Cost of Multiple Character training

I'm aware that I can purchase a plex for additional skill queues to be open on the same account and that should remain. But this is costly, and works out more expensive for access to an account I can't play concurrently. It's cheaper to get a new account.

Normal subscriptions cost $15/month (less in bulk) and unlock one skill queue. I dual box, so that's $30/month. Now if I want to open the remaining 4 inactive skill queues that's an extra 19.95 x 4 = $79.80. A grand total of $109.80/month. I'm not going to pay that.

If I just got 6 accounts, that would be $90 per month plus I'd get a heap of rewards from the buddy program. And given enough monitors I could play them all at the same time.

Right now my other account characters for my 2 subscriptions remain inactive because it doesn't make sense to plex them. But I'd like to play them. I'd like to train them up to do different things, so when I get bored of one character, I could log into my alt for a bit and play that. Maybe I'd dual box 2 alts and send them into WH space just to mess with the locals, who knows.

I'd like to have the option to pay $25/month and open up all 3 skill queues. I'd happily pay $50/month to be able to dual box my 2 accounts and be able to train all 3 characters in each. I think others would take advantage of this as it would allow them to try other gameplay elements of EVE.

While we are wishing for things that are not going to happen, can I have a pony?

Actually, forget the pony. I have a lawn small enough to cut with scissors and all my houseplants are fake, nothing for it to eat.

TLDR: CCP has no incentive to permit 3 char training (50$/month under current model) to 25&/month just because you want to get two extra characters training for 10$.

Why would they do this?

Subscription retention. Give people fun and variety and they'll stay subscribed. The other carrot is that I now pay $30/month, but I would pay $50. There is no cost here to CCP, this is simply missed opportunity. The question is the scale of this missed opportunity.

P.S. you don't need a TLDR if you only have 3 sentences.

Your dual and triple training, in it's design isn't meant to be trained all the time because you can only be logged into the 1 out of the 3 character. The good side of this design however is that when you do decide to stop paying for the other 2 characters, you can still get on those characters and utilize them. If you choose to pay for 2 additional accounts, as soon as you stop paying for them, you lose them.

Lowering the average to make you look better since 2012.

I don't see this working. Currently, your opening all three skill queues nets CCP $40/month. Your idea loses them $15/month. There is something to be said for subscription retention/increase subscribers to MCT but will it be worth almost half the profit?

Isn't it $55 total? 15 for the account/1st char, 20 for 2nd/third each.
The only purpose of 2nd character (imo) is to make alts that you don't use at the same time as your main. Like PI alts, incursion alts, ??? alts.

The idea is economically sound.
+1

It is better to have 100 sales of a product with no manufacturing cost at a third of the price, than just one sale at full price.

So lower headline cost equals a large increase in income for CCP. And the customer also benefits.

But some people only focus on the headline figure, and are incapable of seeing beyond that.Roll

Dual character training is only a good idea for alts that need 3 months or less of training. Anything more than that and it is more cost effective to create a new account.

If you don't follow the rules, neither will I.

Dual/triple training is a niche product and doesn't remove other options. Rather it gives the option of training for short periods and is actually cheaper short term.

Your other options are to sub for longer, therefore making the sub cheaper per month.

You already have choices, pick one.

Destination SkillQueue:- It's like assuming the Lions will ignore you in the Savannah, if you're small, fat and look helpless.

Look on the market. Last I saw, the tokens for multiple character training were cheaper than PLEX anyway.

There'll be a break even where it;s best to pay seperately then transfer them.

Make enough ISK to buy the dual character training?

I wouldn't support this change, it would just increase the grow-an-alt-to-sell which would drop the character prices and in IMO degrade the value of PvP in EVE.

That is a bit of a pie in the sky excuse. This persons talking about long term training.

The sale option is valid. Pay less and unlock queue's or farm more and pay ccp nothing extra to do the same.

It makes sense

I like the idea of a diminishing expense for training multiple alts. It would be good for the people already doing it - encourage those who aren't to give it a try - and bring more money to CCP so they can keep making new things. Something like 20/15/12 might work.

I think we see the purpose of dual character training differently.

For me, dual character training is for when you just want a limited number of skills on a character, shop training, and still be able to continue playing with it.

That is the big difference. You can continue playing after you stopped training.

If you only need the character to fly an freighter afk you can do that for 2-3 months of dual training. That costs 2-3 PLEX, thats it. If you put it on a separate account you need to continue paying for it as long as you need to be able to log into it.

So you pay a premium to be able to stop training and still use the character.

I thought the second and third character slots were for traders/PI alts who don't need active training queues.

You actually want to actively train those slots? Wat?

Pretty much this. I use them to train PI alts, scouting alts, cyno alts. Anything that doesn't take a long time to train. Occasionally I'll run one for six months or so if I'm training a freighter alt and don't want the hassle of creating a new account just to move the character to an alt spot later.

If you're using them to train characters constantly, you're wasting your money since, as has been pointed out already, you can do it cheaper with another account, and get more utility from it.
