve contents but I'm not sure if it's a good idea to make it Jove based, even only for the sake of keeping Jovians a mystical entity they are now.

    I too, worry about how closely tied the jove are in this. I would strongly support a moderate re-write to change it to the jovian founded, and still mysterious SoCT.

    @Pookoko

    Believe me, I know what you're saying- the Jovians are what got me interested in eve to begin with, and I've always loved the mystery behind them. That's why I've made sure this idea doesn't get rid of that; although it does involve the Jovians, this plan doesn't directly reveal anything over-the-top or tell us what the directorate is currently doing- we don't go into their space or anything like that, but they, for some reason (a reason we don't know), decide to establish limited contact with us capsuleers (not the empires) and bring those who are completely loyal to them a little closer.

    I love the Jovians as the mysterious 'fifth point of the star'- but the thing is, if they aren't mentioned at all, anywhere, it's more like they're being forgotten than like they're hiding something from us- we haven't heard head nor tail of them for over 5 years now. I would never want them to just disappear entirely- and I doubt anyone you or anyone else would either Smile

    @James

    Mostly the same thing I said above- and as for the SoCT, I love them, but it his is a part where I actually do feel pretty strongly that the Jovians are the best option: the SoCT isn't a Jovian faction as it stands today- it has many secretive programs of their own, but they are a completely separate entity from the Jovian Directorate. The idea of the implant in the first place is that the Galileo project conceived it for the specific purpose of removing the threat of the Jovian disease- and if you read the 'narrative' section in part three, it wouldn't make sense for the SoCT to have started this; the Jovians gave the empires a specific tool in YC27, one we all use today, and that tool is what allowed them to create the JD-67- I built the plan around that- and changing the entire plan just to accommodate the sentiment that the Jovians should stay hidden completely seems like quite a waste. There's so much more that can be done with them without removing the mystery Smile

    I really recommend you read the narrative in part three- and thank you very much for the feedback, everyone Smile

    You got my attention at Jove. +1

    And the proposal details look good to me.

    I like all this except for the becoming Jove part of it, seems a bit much. I'd be much more comfortable with it being just some light genetic tampering.

    It would also be nice if under certain circumstances you got an offer to repeat the arc (on a suitably rare basis) if only to try and stop every Jove frigate in existence being a ship spinning station trophy.

    +1 from me though, overall a good proposal well presented.

    Love it, though becoming half-Jove at the end of it seems like a huge leap. If the Jove have the research, they must experimen . We capsuleers should be that experiment with the implan . Maybe just seeing how splicing human and Jove DNA together will really turn out.

    Also, would the agents move around, especially the arc agent? Otherwise it'll all end up on eve-survival and all of the mystery would be gone.

    +1 for sure, thoug .

    Needless to say I have been waiting for this since 2003! Besides a Jove story line and race were promised in the original box if my memory doesn't betray me :) We really need this as part of the end game

    @Jandor:

    I see what you mean; having the pilots who use the JD-67 become Jovian completely would be too far of a leap. Instead, this makes the pilots change only partially- they become a synthesis of human and Jovian DNA, a new breed of human life. They never become completely Jovian: One, that would ruin a lot of the mystery and Two, they'd all get the Jovian Disease Sad

    And as for the ship, I may be adding another supplementary section to this, regarding the level five agents the Directorate already hasSmile

    @Commander:

    As it is, the Jovians have been testing on us and using us for close to a century- any kinks they wished to work out could have been solved by now- but I like that idea anyhow- it sounds just like the Jovians to disguise the implant as a reward while it's actually an experiment [:p And having the Epic arc agent move around would be a really good idea- people would have to find him to reach him that way- and the less overexposed he is, the better! (although requiring 7.0 faction standings will already be a big hurdle for anyone who wants to get the JD-67)

    And as a fun tidbit: I named it 'Galileo' after the astronomer, Galileo Galilei, because he can be seen as the link between earth (humans) and Jupiter (Jovians) Blink

    Amendment:

    It's come to my attention that the 'lore' pieces I wrote into the third document are not as easily noticed as I had thought they would be (or at least a few people have said so). Here's a link to the lore itself, which I posted in the Fiction sub yesterday:

    https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=379050&find=unread

    There's a not-so-subtle link to the history of a very important piece of equipment all of us use in it: Any of you who like the lore as much as I do will notice Smile

    CCP, you created the Joves, use 'em :]

    This proposal is well thought out, in line with Eve, and strong. I can only hope it goes somewhere. Very well done, Uriel.
