When is it worth it to move to null?

I am currently a high-sec industrialist, making about 1b a month through manufacturing (but not actually getting the money. Stupid market orders.). Anyway, I was wondering, when is it more profitable to produce in null than in high-sec, based entirely on the system index? The index of the system I currently do industry in is about 0.3(or is it 0.03?).

I am in a null sec corp but I personally make everything I make in high sec. You will get a lower cost index but unless you have everything available to you locally you will need to cater for JF costs which would probably outstrip any gains you make.

Any time when you feel ready :)

For industrialists 0.0 is probably better place to live, if you do follow basic rules of course. You can get nearly unlimited ore, have better refining (54% on pos, or even 60% on a proper station). Also the system indexes are lower, but you will always have to calculate the extra cost of moving stuff if you can't sell locally.

My suggestions for you if you are going to nullsec:
-Learn the life style (intel, travelling alone, rules for logistic runs)
-Join an alliance/corp where you feel happy and they accept industrialists (mentally).
-Always remember that you may have to pvp to defend your own place, or others.

Have fun, fly safe!

I would wait and see how the changes to jump range and jump fatigue play out in null-sec once, or if, they are introduced by CCP.
There are very mixed messages about those changes atm with some saying it's a very bad idea and others such as Red Frog Freight saying they have no problems with it and predict extra business resulting from it.

Regarding ore and minerals in null-sec they is still currently plenty of whinging on that issue. I expect some of those would have something to say about the 'unlimited minerals/ore' comment above me. Smile

Lowsec might work better for you. No sov or bubbles to contend with, you can get near-zero cost indexes, and paying frog/pushx to handle the shipping risk is pretty cheap.

I'm in null ands yeah, no bubbles and no sov fees are much more attractive. Null industry is mainly capital production in my experience.

Here's what I do:

Relics/Ratting: Null
Mining: Null
Research BPs: Null
PI: Low Sec
Manufacture: High

But as to whether it's worth it or not, it depends on how you play. Got lots of alts? Got lots of time? Got a good null spot to sit in? Have to pay rent (spit)? Researching capital BPOs? There are many things to consider.

Ok, so I found a good place near lowsec to build in, but I now have a related question. When is it worth it to have a pos at the different sizes?

When you need more hp or more cpu/pg, which usually is only when you need guns, hardeners, ewar etc
