With the Forum changes inbound, I hope that EVE Forums Gold will continue to work, as it appears like the quality of life forum you provide will not get implemented by CCP. I wouldn't even consider to use the forums without EVE Forums Gold.

+1

As I slipped my finger slowly inside her hole, I could immediately feel it getting wetter and wetter.

I took my finger back out and within seconds she was going down on me.

"I really need a new boat," I thought to myself.

Hey folks!

I suppose I should probably have announced so, but I have recently taken a break from Eve. I'm back around now, and definitely looking to continue supporting EFG. Sorry about the absence, and I hope it didn't cause too much inconvenience. Look below for a couple of "news update" on the current state of EFG and its future.

EFG, Greasemonkey, and Firefox Support

Some of you may have noticed problems running EFG on Firefox using Greasemonkey. I can sum the situation up in two words: This sucks.

Apparently, in order to make extensions safer, the Mozilla development folks have decided to change the ways in which extensions interact with the page being viewed in Firefox. This in turn affects Greasemonkey and any scripts that run on top of it.

Eve Forums Gold accesses the page's jQuery, and uses it for reading, writing, and triggering callbacks on various actions (like clicking buttons). jQuery assumes it is not running inside an extension, and is not built to adhere to the new security requirements implemented by Firefox/Greasemonkey. As such, it is completely broken, rendering EFG completely broken as well in Greasemonkey, until I can convert it to stop using jQuery (possibly entirely).

In other, less techy words, EFG is no longer compatible with Greasemonkey, and by extension Firefox, for the near future. It sucks and I can't do anything about it right now. Sorry.

New EFG Hosting Location

Hosting on Dropbox was causing interesting issues with installing/updating the extension, so I got a rudimentary host from which to distribute EFG. It can be found here. Putting this up was a more involved process involving actually changing the way I manage version control, which is a positive change overall.

I will update the OP with this new information as soon as I finish posting news updates.

Forum Changes and the Future

There have been (gasp) changes announced to the way the forum works. I'm the last person who would complain about the forums getting less bad, but this has serious implications for EFG support. The announced changes look like they involve major restructuring of the way pages are built, with a possible significant change in Javascript interactiveness underpinning too.

What does this mean? When these changes arrive, EFG will in all likelyhood break horribly.

What does this mean for the future? The combination of CCP starting work on the forum again and the Firefox problems detailed in above posts demands a lot of involved changes to the code. It may be that a complete rewrite is in the works. Whether that happens or not, expect instability and downtime. I can't do anything about that, unfortunately.

userscripts.org doesn't quite provide the version control and automation I'd like. It also looks down right now.

Github would be optimal, but unfortunately due to some carelessness on my part, the git history of the repository contains my real name, which I would like to remain private. It's the same reason I haven't registered a domain for this particular server.

The new forums are up at https://forums.testeveonline.com/. As EFG is currently written, it won't apply to them at all (as it's a different domain name). However, if you edit the script and add the following two lines in the header, you can make it apply to them:

I'm looking at the interaction of EFG and the new forums and it looks more and more likely that this is indeed the appropriate time for a from-scratch rewrite of EFG. Let me know if you all have any thoughts on the matter.

    1. Click this button: http://i.imgur.com/vayLKwb.png
    2. Click "Dashboard": http://i.imgur.com/aK52RJL.png
    3. Click the EFG version you're using (there should really only be one installed): http://i.imgur.com/Ob9nBP3.png
    4. Add these two lines in: http://i.imgur.com/c3J9uh5.png
    5. Ctrl+S to save
    6. Go visit http://forums.testeveonline.com. EFG should now be active there.

If you would like to review my code, that is incidentally also how you do that.

As is, it looks like almost all EFG features got broken by the new forums. I'm keeping a tally and it's not making me very happy Sad.

    He's welcome!

Okay, I completed my inspection of what is/isn't working on the new forums.

    • EFG Logo: broken
    • Post prospector: broken
    • User tagging: broken
    • "Last read" link (on the post): working
    • "Last read" link (in the notification menu): broken, but now redundant since the forum does it itself
    • Skipping external link warnings: broken
    • Canned posts: broken
    • Hide locked threads: broken
    • No-Nom: brokenSad
    • Author box link tweaking: working
    • Author box DOTLAN/ZKB links: working
    • Media preview: renders, but bugged

Looks like I got plenty of work ahead.

Forum Enhancer - Just a quick comment on the worry about your real name in the git commits there are tools out there to filter and clean up things like that in the history you can use. There is other option which might be easier and since it looks like you probably are going to be doing at least some major changes anyway you might consider it. Just start the project fresh on Github and do a little copy and pasting of any files you want to keep out of the old git. Might be a bit of work but it would be a one time action and truthfully you are probably the only one that might want to use anything but your current release as it is Blink Might even be a good place to start on what might become version 1.0 Big smile

    Update for you all:

It does not look like I will have something to put up immediately as the new forums get deployed. I will do my best to get everyone something ASAP, but unfortunately the forces of the universe have conspired to slow me down. Sorry!
