Posting in a butthurt carebear thread.

I may not go out looking for PvP, but at least i understand the game and have enough of a brain to not rush head long into someone's guns screaming that EVE isn't fair..

btw, LOL at the thought of EVE being "fair". You got a brain, use it.

Yeah how could 200 million be considered multimillion... Roll

OP's original post said dollars not isk.

you know, most of the time I enjoy flame wars, but this just devalues general discussion. He might be a miner that hasn't quite figured it out yet, and you might be some diehard suicide ganker with a shallow sense of pride for flaming/smack talking the forums to maintain your massive E-peens. But we're all a part of the same community here and we all question game mechanics and discuss it, hopefully with constructive criticism and some self-control. Unfortunately you're driving away new and returning players from the game and turning these threads into hateful garbage.

Just to be clear I'm not a baby about getting blown up. It keeps the game exciting.

If I get caught with my pants down and blown up then hey, more power to the guy, I hope he enjoys my stuff.

But this is just flat out griefing. This isn't piracy, or playing a bad guy.

Whats the purpose of a security rating then if stuff like this can go on?

You have to get used to Tippia's circular logic. Even when you do, what Tippia says usually doesn't say much, though he/she generates a lot of text.

If your question is: Do the laws in sovereign (empire) space seem a bit like spaghetti draining in a tennis racket. Yes, they are precisely that. Does the "sovereign authority" assert itself in a fashion that makes sense? NO it doesn't. Do some people like it how it is? Of course, and they're usually the ones benefiting from it.

The question isn't "Do YOU understand it correctly?" The question is: Does CCP understand it correctly? I can only assume people specializing in technology didn't bother to visit the other departments in that huge university landscape...like the liberal arts end of the plantation. They, therefore, may be "smart", but they aren't "well-informed" on matters such as these.

However ridiculous and self-contradictory it is, oddly enough not many people associated with the game really understand the principals of crime, punishment and the exercise of sovereignty. All they care about is if they can get away with what they want, or can they sound cool by being fast and loose with...the "rules."

Yeah, to discuss it soon mires you in the same absurdity.

Paradise is like where you are right now, only much, much better.

Still going on about Kestrels are we?

Anyway, you have to differentiate between gankers and people who are just trying to help you. I can guarantee you that all I've ever done is go to high-sec and try to teach miners how to PvP. Unfortunately for them they failed the class Sad

And I would never use a Kestrel when you can do things like this:

Also kudos to the Bureau Of Mining Barges, who showed that they are true EVE players by not even shedding a single tear.

If I go into an ice belt in a barge to mine, I can get ganked repeatedly by someone with a -10 security status?

Someone who is supposed to be insta killed by concord can somehow warp to me and kill me over and over again in practically free ships?
I have no problem whatsoever with being ganked, so long as they take the security hit, and after several times concord instagibs them. Keeps the game fun having to pay attention for stuff like that.

However are you seriously telling me that this game has come to the point where I can lose multimillion isk ships in high sec to someone who has -10 sec rating over and over again?

Really?

CONCORD acts in much the same way the real Police act. In fact they're much more efficient at it. EVERY ship that commits an illegal agressive act in HiSec is destroyed. The Faction police act similarly; every outlaw ship is chased (you can evade the police in RL too). RL Police attempt to catch criminals in RL, but only after they commit the crime. The chances of the police stopping somebody from just coming up to you and killing you are pretty remote (they'd be hard pressed to do so in a Police station, human reaction times being what they are).

The fact that it's a game and CCP wants its userbase to enjoy themselves precludes punishments like long incarceration, and the lore precludes the death penalty.

So killing the suicide ship is the settled punishment.

Vernn, you seem to be hung up on the Kestrel part. Any ship in Eve can do pretty much anything. Even a mining barge can become a mediocre PvP ships. (Neuts in highs, scram, drones) Battle badgers (caldari indy ships) are used quite regularly now in lolfleets and camps.

Using EE terms, the low cost of a Kestrel can be equated by the static charge of a carpet. The high cost of a mining barge can be equated to a printed circuit board (RAM, video card, micro-controller). If you provide a path for the static charge to move from the carpet to the PCB, you have a very expensive wreck from something that cost nothing.

By mining in the same spot, you provided a path for the gankers to create a wreck. Griefing, as you define it, is allowed in Eve. In fact, it is encouraged by the devs. Very public events like the Goon's incursion on Blue Ice and Hulkageddon solidify that. If CCP wanted to stem the tide of ganking, they could by changing the mechanics. However the mechanics have remained the same from Jihadswarm (kartoon) to Hulkageddon I - V to Goon's Gallente Incursion.

Ganking miners and haulers for both profit and "lolz" is not going to go away anytime soon (never). As long as people can do whatever they want, wherever they want, miners will be ganked.

If I were you, I'd change professions. Mining is one of the lowest profit professions in game. I'm not saying go to 0.0 or lowsec... Just do something different. if you must mine, then move to another region or protect yourself by staying aligned and warping out as soon as anyone lands near you.

Also, learn to use the d-scan. Any ships that do not belong in belts (Kestrels, brutix, etc), dock up and wait till they leave. You have given them the power, time for you to take it back by denying them kills.
